DoubleTree by Hilton Raleigh Brownstone University in Raleigh

Location is great. I arrived around 9::30pm, my room was on the top floor #808. Stayed in the room reading messages for about an hour, room wasn’t very brightly lit, from the left side I saw something move. When I looked back, it was a one inch cockroach running across the carpet. Tried to catch it but it was too fast and went under the chair. I called the front desk to let them know and needed a new room, they called me back saying that they had no more deluxe rooms available so I got room #322. So I moved my things to that room, thought the room was good but first the toilet, particles of the previous occupants was left in the toilet. When I flushed it more came up from somewhere. The balcony door did not latch properly. Taking a shower, the lever to move from bath to shower was rusted over and could not be moved so it sprayed from both the shower head and bath faucet. Looking at what I’ve noticed real quick is why I gave them this rating.

I’ve used this hotel multiple times over the years due to proximity to NC State, however I cannot recommend it. Every time I stay here I am left wanting more, especially for price. Wait times have been long every time I’ve checked in, bar is never staffed, no fridge or microwave in rooms, lighting is awful in the rooms, and no counter space in the bathrooms. The accommodations are sparse. I never feel “taken care of” when I stay at this hotel. I’ll be taking my business to aloft in the future. This hotel is not standing up to the competition.

We aren’t familiar with Raleigh so we chose this location based on its pricing. With over $200 a night for a suite, we felt comfortable booking the one night only stay. The room appeared to be clean, but did not feel clean. There were multiple stains in the carpet, furniture so worn the finish was missing, and the sofa sleeper was in such bad shape, you couldn’t even sit on it without leaning over. We almost decided to go to another hotel, but decided against it. And only regretted it later when we woke to take showers and there was still guest hair on the shower walls and in the sink basin. As we were leaving, I double checked the closet before we left and the previous guests dry cleaning trash was still in there, hangers and plastic wrap. Super disappointed as a Lifetime Diamond member.

Bad experience if you’re thinking about having a wedding or party here I do not recommend. My wife & I had our wedding here. We appreciate the price rate they gave us. The experience we had was better off going somewhere else. The manager Derrick is very rude. Hard to keep in touch with him and over the little meetings we agreed all payments should be paid at the end of our reception. During the time for wedding ceremony Derrick locks the door and tells our guest no one is coming in until the rest of the amount is paid. Remind you again we discuss all payment is due at the end of the night not before. Also I felt like because we were two women getting married we were treated with no respect from him . Very unprofessional. The front desk guest were nice only good thing with our experience. Rooms weren’t clean and very dusty looking. Worst experience ever and will not be coming back here again.

My 1 star review is because this hotel has no AC during my visit. The room when I came in was 77 degree in the main area and 76 in the bedroom.

I call the front desk and they say there is no AC and that I need to open my doors to balcony. So now I have my doors open with all the sounds from the environment. I'm on the 8th floor facing the main streets. A lot of chirping birds and motorcycles for my stay. Awesome.

There are a couple of hotel names that I trust and Hilton was one of them. However, this Hilton was not what I'd expect. I paid for a King size room, yet certain amenities like a microwave, fridge, and even a hair dryer weren't in the room. The reason I didn't give one star is because the staff. There were loud people right outside my window, and very quickly, the security there made them vacate the premises. Beds were comfortable and room was clean also.
