Zanzibar City, Shangani/Forodhani Street, Zanzíbar, Tanzania 🧭 Map
Good breakfast, excellent emplacement and good food
Location is by the sea. Facilities and services are average.
Even the room with no sea view from the balcony (see video) was sold as a sea view room; the check-out time was set before 10 am, which was unheard of; there were a lot of complaints...
Very ok, I will carry your luggage for you throughout the trip
The price/performance ratio is good for an all-inclusive hotel in Zanzibar. The beach outside the hotel is very beautiful. The sunset is super beautiful. I spent three nights happily.
If you like the local style, this hotel is the best among the hotels and is highly recommended. Because it is right by the sea, there will be crows as your companions during the open breakfast. If you are afraid, just sit under the eaves!

Pongwe, 10 Pongwe Road, Pongwe 🧭 Map
This resort in Zanzibar is perfect for honeymooners and relaxing by the pool. It is centrally located for excursions. It has an excellent resturant accessed by a long boardwalk over the changing tides. The staff are very friendly and attentive to your needs
The hotel is very nice but is starting to look a little tired in places. The swimming pool and beach are lovely and it's a very relaxing place to be. The food I'm afraid is not good. My friend and I arrived mid morning and we had left Arusha very early in the morning so we needed coffee and something to eat. We were given a cup of instant coffee, dried bread and a couple of stale croissants....not...
This hotel is for some reason listed as 3*, but it punches way above that and the experience we had was much nearer to 5*. Everything was perfect here. The staff were so attentive, friendly, helpful and charming. The room was large, comfy bed, good bathroom. The cooking was of a very high standard, plentiful and interesting and appealing to all tastes. The cocktails were delicious and very good value...
We have just had a fabulous week at Pongwe Bay Resort. This is more like a wellness retreat than a hotel. The layout is fantastic. Our chalet/villa was situated on the beach within 50m of the magnificent restaurant and pool. The beach area is idyllic with ample palm tree seated shelters. A 300-meter wooden pier leads to 'The Club' a further restaurant/bar within the Indian Ocean. OUR VILLA We were...
We stayed here during our visit to Zanzibar. A beautiful place, great location, a walk to clean, well maintained beach. 5 mins walk to Kongowea Pier restaurant. Hotel rooms were great, cleaned daily, evening curtain drawn, insecticide sprayed, mosquito net drawn. Lovely relaxing porch, a ladder provided to hang swimming suits by the porch, Breakfast was well organised so was lunch and dinner. Pool...
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, which we took on our 1yr anniversary. We were welcomed so well there by the team. They helped arrange EVERYTHING for us. Our arrival was splendid. They welcomed us with this very tasty homemade passion fruit juice. Our first dinner was amazing, the portions were bigger than we'd anticipated. Their lobster pasta? In fact their whole seafood dishes...

The place is clean and great staff however the food at the restaurant is not nice
The hotel is located almost 12 mins from the beach by walking,it has a nice pool surronded by garden. The room is spacious but lacks basic amenities like shower gel or shampoo. The breakfast is horrible, very poor, no varities and not eatable. The owner is a lovely guy though
Well keeped spacious rooms.
Wii-Fi service is unreliable.
Fairly decent hotel rooms were bog with balcony. Aircon and pool onsite. Not far from the beach. Breakfast was ok. Although meals at the hotel seem expensive for the area. $7 for chips yet elsewhere wers charging $3-4 for chips.
Affordable hotel with good breakfast options.Loved the croissants .
Arrived at the hotel to find there was no running water or air conditioning which is understandable given Zanzibars intermittent electricity - particularly given it was new years. Except service was terrible - had to ask several times for water when our room was delayed. Front staff never once smiled or interacted at us, scoffed at our requests for transportation booking. Showers didn’t get hot, poor...

