Meininger Hotel Wien Downtown Franz in Vienna

My friend and I have stayed in a few Meininger Hotels throughout Europe and have always had a great experience. This hotel was located in a good location, everything was a short walk away. The room was always cleaned and had comfortable bedding and adequate storage space. There's a great lounge space to kill time and rest up in between your day. Our stay was made exceptionally better due to Kristof! He was genuinely the sweetest person we've met on our trip. We were so thankful for the help and tips. It truly created such a positive impact on our day.

I’ve been a loyal guest at Meininger Hotel for over 3 years now, and it never disappoints. The staff are consistently warm and attentive, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location makes exploring Vienna effortless. Whether I’m here for a short stay or longer, it always feels like a home away from home. Highly recommend for anyone looking for quality, consistency, and genuinely great service.

Our stay at the Meininger Hostel in Vienna was our first experience with the Meininger brand and, overall, it was a mixed one.

Check-in on arrival went smoothly, although the receptionist we dealt with came across as quite disengaged and unwelcoming, which left a slightly poor first impression.

We stayed in a four-bed shared room, which was generally comfortable and well laid out. The room included an en-suite bathroom, one bunk bed, and two single beds. Beds are assigned in advance, so you cannot choose your own. Although there were four beds in the room, there were only two lockers available under the bunk beds. These require a personal padlock, but despite having one, we were unable to secure the lockers properly as they still seemed to open too easily.

We raised this issue with reception but were met with little assistance beyond a shrug and a comment along the lines of “what do you want me to do about it.” The only alternative offered was to store our bags in the locked luggage room, which did not feel like a fully satisfactory solution. That said, in practice we made it work by keeping clothes in the lockers and carrying valuables with us, and nothing was taken. I have also seen similar comments from other guests, so it appears to be an ongoing issue.

On a more positive note, the rest of the staff we encountered were excellent, particularly Constantine, who was friendly and very accommodating. The poor interaction with the first receptionist stood out, but fortunately we only dealt with them once during our two-night stay.

Overall, I would consider recommending this hostel if the locker situation is improved. It is also worth noting that the location is somewhat outside the city centre, around a 25–30 minute walk, so it can feel a little removed from the main sights.

Stayed 2 nights, the room was little run down, but nothing that made it unusable. Sheets, towels and surfaces were clean. Interstices and silicon seals could use deep clean, but it wasn't that bad.
Friendly staff, fast check-in and even faster check-out.
It's around 10-15minutes to closest U-bahn. It is not in the "lively" part of city(not much bars/pubs/cafes around), but you can get to the city center really fast.
There is Penny and Spar close by.
I think it is adequate for the price.

We stayed at MEININGER Hotel Wien Downtown Franz for 3 nights, and it was a fantastic experience! The check-in process was quick and smooth, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were clean, well-equipped, and designed for comfort. The beds were cozy, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. The hotel's location is perfect—easily accessible and well-connected to public transport, making it a great base for exploring Vienna. One of the highlights was the breakfast buffet, which offered a diverse and delicious selection to start the day right. Overall, it was an excellent stay, and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting.
