Reviews
Service leads a lot left to be desired, lacks Thai hospitality as several employees are not actually Thai. Front Desk needs to improve on their service levels, the only helpful team member is the lady at the front desk. The male receptionists are indeaquately trained, lacks a service mindset and are just unfriendly.
We booked a deluxe ocean view room, but the room assigned was absolutely not ocean view, instead you look at the beach and restaurants with the views covered up by trees. Avoid Villa 12 especially if you are paying for the deluxe room as it is not at all compared to Villas 14,15,16 of the same category. We had to downgrade a category and were offered some credit to use at the restaurant and spa which was kindly arranged by the female receptionist coordinating with their reservation team.
Property itself along with the rooms are dated, there is trash around the property grounds, a shame as if this property were to be properly managed it could have a lot of potential.
The biggest problem, however, was the terrible service. Staff were rude, dismissive, and unhelpful at every step. When we asked for another room, they made us wait nearly two hours, then tried to charge us extra for a worse room that smelled bad and had a rock-hard mattress. They even told us to “just pay more and stop complaining.” When we asked to speak with a higher manager, they refused and kept repeating that their policy is “no refunds.”
On top of this, the hotel is far away from everything, making it very inconvenient. We ended up leaving the same day without staying overnight, because the conditions and the way we were treated were unacceptable.
We paid a high price for what was supposed to be a honeymoon experience, but instead it was a complete disappointment. The bad service ruined it all. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone jus try to avoid it.
The staff at the reception were extremely friendly and always treated us well. The level of service here is very high. For example, the hotel arranged a shuttle for us both when we arrived in Koh Tao and again when we left for the pier.
Our room was very spacious, with a living room, bedroom, storage area, and a large bathroom. We felt very comfortable during our stay. The hotel also provided many useful amenities—shaving kits, toothbrushes, towels, bathrobes, and more.
Breakfast was included in our stay and served in the hotel’s restaurant. It was very tasty, with a good variety of both local and international food.
The hotel grounds were also a highlight. It has a private beach that is cleaned every morning, and we were offered free yoga sessions. We could also borrow snorkeling equipment (mask, snorkel, fins) whenever we wanted. In addition, the reception recommended a boat and snorkeling tour around the island, which we joined and really enjoyed.
The hotel is built on a hillside, so walking around can sometimes be tiring. We didn’t see this as a big disadvantage, though—it was worth it for the beautiful surroundings. The paths between the cottages are lined with trees and greenery, which makes the atmosphere peaceful and authentic. It’s a good idea to have mosquito repellent handy.
One last thing we’d like to highlight: after the shuttle had already dropped us off at the pier to leave Koh Tao, the driver tracked me down a few minutes later to show me a necklace they had found in our room. It turned out to be mine. Within ten minutes, Vicky from the reception personally arrived at the pier to bring it back to me. This really touched both me and my wife, and showed how much the staff care about their guests.
Overall, our experience was wonderful, and we’d be happy to return to this hotel in the future. Thank you for making our stay in Koh Tao so special!
Note that this resort is nestled into a hill so you do need to be able to walk on uneven surfaces and up steps without railing. Easy for kids but tricky for individuals with significant mobility concerns.
Oceanview cottage had an incredible view and was wonderfully designed:) The resort grounds itself has tons of beautiful green vegetation, bugs as well but they provide free bug spray at rooms and the restaurant.
The snorkeling in the ocean right next to the resort was amazing! The resort also provides free snorkel masks and fins. The visibility was excellent the entire week we visited and we saw a diversity of corals and hundreds of fish. We only took one day snorkel tour around Koh Tao to the popular snorkel spots and it was comparable. It can be accessed directly from the beach but it is a bit far and there is also a snorkel platform in the resort so you can enter the ocean directly closer to the corals.
The amenities although not new tech, are comfortable, clean and nicely secured.
The staff and crew are great. Always there
• Upon arrival, after a long journey involving flights and a ferry, we discovered there was no hot water in the shower. This problem persisted throughout our stay.
• We paid extra for a room with a bathtub, but the hot water supply was insufficient, rendering it unusable. Multiple repair attempts were unsuccessful.
• The air conditioning was not adjustable, leading to discomfort.
• Frequent power outages disrupted our stay.
• The Wi-Fi was weak and often non-functional.
• Breakfast options were very limited, and the coffee was the worst we’ve had in Thailand.
• Snorkeling equipment provided was defective.
• The receptionist was unresponsive to our complaints, and the hotel failed to take responsibility for these issues.
In summary, the high price we paid did not match the subpar experience. The hotel felt like a 3-star establishment with outdated infrastructure. Regrettably, we had to switch to another hotel during our honeymoon and cannot recommend Cabana Hotel; in fact, we advise others to avoid it.