This is Maria, from Spain! I recently stayed at this hotel and it was an absolutely flawless experience from start to finish. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with such warmth and kindness by the guys on the reception (Maxymilian and Shafi). The facilities were perfect, and I particularly appreciated there's no television in the room! It made the stay so much more peaceful and allowed for...
Aluna Paje is very good, good food, beautiful location, very kind staff. We will definitely be back!
This little hotel is a gem in Paje. It's super clean, beautifully decorated, has a breakfast area overlooking the pool, fresh juices in the morning, and very friendly staff. 100% recommended. The only downside is that the Sansibar authorities don't do anything to keep the streets clean; there's dirt everywhere, which detracts a bit from the magic of the place.
Our stay at Aluna was very relaxing and beautiful! from the moment we walked into the reception Khalil was attentive to me and my partner and made us feel very welcome. The pool area is really nice also, we didn’t leave the hotel so much because we enjoyed the relaxation so much. The room was very clean and put together also. The only thing I would say is the bed was very loud and a tad uncomfortable...
The atmosphere was amazing. It was a relaxing experience. Good cleanliness overall. Very cozy rooms. Easy to find my way to the hotel. The staff was very respectful and fun. There was no noise. I got my money's worth. The staff were very helpful in whatever I needed. Check in and check out was okay.
Very beautiful. Very friendly staff. Very nice area, almost central in Paje. Close to many restaurants and shops. Great amenities. Clean rooms.

My husband and I have travelled extensively and stayed in lots of different hotels, but The Sands has to be among the loveliest that we have encountered. Situated right on the edge of a long pristine white beach (with its own private beach) on the turquoise waters of the Indian ocean, the setting could not be more idyllic. The accommodation is extremely spacious (the villa that we stayed in was over...
With a transfer of just over an hour from the airport the location was perfect for us. Overlooking the Indian Ocean the sun rise is beautiful. The bungalows are huge, with large seating area, kitchen, walk in wardrobe, bathroom with in and outside showers. We decided to go half board to cut back on cost which did suit us overall. The rooms are spotless cleaned in the morning generally fresh towels...

for the price charged the stay was considered okay as far as F&B was concerned. Food menu was fixed and basic with no nothing remarkable for both breakfast and dinner. rooms were decent and resort was nice otherwise. staff were also polite but language understanding needs more training.
We have just finished our journey at The Sand and we already have nostalgia, an amazing location, few people, super "pampered" by a truly professional staff, a place for those looking for peace and relaxation, with unique cuisine, immersed in palm trees with a very white beach. The rooms are comfortable and are cleaned twice a day! Highly recommended place, we will definitely be back. Don't miss the...

Stayed in Marafiki Bungalows for 3 nights.
Amazing place, very hood service from all staff +reception, clean and comfy Bungalow, great pool ,bar and tasty breakfast.

A beautiful boutique styled hotel with comfortable bungalows most with ocean views and lovely front balcony's. We stayed for six nights over Christmas and had a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made us feel safe and truly at home. Spent 5 relaxing days at Spice Island over the Christmas holiday. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. There are a lot of lounging spaces around the pool and facing the beach. Food options for lunch and dinner...
Amazing people, the personal are always happy, and helpful and very kind. The room was extremely clean and very comfortable bed. Amazing beach. Good, tasty food. We had a wonderful time! Thank you for everyone 🙂
The hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. The pool is much larger than in other hotels, and the pier was simply unique. Quiet, Clean and Very Spacious.
The property was exactly as described, on the beach, clean, peaceful and with amazing staff. We were greeted by Temayani who looked after us from when we arrived ( early) to getting our room ready as soon as possible and then arranging a generous late check out. Other staff included Shemsha, Grace and Guidion who made the whole vacation beyond amazing. Thank you so much

Had an amazing stay at Hekaya for 3 nights. The rooms, property, service, staff were amazing. The view from the room was the big reason to book this stay, and I was not disappointed at all. This was our second stay at Hekaya this year. Jackline gave us a very warm welcome and took excellent care of us throughout our 17-day stay. Everything about Hekaya Zanzibar is charming. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and big. Thank you Jennifer for such a great job! The views of the Indian Ocean spectacular! Great location right on the beach, good service and friendly staff. Not many rooms so quiet, but has everything you'd need. Food especially is very good, all fresh produce with a different menu each evening, usually featuring the catch of the day. Recommended!
A wonderful beach experience on the east coast of Zanzibar. The villa itself is set in a small but gorgeous garden, beautifully maintained by John, the gardener. Traditional hotel right in centre of town. Great location and charming roof top dining area. Comfortable cool and highly recommended.
The shower could use updating and amenities in the bedrooms (bar soap, face tissues)
It was in line with expectations. The hotel is in a good location, but it is not convenient to drive in. You need to walk a stone road to get in. The room space is a bit cramped. Because of the spacing between old buildings, the windows are basically directly next to the building opposite. I booked late and there were no other room types to choose from. I was mentally prepared in advance. There is...
The hotel is in Stone Town, close to the road outside. The breakfast is good. The restaurant is on the rooftop with a nice view of the sea. The room is clean and sanitary. It is very close to the beach and very convenient. There is also a night market nearby, but it is not recommended as it will cheat tourists. Overall, it is recommended.
Realy LOVE this hotel. Super location, beautiful old building with great views from the rooftop restaurant. comfy big rooms, nice pool, and superfriendly en helpful staff. Would defenitely come back if I have the chance.

