Hotel Crown in Andermatt

The hotel itself is quite nice, but unfortunately, the service was severely lacking. The staff seemed apathetic towards guests, providing virtually no service. It felt as though they were ski enthusiasts merely working through the summer to save up for the next ski season. Their young age and lack of interest in assisting or serving guests were evident in their conduct and behavior.

The fan/heater not working, window latch broken in bedroom ,only one latch to keep the window closed , floor in toilet dusty, dishes piled up as no tea towel old one found screwed up in cupboard for days, no soap to wash hands with in the toilet (bathroom) , shampoo container empty, yard a mess with rubbish and NO HOT WATER FOR A SHOWER 8.15pm NOT HAPPY

Suite Hotel Crown in Andermatt is such a hotel. We were booked for three nights but left after two. The location in the middle of Andermatt is ideal. The hardware and décor are great. The suites are comfortable. And the underground garage with direct lift-access to the guest room floors very practical. Sadly, the hotel is mismanaged - firstly by having only a skeleton staff. When we arrived for our first breakfast all tables were full of used crockery and utensils (except a small table at the entrance). With only one staff member on duty, the buffet breakfast was not refilled in a timely fashion either. The same member of the staff then must make all the rooms. In the suites there are whether bathrobes nor slippers and basically no bathroom amenities apart from what appeared to be diluted liquid soap. The hotel claims to be “radiation free” and switches off the internet access from 11pm to 5am. As our children live all other the world in different time zones, this does not work for us. Internet access is provided by cable – but who travels with a cable nowadays? Hotel claimed not to have a cable one could borrow and appeared not willing to help with our predicament. Only after an unfriendly exchange of words where we suddenly given a cable. The plastic cards for access to the room have the room number on them – a grave security risks if one loses a card! On the second night the Wi-Fi and Netflix connection to the TV could not be established. The next morning reception promised to send an engineer to fix the problem whilst we are out. Coming back the problem was not solved. The girl at the reception claimed that this is not the responsibility of the hotel and this being a public holiday no qualified person could be found. She clearly does not understand technical matters and blamed the non-working on our Netflix registration. Next she claimed that internet access is the guests responsibility. The receptionist was unfortunately not ready for the job, then went to check other rooms for access when it was clear the problem prevailed across all rooms. She then came back and reiterated that it was not the hotels responsibility to fix this problem. When we requested to speak to the manager it became clear that there is none and the hotel owner runs the hotel remotely – never seen at the hotel. The request to speak to him on the phone was denied. When asked the name of the receptionist – she refused to give her name (hotel does not feature name tags) and even used the expression “ what the f..k. At no stage was the word Apology used, or maybe a fruit platter offered for the inconvenience. Which would habe solved the problem immediately. Only aggressive undiplomatic excuses and blames. Having had enough of such unqualified, rude chatter we decided to check out immediately. Whilst paying the bill the blond receptionist mentioned “ You have 5 minutes to leave the hotel”.

I had lunch today and it was a terrible experience, they didn’t explain properly the menu (written only in German) I’ve ordered a pumpkin soup but unfortunately it had a SOUR taste plus had cumin and other strong spices in it. I completely left the dish and they didn’t ask me for something else, no more to eat or drink or cake. I won’t come back anymore.
