WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE WAS CHOOSING THIS HOTEL!!! We were charged 700$ for 2 nights for a service and facilities that were not even 1 star level. There are no fans in the room and there’s never light for the AC’s to work. Nothing in the room works. The breakfast was TERRIBLE. There was literally nothing there and they even charged us for water.

I went to the reception and demanded talking to the manager to explain my concerns. He is saying at the hotel but refused to come forward. I will make sure they shut down soon because they are scamming tourists left right and centre.

TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY.

The hotel is located almost 12 mins from the beach by walking,it has a nice pool surronded by garden. The room is spacious but lacks basic amenities like shower gel or shampoo. The breakfast is horrible, very poor, no varities and not eatable. The owner is a lovely guy though

Fairly decent hotel rooms were bog with balcony. Aircon and pool onsite. Not far from the beach. Breakfast was ok. Although meals at the hotel seem expensive for the area. $7 for chips yet elsewhere wers charging $3-4 for chips.

(if zero or negative were possible, we would choose that)

This was hands down the worst hotel experience we have ever had!!

We booked Malika Nungwi Hotel for 2 nights, expecting a 4-star experience with basic amenities like air conditioning and a decent breakfast. What we experienced was completely the opposite.

The breakfast was extremely poor and nowhere near 4-star standards. There were almost no proper dishes and no suitable food for children. We couldn’t even get scrambled eggs with cheese. Since there was nothing else for our kids, we tried to make chocolate sandwiches, and a staff member actually attempted to take the Nutella away, which was shocking and uncomfortable.

The electricity situation was an absolute disaster! Power was gone for hours, returned briefly around 1:30 am, and then went out again in the morning. There were no fans in the room, and without electricity or air conditioning, the heat was unbearable. Our children couldn’t sleep at all.

The staff showed zero empathy or concern. We waited at the reception for over an hour to speak to the manager or owner, but no one ever came! We were eventually told to stay in our room if we were unhappy, which is an unacceptable response.

What makes this worse is that other guests were facing the same issues. One couple told us they had to find the electrical breaker themselves to restore power in their room as they couldn't even switch on their lights. Another family said their experience was also horrible and that they planned to ask their booking agent to deal with the situation.

This hotel is expensive and marketed as a 4-star property, but it doesn’t even deserve 1 star. The Booking.com reviews and pictures are misleading; the Google reviews were relatively better and gave a better understanding of the real situation, which we unfortunately read after checking in and paying.

We are writing this review so others don’t face what we faced. We strongly do not recommend Malika Nungwi Hotel to anyone!!!

Arrived at the hotel to find there was no running water or air conditioning which is understandable given Zanzibars intermittent electricity - particularly given it was new years. Except service was terrible - had to ask several times for water when our room was delayed. Front staff never once smiled or interacted at us, scoffed at our requests for transportation booking. Showers didn’t get hot, poor flow, and shower head was broken so the water went everywhere. There was hair everywhere in the toilet and the ‘cleaned’ towels had dirty sticky tap over them. We understand new years is the busiest time of the year so things may be different at other times - but given our current experience we wouldn’t book again.

The service offered and the price do not match. It looks nice on the pictures online and it's not that bad on the outside but the room we were given was not clean, had old stains on the wall and the floor tiles. At night there was no water in the toilets so we had to be using buckets.
For the 4 nights we stayed, water and bath tiles was not replaced even after asking for them.

One positive the pool area is nice and they have a nice big pool.

There is no phone in the rooms you have to use watsApp to communicate with reception.
And whatever you do, if you are android user, DO NOT USE THEIR WIFI even if the passwords are per gadget, my phone was hacked.

The restuarant is clean . The food is basic and the first night we arrived, they only had chicken and beef, though after they had a variety.

If you plan on being out all day and just coming to bath and sleep, then that is your place.