I absolutely loved this hotel. The location was perfect, it was in the heart of stone town. Felt very safe, also felt like you were living like a local. The room was very spacious. The food was great. Breakfast had many options & the food from the restaurant was a 10/10. There’s also many things to do in the area such as shop, museums or even restaurants.
The hotel is great, we were treated very well and the rooms are comfortable and well equipped.
Best bed and breakfast we've ever been to.. We had spent our honeymoon there and couldn't have been more happier that we picked Tembo b&b..
Good location - in the center of everything in Stone town. They don’t have water coolers for clients - you have to go to the restaurant to refill.
Also: it seems they bought another building. So they accommodated us in like 200 meters from main facility. Surely it’s kind of inconvenient but still ok.

Very cozy and nice place. Location is perfect and it takes just a few minutes by walk to get to the most wonderful beach. People are very kind and helpful. Rooms are very big which is great! Clean and safe accommodation. Recommend to everyone who wants to experience a nice vacation.
Staff were so lovely and tried to help as best they could. Breakfast was included, and pancakes were a firm hit with the children. The chef seemed to always be annoyed with the staff, not sure why.
Rooms are definitely dated and not the cleanest. We were moved rooms because the AC was broken and there was a bug cemetery in the original room too. Good location not far from Nungwi beach. Good for putting...
Spent a few days last year at the hotel and we loved the experience, it is located at a walking distance to the beach, the food was good. It was a safe place and nicely quite.
We stayed here for more than 2 weeks, the hotel is located near the beach (3min walk) has a beautiful garden and nice pools.
Although Nungwi beach is very crowded you can find your peace in the hotel.
The rooms are very spacious and the bathroom is very neat.
(Gets cleaned everyday)
There’s new staff and they’re all very friendly, always smiling and happy to help.
The breakfast was included and...
Clean and comfortable Room space was adequate Very close to the beach a 3 min walk the beach is beautiful you can book your tours from there , the staff are super friendly and the breakfast buffet is good The staff used to offer a takeaway piece of cake to my child everyday
This hotel is quiet and lovely, with big rooms and kind staff, very close to the beach. The food was delicious, for dinner it's possible to have room service. We had some problems with wifi, but the staff was so kind to solve it immediately. We arrived at 4:30am and at first we were not satissfied with room on the first floor, so we got another room after breakfast. We would love to come back again...

The staff were truly amazing and very helpful! The rooms were extremely clean and paid attention to detail too. I highly recommend. Everything is in a walkable distance and great value for money. There also wasn’t any noise at all and the amenities were all easily accessible.
The hotel is beautiful, clean rooms and hotel stuffs are helpful and friendly Great experience, if you are looking for a nice hotel in stonetown I highly recommend beyt as salaam
I had a wonderful stay at Beyt al Salaam. The service was excellent from the moment I arrived. The staff were warm, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and well prepared. I especially loved the peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful design of the hotel. The location is perfect — close to important attractions and very convenient for visitors...
Charming Stay in the Heart of Stone Town!
We stayed one night at Beyt Al Salaam and loved its central location in Stone Town. Markets, restaurants, and major attractions are all within walking distance. The hotel has an antique charm with traditional interiors and a warm, welcoming staff. A lovely blend of heritage and hospitality.

This review is at least 10 years late, but Google pics me took down memory lane when we visited the hotel's restaurant back in 2015, we preferred to eat here as opposed to the Double Tree Hotel we were staying that was about a few meters away (pity it's now closed) but the food was absolutely phenomenal, I vividly remember the lady chef (hopefully she's still there) served us like absolute royalty...
