Dolphin Bay Resort in Koh Rong Island

Just got back from a 3-day stay. Far and away the best location on the island during the rainy season; the other side of the island bears the brunt of the monsoon tradewind fury, even further down this beach there are more wind and waves. But here, the water is absolutely calm, even on days when the ferry from Sihanoukville was cancelled due to rough weather. Check out the pictures. At night, the jungle sounds are amazing -- insects, frogs, birds, monkeys all play their parts. The bungalow is large, comfortable, well-designed and way better-built than the previous place we stayed, with lots of hooks and shelves for your stuff. Everything worked -- doors, lights, fans, toilet, etc. This is not always the case in Cambodia. The restaurant is very good -- we tried virtually every Asian dish on the menu (when in Rome...), and they were uniformly excellent, lots of flavor without being too spicy. Look for the huge gecko in the beams above the dining room, and the local dog that sleeps under one of the tables that they have to shoo away every morning. Best of all was the friendly, helpful staff, all with that trademark Cambodia smile. I've been home only two days and already I want to go back.

Original backpacker place with top service
If you are looking for the unspoiled backpacker place, this is it! Experience island life as it was 20-25 years ago in Thailand. No Ungabunga. Hammock, palm trees and easy living. If you are looking for partying and colors until dawn, then go somewhere else. This family-owned place with small cabins is pure originality. May it stay that way, so that you can also find your roots in the future!

Beach relaxation
The accommodation was at the far end of the beach in a quiet location. A beach taxi was available for you and your luggage. There was a decent food menu available and all staff were pleasant. Overall a pleasant stay with a nice sandy beach and walking distance to several others. Plenty of eating choices along the beach including an excellent barbecue.

We really had a nice stay here! The people where very nice, the atmosphere was good and we loved all the cute animals! Furthermore the bungalow was lovely and really comfortable, especially for what we paid. Overall we had the best experience staying here on this lovely island with these lovely people.
