Hotel Tsarevets in Veliko Tarnovo

The place has a distinct feeling of "has been", going on a slow but sure downward trajectory. The room, especially the bathroom, is poorly optimise. Barely working drainage. Breakfast is passable at best. Too much focus on the glitter, not much thinking on actual functionality. The best aspect: it's very close to the fortress and the main streets. All in all, for 1 - 2 days, it will do.

I would not recommend this hotel.

The reviews hype this place up to the heavens - whilst yes, the location is good, that is the only thing it has going for it. The common areas are nice, and the complimentary breakfast is OK, but the rooms and the service is far from what we expected.

We had two different rooms during our stay, both of which had the same problems. Horrible smells, run-down upholstry and furniture, loose electrical recepticles and an non-fuctional AC. Even though they say it works (yes, it makes a sound), it cannot cool the room. All the guests were sleeping with open windows.

They "bribe" the guests with a "Loyal Members Club".. that is why they have so many glowing reviews.. Leave a 5-star review, and show it to the receptionist, and you get one free access to the spa area..

Would not recommend. You will get a lot more for your money elsewhere.

As the hotel is advertised as “spa” I can say the spa is bad. It is very small, for maximum 10 people and when the hotel is booked in full capacity I just can’t see how everyone will fit in that small space. People were just coming in, looking around and going back out because there was no space for more people. The pool has cold water, it is not the cleanest as well. You have to pay extra in order to use the sauna and the steam room and there are only three beds in the relaxing area and one sofa for max 3 people. Overall we expected much more. Also the breakfast was not that good. There were veggies, cheese and some pastries which weren’t the freshest also. The coffee machine was broken and also the shower in our room was really loud and we had to wait for ten minutes for the hot water to come. For the price I guess it is okay, but it is far from luxurious as it is advertised. I didn’t see anything luxurious.It is close to the city center, yes, and it has free parking spaces which is good, can’t deny.

Badly managed and very disappointing. It felt like a Fawlty Towers experience! Breakfast was very basic but edible. Our room was a good size but air conditioning was not properly working, nor was telephone. Shower above bath no screen or.curtsin and floor became wet. No shower mat which made getting out dangerous. It wouldn't actually take too much to put things right but.there must be better places to stay. View from room if you stuck head out of window!
