Description

The Riviera Hotel - Family Only in Port El Kantaoui is a four-star property constructed in 1993 that caters exclusively to families. It offers a range of room types including single, double, triple, and quadruple rooms, many with garden, pool, or sea views. While the hotel maintains basic facilities such as a 24-hour front desk, a restaurant, meeting and banquet facilities, and a lift, guest reviews indicate the rooms are dated and cleanliness standards vary. The hotel is particularly noted for its animation team, praised repeatedly for creating a lively atmosphere and engaging guests, which stands out as one of the strongest features. However, some guests highlight issues with room maintenance, the quality and variety of food, and occasional staff attitude. The hotel is not pet-friendly and requires the main guest to be at least 21 years old. Breakfast is continental and paid separately. Overall, Riviera Hotel suits families looking for a budget-friendly option with direct beach access and entertainment for children, but visitors should have tempered expectations about room condition and food variety.

Location

The hotel is located in Akouda, within the Zone touristique El Kantaoui of Port El Kantaoui, Tunisia. It sits approximately 500 meters from Kantaoui Beach, providing guests with easy access to the sea. The nearest airport, Habib Bourguiba International Airport (MIR), is 21 kilometers away, making transfers relatively straightforward. Nearby amenities include the Cafe «Bristol Plazza», only 145 meters from the hotel, although some reviews mention this venue has mixed feedback. The hotel is close to shops, restaurants, and an amusement park, and a taxi ride can reach the Port area quickly. For cash needs, the hotel advises using the neighboring hotel’s ATM, which sometimes has limited availability and charges fees. This location is convenient for families seeking a beach holiday with local entertainment and dining options within walking distance.

Tips

  • Bring extra cash as the hotel does not accept card payments and the nearby ATM may charge fees and have limited cash.
  • If you want fresh towels, place your used towels on the floor to ensure they get replaced.
  • Tipping hotel staff can improve service quality significantly, especially from the animation and bar teams.

Policies and conditions

  • Child policies: Children can stay in some rooms of this hotel. Additional fees may be charged for children using existing beds. Add the number of children to get a more accurate price.
  • Cribs and Extra Beds: Extra bed and crib policies may vary according to room type. Please refer to the room type details for more information.
  • Breakfast: Continental Additional breakfast fees are not included in the total and need to be paid at the property.
  • Pets: Pets are not allowed
  • Age Requirements: The main guest checking in must be at least 21 years old

This hotel is definitely not a 4*, barely 2* I would say.
Rooms are dated and very filthy- during whole stay the beds covers weren't changed. Always missing a towels in our room. Leak from the bath-hazard risk! Dirty toilet/bathroom, lots of limescale like the place wasn't clean properly for months.

Ants all over the floor, in the hall dead
cockroach!

Food very repetitive each day, for breakfast not much choice, from the fruits only apples or oranges (nothing like on the pictures from the fruits only apples or oranges (nothing like on the picture provided on their website)

Not much choice of alcohol, no cocktails, beers served in the kids plastic cups.
Always run out of glasses or coffee cups- bear in mind we were there in February so I'm not sure how they can cope when is summer time??

Entertainment doesn't exist-slides by the pool closed, arcade areas all „out of order"!

One of the staff VERY RUDE (by the beach) the way he talked to my partner was shocking. My partner looks Tunisian so im guessing he thought he can scream at him and talk in his language.

Only good things was animation team - shark, Sam (person from darts ), otherwise would be completely disaster and whole stay ruined!

Very disappointing as you expect something better from the hotel which has 4 &
Places like Spain or Portugal which they have 3
* are way better with very high standards

Been 1st time to Tunisia and definitely won't be coming back.

Lovely hotel comfortable beds , could do with some more plug sockets though . Breastfeed and lunch where good although dinner was disappointing as a vegetarian all main meals where meat so I could only eat bread rolls and sails , every evening . Good selection of drinks and very clean . The staff are amazing the animation crew especially , Alex and Cocoo made our children’s holiday . The beach is just incredible and felt very safe wot hotel security nearby . Captain jack was on hand to plan our excursions so thank you to him . Shops , restaurants and amusement park all within walking distance . There is no cash point so use the hotel nest door . All in all a great holiday and would definitely return .

Hotel rooms are basic and dated! Food was okay.
The staff are what makes this hotel! The animation team are amazing and create a great atmosphere around the pool! Shout out to Alex, Cuckoo and Rambo!! All the staff are friendly and can’t do enough for you! (Thank you also to Aziz in the pool bar for making sure I didn’t go without a drink!)
I will definitely be back!!

