Shah Polan Hotel in Tashkent

If you want to experience USSR hostel/dorm - check in. If you want a proper hotel - stay away.
My initial room on the 3rd floor was tiny. To sit at the table, I had to angle the chair, as otherwise it doesn't really fit in front of the bed. Worst of all, on Sunday there was a terrible construction noise from 9 to 6:30 pm with hammers and drilling (clearly audible on the video). After 5 complaints, I was finally moved to a different room, where the construction noise was not audible and it was more spacious. The insulation in the rooms is really bad however- you can hear neighbors coughing, someome talking in the hallway, street noise including at night (the hotel is on a busy 4 lane street, in front of the market). Also, I was woken up by the staff incessantly ringing on the doorbell at 5:40 am (!!!!), as he was looking for some guest he couldn't find. He then did the same for at least 3 neighbouring rooms. There was also terrible sewage smell in the bathroom, and no shelves/countertop for toiletries. The AC unit also makes lots of crackling/squeaking noises. The breakfast was really poor, with very limited choice of non-gluten options - largely the same every day, quality of food was mediocre. The hotel has zero facilities - no restaurant, no ATM, nothing. There are not enough elevators and you have to usually queue to get onto your floor. The location is also pretty dreadful- no decent restaurants or cafe around, no places to walk.

Don't book overseas hotels on Ctrip. You can't find the order at all, and you still complain that there is no way! I confirmed my check-in on Ctrip, but the hotel kept telling me that I didn’t pay and insisted that I pay before leaving! I kept doing it for more than half an hour, and I was still rushing to the airport. Rubbish! I will never book with Ctrip again.

The room is ok, but staff (especially reception representative) is not friendly (never hi & never smile). Also, Wi Fi doesn’t work well, same breakfast menu every day.
