Hotel Wagner in Obertauern

This is definitely NOT a 4-star hotel! It pains me to say, but even 3 stars would be a stretch under a fair re-rating, in my opinion. On the positive side: the location was good; the staff were very friendly and helpful, which does count for a lot; the breakfast buffet was good, not abundant, but sufficient; and the pool area was small, but pleasant. However! Our room smelled of urine, evidently coming from the bathroom vent due to some plumbing problem; this must be an old yet still unresolved problem as several previous reviewers mentioned it. I reported it, but nothing changed. Besides, our room was basic--no mini bar or refrigerator, no coffee machine, no kettle, and no amenities. There were only a few small and un-fluffy towels. The spa was almost comically small, the tiny sauna and the steam room barely fit three people each, and they very quickly have trouble breathing due to lack of oxygen. Besides, there were no towels there other than tiny ones for sitting on. The quiet room nearby was tiny and uninviting. In the evening, there is nobody at the reception; one lonely guy behind the bar must handle both the restaurant and the reception. The restaurant was only open on Fri, Sat, and Sun, and only until 10p, and has just a basic menu with few choices. If you want a drink later, your only choice is a tacky vending machine in the basement. There was no toilet near the ski room. The seating area in the lobby was minimal and uninviting, with no service. We would not stay there again. The star rating of this hotel is in serious need of review!
