Residence Inn by Marriott Killeen in Killeen

Stayed at two Marriott properties back-to-back in Killeen and had a noticeably different experience that needs to be called out.

At the Residence Inn, my folio included multiple vague charges such as a “State Cost Recovery Fee” and a “Parking Recapture Fee.” The issue is simple: I didn’t even have a car. I was dropped off by Uber, yet the parking-related fee was automatically added anyway. To their credit, the front desk removed it when I pointed it out, but that raises the bigger question: why is it being applied to every guest by default without verification?

What makes this more concerning is that I checked out and walked less than a block to the Fairfield next door. That property charged only standard, clearly labeled taxes. No recovery fees, no parking-related add-ons, nothing unusual.

Comparing the two folios side-by-side makes it clear that these extra charges are not standard, not required, and not consistent across similar hotels in the same exact area. The labeling is also vague enough that most guests likely wouldn’t question it.

I appreciate that the staff corrected the issue when I brought it up, which is why this isn’t a one-star review. However, these kinds of undisclosed or unclear fees make it difficult to trust the final price when booking.

Bottom line: check your folio carefully here. If something looks off, question it. Not all nearby Marriott properties are handling charges the same way.

Staff was wonderful. Hotel itself was dated. Got off elevator in my floor and it smelled like old food. Opened door to room and smelled musty. Carpets in hall and room were dirty. Did not feel

Very disappointed in this hotel. Is it really a Residence Inn? Caulking around the showers, baseboard needs replaced. Paint on interior door had mold or something else on it. Some mold in shower. Dishwasher handle broken and old. Refrigerator noisy. AC loud. Carpet torn. Refrigerator looks like it was in a battle. No need to stay here again.
