Best Western Premier Houston Downtown/Convention Center Hotel in Houston

This place is gross. It was under construction but falling apart at the same time. I stayed on the third floor and it smelled like mildew. There was a bag of garbage outside of one of the rooms when I got there. I saw it every time I went to the elevator and it was still there when I check out 2 days later. The parking was sketchy- its not gated. I found the backdoor propped open with a towel. It was loud and bright in my room. The curtains did not shut all the way. Lastly, there was no hot water. Overall, its weird and terrible and feels like backpacking in a third-world country.

The gym was advertised as open but is under construction which impacted my rehab schedule and energy level for a very important networking event that I paid a lot of money to attend.

Additionally, the entire area around the hotel is under construction (likely for a while) so it's very difficult for Ubers to find the entrance / during the day it was blocked, and it's even difficult to walk to certain nearby areas as streets are closed off.

Lastly, I noticed after coming back the first day that my door hadn't locked. After that when leaving I had to pull the door probably 5-6 times with just the right amount of force to create vibration so the dead bolt went incrementally further and then finally slid into the lock.

It was the 2nd room I had because the first they gave me was right next to the construction, and I didn't have time to keep requesting to move to another room. Definitely was not worth almost $300 per night and I assumed it probably won't be for quite a while, given the construction in the area.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Room smelled like stale cigarettes. The construction outside made it nearly impossible to get any ride share services to pick you up or have any clear path to the convention center. My key deactivated all three nights that I stayed at this hotel. You can imagine what this felt like after a 15 hour day of working only to find out you can’t get into your hotel room THREE NIGHTS IN A ROW. plenty of other great options that are much cheaper nearby. Fully regret spending my money here. 0 out of 5 starts.

The check in process was very smooth and easy with friendly staff but the hallways were messy and smelled like mildew everything about the building is under construction to rickety elevators to landlord special paintjobs in the hallways and especially the rooms the shower had been redone you can tell they hired the cheapest help they could find the shower rod for the curtain was hanging on a thread and funnily enough recieved the landlord special with a nice coat of white paint over the rod and that seemed to be what was keeping the rod on the wall besides that the construction around the site makes it difficult to arrive the pool felt like they were pumping water from the artics on top of that the bathroom door didnt close since hinges werent installed right and the ac would cool somewhat well then kinda cut off the other big issue is due to the construction the back side of the building is very cluterred and covered by shipping containers which did not look plesent as well as the lighting in the parking lot was poor thank fully the breakfast wasnt bad.
