Golden Beach Cottages in Trincomalee

I booked Golden Beach Cottages for my 70-year-old mother, 42-year-old sister, and 15-year-old niece for their “Ladies in Lanka” all-girls trip.

The property is newly opened, located right on the beachfront, and is still not fully functional in terms of having an on-site restaurant. Their breakfast orders were taken the night before, freshly cooked to order, and served near the reception area. Although the service was good and courteous, the absence of an on-site restaurant sometimes caused delays in food delivery.

The Family Room had a charming wooden cottage-style design and featured excellent air-conditioning, which is quite rare in many oceanfront accommodations. The only drawback with the room was that, being on the ground floor, they experienced footstep and movement noises from the floor above during the daytime and busier hours. The noise subsided at night. Perhaps the property could consider better soundproofing for the upper floors to improve the comfort of guests staying on the ground floor.

The view from the cottage was excellent and offered beautiful sunrise views each morning. My family especially enjoyed walking along the clean beach and admiring the sea, which remained mostly calm throughout their visit.

The property is also conveniently located about 700 metres away, roughly a 5-minute walk, from M&M Snorkeling Tours, which arranged a dolphin and whale sighting excursion for them.
The hotel is approximately a 10-minute drive from the main town. Overall, my family enjoyed their stay at Golden Beach Cottages.

Golden Beach Cottages is more than just a hotel—it’s a place where you can truly slow down, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the ocean. Waking up every morning with the sound of the waves and an incredible beachfront view was simply unforgettable.

The atmosphere here is something special. It’s peaceful, calm, and exactly what I was looking for. If you want to escape the noise of everyday life and recharge your soul, this is the perfect place.

I would also like to thank the wonderful people working at the nearby bar. They are always smiling, incredibly friendly, and happy to help you choose food or drinks. Their kindness and genuine hospitality made every visit a pleasure.

The hotel staff deserve my deepest appreciation. They constantly check if you need anything, are always ready to help, offer advice, and make sure you feel comfortable. They don’t just do their jobs—they truly care about their guests, and you can feel it every single day.

Finally, I have a message for the management: you have an amazing team. These people work incredibly hard and create the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes this place so special. I sincerely hope they are rewarded with the salaries they truly deserve.

We had a fantastic stay at Golden Beach Cottages as a big group. The location is perfect just steps away from the sea and with lovely sun loungers looking at the gorgeous view. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Comfortable, clean rooms with air conditioning and very spacious. Would highly recommend!!

Spent my solo trip here in Trinco - I loved my stay, i felt so welcome, taken care of by all staff and the manager. Booked a double room instead of single by accident and manager proposed a refund on spot (you rarely ever see such courtesy).

Always checked in on me every morning and night if I needed anything.

Such a warm place , warm employees, and even concern for everyone - if i was gone for a while they'd ask if i was ok when i was back.

Great location on the beach! Idyllic spot to watch the sun rise, early morning fisherman get the days’ catch and generally relax. Within a short walk of numerous restaurants, bars and local shops. Friendly staff and a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast - make sure you specify a Sri Lankan breakfast!

We started our 3 week Sri Lanka holiday in Columbo at a snazzy hotel for 3 nights. Then off to Jaffna for 4 nights at another snazzy hotel. Both were great. Then we made our way to Trincomalee for 5 days at the beech. We opted for the more modest, rough and ready (and basic) Golden Beech Cottages because of the location ie right on the beech. I have to say that this has been the best part of the holiday thus far. The owner, Priya is really friendly and accommodating. The rooms whilst being basic beech huts were clean and air conditioned. The beds were comfortable. We did not try and access wifi so this was not an issue for us but I understand wifi was accessible. Breakfast was not included as there was no restaurant at the time of our booking but the owner opened an on site restaurant on the day we left. The beech was fantastic- very clean. The sea was warm and calm. Very close to the accommodation was a great scuba diving centre with very good staff. Also whale watching and dolphin watching available right off the beech. The restaurants along the beech are very good but come at a premium. We ate mostly away from the beech. The bar on the beech called ‘Your Choice’ served great cocktails, in particular an amazing Pina Colada. It also served a good barista coffee. Lastly the staff at all of the above were friendly and professional. One final word. At all times we have felt very safe in all respects. I imagine that there must be some level of crime as there is everywhere - but we have seen nothing whatsoever that appeared to be any sort of issue. All in all the Golden Beech Cottages provided brilliant value for money and has so far been the best part of our stay. We would love to return one day.

The location is fantastic, as previously mentioned and rooms have terraces, which are a great place to sit and relax with a cold beer. We arranged a Tuk-Tuk tour with Kajan from the Cottages and he showed us around the area, which was really interesting to get off the beach and see the local life and culture in Trincomalee. Lots of options for snorkeling/diving/dolphin watching available. The beach is clean and staff are helpful with everything you need. Choice of restaurants within a short walk. The restaurant attached to the hotel is convenient but there are better options off the beach (Rice & Curry was a winner every time). The staff are very helpful and the area feels very safe. We really enjoyed our stay at Golden Beach Cottages and would go back in heart beat.

Stayed 3 nights at this brilliant place, right on the golden beach at Trincomallee. We stepped straight from our bungalow onto the sands and had the best view over the sparkling water. What a treat! The beach bar/restaurant was right there, serving tasty brekkie, snacks and drinks all day and dinner in the evening. You could dine in the beach by candlelight. While not gourmet, the food was good and tasty and the staff were fun and friendly. The room was large, the bed was huge and comfortable and the ensuite, while basic, had hot water and a good shower. It was interesting to watch the local fishermen casting out their huge circular net, then dragging it ashore later in a well practised, very rhythmical routine. There are also more bars and restaurants along the beach should you want variation. Great choice for a few days relaxation.

Fantastic location with a view (rooms 1 and 2). 5 types of breakfast (from the list). Restaurant. Close to other restaurants - 7 minutes on foot. Daily cleaning (outside). Next to the diving center. A good place to relax and explore Trincomalee (15 minutes by tuk tuk to the city center). Uber won't pick up from there :) Try to get to the main road and take a tuk tuk.

This is the best place in Trinco. Nice to stay here by yourself or with a family. When you are sitting in front of your room you can see the ocean. Everybody is very friendly. Food is very very good and you get all what you want at any time. I love this place. That’s why I come again and again.