Staff at hotel were fantastic. If you are diabetic prepare to buy your own Coke Zero etc, no diet drinks served. Rooms are basic, no kettle, tea or coffee making facilities. I did not enjoy the food, but it’s not to everyone’s taste. Make sure you get a price before you do anything, prices vary quite a lot. Lovely place, would definitely return.

Riviera Hotel Sousse Tunisia, anyway it is a very nice and wonderful hotel with many nice and entertaining facilities for children and adults it has three swimming pools for all categories and water games and a private beach, it also has a nice and large restaurant that includes many services but the food is bad and the services are very poor and there are alcoholic drinks everywhere and this is forbidden for us as Muslims.. it has a parking lot the reception is somewhat acceptable and there is a difference in treatment compared to foreigners and this is not fair.. clean rooms but a shortage of double beds and this is also a shortcoming on the part of the hotel please look into the matter.. we thank everyone who treated us kindly..

Honest review
I was worried about staying here after some of the reviews, but we had a nice stay.
Honestly, you get what you pay for and for the British summer holidays we paid a low price (under 2k for 3 person all inclusive). Great for kids orientated, family holiday.
Hotel rooms were cleaned everyday with a fresh bottle of water everyday, lots of reviews said they don't replace towels, but if we left our dirty towels on floor they replaced them. They don't replace the ones still hanging up. Beds were clean and comfortable. We had no bugs but we stayed on top floor (room 474). Balcony needed TLC and could be very dangerous for young children.
Staff at the Riviera hotel were amazing, we were advised by Easy Jet rep that tipping is normal in Tunisia so we did and we got fantastic service for it. The poolside bar staff, the life guards, cleaning staff and restaurant staff are all fantastic. They deserve the tips, we were told they only make around £150 a month and they work so hard. Get some extra dinars for tips and receive a luxury service. Simple.
Animation also work very hard to keep everyone entertained, but they can be a bit obnoxious and rude if you don't take part, probably due to their young age.
Food was ok, but repetitive and sometimes the restaurant was a bit overwhelming. No problems if you are vegetarian, always found something to eat.
Drinks ok, beer, wine and brandy was nice. Not sure about watered down as suggested in other reviews, they tasted very strong.
Pool area, fab and lots of fun, slides were great.
Location ok for a beach holiday, right by beach and smaller souvenir shops, can get a taxi to the Port and other places for a low price. Be careful of the jellyfish we all got stung, some worse than others.
Excursions booked through Captain Jack were good especially pirate boat, amazing day out.
My advice, exchange plenty of cash BEFORE you get to the hotel, hotel does not take card anywhere and you need to pay a tourist tax when you arrive. Hotel Mourhada (5 min walk) has a cash machine but it charges and doesn't always have cash in it.
I wish I'd exchanged more at airport, it is a very cash orientated country.
I would love to return and explore more of Tunisia in the cooler months, I probably wouldn't return to Hotel Riviera more due to the location than the actual hotel. I'm sure there is better in Tunisia, but had a lovely holiday so not complaining.

The hotel is excellent and very clean. The food is also amazing. However, there is one problem: the waitstaff. If you don't give them tips, they won't serve you politely and often have an angry expression with no smile. On a positive note, the animation is good as well.

If you want to eat the same food every day, to sleep in rooms from the '90s, to have nowhere to walk (because you're between Sousse and Port El Kantaoui), to beg them to fix air-conditioning because it's from the beginning of the twentieth century, to rush after them to bring you towels and toilet rolls... then this is the right hotel for you. Nothing is like in the pictures, except for the hotel hall and the reception, because the pictures are probably from the opening of the hotel (and the hotel turned 31 years old this year). The beach is sandy, but the sand is not getting cleaned, the sea is clean only early in the morning. After that, the waves, seaweed and jellyfish come to you. Biiiiig ones! The only positive experience is the hotel staff who really try to make your stay as good as possible with what they have at their disposal.

Riviera is a cool hotel. It has everything you need. The food is good, especially after a few days when you get used to it. The staff is great, and everyone is friendly. If you tip them, they'll take good care of you. The hotel looks nice, nothing too fancy. The location is good, and there's a great bar/club right in front of the hotel. The Hard Rock club is also just a 10-minute walk away.
Share your experiences, help others make the right choice!
Think about what you would like to know if you were looking for a review about a place to relax. Please describe in detail what you liked and what you didn't. What would you advise to other guests and to the hotel owner. The more fully you tell about the hotel, the easier it will be for other people to make a choice and they will be very grateful to you!
