Great hotel. Amazing views. Right next to the little T-bar skilift and amazing Nordic center for cross-country skiing in winter. Always a warm welcome. Comfortable, clean, well-appointed quiet rooms. I love this place and will return despite two complaints: Some of the staff gather outside the backside/riverside/northside of the hotel after work at night, talking, laughing and smoking, the smoke and noise rising (I could detect it in my room; they woke me up). This lasted 15, maybe 20 minutes, every night I was there. Not a huge deal but interfered with the peace and quiet. Also, while the service and staff are excellent and personable, the food is a bit precious. Portions were small and most of the menu is fussy, lots of foams and such. That's fun and interesting, but as some of my local friends said (and I agreed) there needs to be a bit more familiar, traditional and hardy dishes on the menu, like röstis, and veal sausages, truite meuniere and au bleu, schnitzels, and pastas. I realize that can be boring for the chef but customers come to the Berner Oberland for, well, the tastes of the Berner Oberland. But, don't get me wrong, I will be back.

We had a completely perfect stay at the Hotel Alpenland. The staff were exceptional - friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was great. The location is lovely and ski hire was very easy. Rooms are comfortable and very quiet. We had nothing negative to say at all!

A super hotel, friendly helpful staff. Beautiful spacious room and ours had a stunning view of the nearby mountains. The restaurant served excellent meals and you won’t be disappointed with the buffet breakfast. There’s a great restaurant in the village that’s within walking distance if your visit coincides with the hotel restaurant days off, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. The village is a great place to base yourself for walking, there are many options from here. We would certainly recommend the experience and would contemplate coming back.

Outstanding stay: beautiful location; lovely room; great food; helpful & knowledgeable staff who could not have been more helpful. The owner/manager gave us extra tips on the best hiking routes and all the staff showed interest in our plans. Loved the afternoon tea as well! We were there for 3 nights as part of an Inntravel week of hiking around the area. It was a real highlight.

Lovely hotel in scenic surroundings with good walks and good food. There is a bus service from Gstaad which also goes to the Lauenensee.

I had a disappointing—and very expensive—dinner at the Alpenland Hotel in Lauenen last night. Despite using good-quality ingredients, the chef transformed them into overly complicated pretentious dishes that undermined their natural character. Steak tartare was inexplicably paired with curry and pine nuts, while the gazpacho was filtered into an acidic liquid, stripping away the body and richness of the original dish.

The veal cutlets, priced at an eye-watering 280 CHF per kilo, were vastly overpriced and again an unnecessarily elaborate sauce detracted from the natural succulence of the meat instead of showcasing it.

In short: a beautiful terrace setting let down by fussy, overworked cooking. An overly expensive experience I cannot recommend.

Spent a weekend there with the extended family. All loved it. Rooms: totally redone during the corona shutdown. Excellent quality. Bathrooms: big, spacious, shower in the tub (they have sower only as well) Food: very good - with e few corona based short-comings Staff: from the owner all the way down to service personal helpful, friendly, knowledgeably. A great place!

Hotel Alpenland is one of our favorite hotels in the Bernese Oberland. It is peaceful and quiet with a big terrace overlooking the mountains. We just love the staff - they are so authentically friendly, always prepared to help and give advice with a big smile. The rooms are large, clean and very comfortable. The restaurant serves some traditional dishes that are not fancy but very tasty indeed. Even after a late dinner, we can't wait to have breakfast with the large choice of pastries, breads, yoghurts, cheeses and eggs. We go to the Alpenland 2 or 3 times a year. Great hiking in the summer and just step out the back door and you are on some fine cross country ski trails. Only 10 minute drive from Gstaad, we highly recommend this hotel. Comfortable, clean and tidy, friendly staff, a good terrace restaurant. A cool refuge in the midst of Switzerland’s version of the European heat wave. It’s convenient to the Swiss bus system, both from Gstaad (although we walked along the river from Gstaad and were happy we were staying in Lauenen instead) and to Lauenensee (the lake above the the valley fronting the hotel which was filled this time of year with reeds and tall grasses). We’d stay again.
