Description
The Riviera Hotel - Family Only in Port El Kantaoui is a four-star property constructed in 1993 that caters exclusively to families. It offers a range of room types including single, double, triple, and quadruple rooms, many with garden, pool, or sea views. While the hotel maintains basic facilities such as a 24-hour front desk, a restaurant, meeting and banquet facilities, and a lift, guest reviews indicate the rooms are dated and cleanliness standards vary. The hotel is particularly noted for its animation team, praised repeatedly for creating a lively atmosphere and engaging guests, which stands out as one of the strongest features. However, some guests highlight issues with room maintenance, the quality and variety of food, and occasional staff attitude. The hotel is not pet-friendly and requires the main guest to be at least 21 years old. Breakfast is continental and paid separately. Overall, Riviera Hotel suits families looking for a budget-friendly option with direct beach access and entertainment for children, but visitors should have tempered expectations about room condition and food variety.
Location
The hotel is located in Akouda, within the Zone touristique El Kantaoui of Port El Kantaoui, Tunisia. Nearby amenities include the Cafe «Bristol Plazza», only 145 meters from the hotel, although some reviews mention this venue has mixed feedback. The hotel is close to shops, restaurants, and an amusement park, and a taxi ride can reach the Port area quickly. This location is convenient for families seeking a beach holiday with local entertainment and dining options within walking distance.

Reviews
Rooms are dated and very filthy- during whole stay the beds covers weren't changed. Always missing a towels in our room. Leak from the bath-hazard risk! Dirty toilet/bathroom, lots of limescale like the place wasn't clean properly for months.
Ants all over the floor, in the hall dead
cockroach!
Food very repetitive each day, for breakfast not much choice, from the fruits only apples or oranges (nothing like on the pictures from the fruits only apples or oranges (nothing like on the picture provided on their website)
Not much choice of alcohol, no cocktails, beers served in the kids plastic cups.
Always run out of glasses or coffee cups- bear in mind we were there in February so I'm not sure how they can cope when is summer time??
Entertainment doesn't exist-slides by the pool closed, arcade areas all „out of order"!
One of the staff VERY RUDE (by the beach) the way he talked to my partner was shocking. My partner looks Tunisian so im guessing he thought he can scream at him and talk in his language.
Only good things was animation team - shark, Sam (person from darts ), otherwise would be completely disaster and whole stay ruined!
Very disappointing as you expect something better from the hotel which has 4 &
Places like Spain or Portugal which they have 3
* are way better with very high standards
Been 1st time to Tunisia and definitely won't be coming back.
The staff are what makes this hotel! The animation team are amazing and create a great atmosphere around the pool! Shout out to Alex, Cuckoo and Rambo!! All the staff are friendly and can’t do enough for you! (Thank you also to Aziz in the pool bar for making sure I didn’t go without a drink!)
I will definitely be back!!
I was worried about staying here after some of the reviews, but we had a nice stay.
Honestly, you get what you pay for and for the British summer holidays we paid a low price (under 2k for 3 person all inclusive). Great for kids orientated, family holiday.
Hotel rooms were cleaned everyday with a fresh bottle of water everyday, lots of reviews said they don't replace towels, but if we left our dirty towels on floor they replaced them. They don't replace the ones still hanging up. Beds were clean and comfortable. We had no bugs but we stayed on top floor (room 474). Balcony needed TLC and could be very dangerous for young children.
Staff at the Riviera hotel were amazing, we were advised by Easy Jet rep that tipping is normal in Tunisia so we did and we got fantastic service for it. The poolside bar staff, the life guards, cleaning staff and restaurant staff are all fantastic. They deserve the tips, we were told they only make around £150 a month and they work so hard. Get some extra dinars for tips and receive a luxury service. Simple.
Animation also work very hard to keep everyone entertained, but they can be a bit obnoxious and rude if you don't take part, probably due to their young age.
Food was ok, but repetitive and sometimes the restaurant was a bit overwhelming. No problems if you are vegetarian, always found something to eat.
Drinks ok, beer, wine and brandy was nice. Not sure about watered down as suggested in other reviews, they tasted very strong.
Pool area, fab and lots of fun, slides were great.
Location ok for a beach holiday, right by beach and smaller souvenir shops, can get a taxi to the Port and other places for a low price. Be careful of the jellyfish we all got stung, some worse than others.
Excursions booked through Captain Jack were good especially pirate boat, amazing day out.
My advice, exchange plenty of cash BEFORE you get to the hotel, hotel does not take card anywhere and you need to pay a tourist tax when you arrive. Hotel Mourhada (5 min walk) has a cash machine but it charges and doesn't always have cash in it.
I wish I'd exchanged more at airport, it is a very cash orientated country.
I would love to return and explore more of Tunisia in the cooler months, I probably wouldn't return to Hotel Riviera more due to the location than the actual hotel. I'm sure there is better in Tunisia, but had a lovely holiday so not complaining.
