Our stay at the James Bay Inn was great. The service at checkin and at their restaurant and pub was 2nd to none. Our king bedroom was very roomy and the bathroom as well. It should be noted that their food in their restaurant is excellent together with the friendly service. The menu is varied and the dishes are big. They cater to Seniors with lots of locals showing up for their popular brunch. We are looking forward to our return.

The location is superb, just a few blocks behind the famous BC Legislative Building, within walking distance. The hotel has a long history, old British style, a bit dated, but still okay. Good value for money.

Just got back from 5 glorious days and nights in Victoria staying in the James Bay Inn cottage. From the minute I checked in, I knew I had made such a great choice. With thousands of places to stay in Victoria, this was my first time choosing the James Bay Inn.
Right from check-in, the friendliness of staff and high-quality of service was something that really stood out to me. I had the pleasure of interacting with a couple of front desk staff and staff in the pub and they were all so welcoming.
The cottage was absolutely perfect for our stay. I loved having all of the amenities of a cute little house and the amazing proximity to downtown. We walked everywhere. The beds were super comfortable and the cottage was spotless.
I honestly didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to return again soon. Well done James Bay Inn.

Would stay here again! Great location (15min walk to The Empress), quiet area (I am a light sleeper), comfortable bed and pillows, lovely warm room (we stayed in November, so warmth was good--I hate being cold!), and it was SPOTLESSLY CLEAN. Absolutely spotless. The staff were friendly and professional (Front Desk Staffer, pronounced Had-ee was particularly great) and there are added benefits like tea and coffee in the Reception area each morning. For the price, this place is a gem. Some reviews have said that that the decor is out-dated - but I don't care if there is a 1990's looking blanket so long as I sleep well and it is clean. This place is apparently the 2nd oldest hotel in Victoria and it is a heritage gem. I loved it.

Really nice old school style hotel in a quiet residential area but just a few minutes walk from downtown Victoria, so the location is perfect. It was really neat hearing carriage horses clip-clopping down the street. The staff were friendly and efficient. My room was one of the smaller ones, but I thought it was really roomy and clean. No issues with the TV, wifi or the bathroom. This hotel is also pretty affordable in an expensive city like Victoria. Highly recommended!

Older building, with delightful rustic charm. Friendly and welcoming staff. We stayed here mid October. Free parking on site was available. Our stay was comfortable and fun. The location is excellent, with lots of Victoria places to visit within walking distance. We stayed in the king bed room, the layout was really nice and spacious. Our bed was squeaky, wasn’t bothersome to me but just a heads up. In the morning, they have complimentary coffee/tea available in the lobby for guests.

Our stay at the James Bay Inn was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm, genuine hospitality — the staff here truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and cared for. The customer service was exceptional across the board.

The inn itself is absolutely charming — full of character, history, and thoughtful details. The textures, colors, and classic decor give it a unique personality that you just don’t find in chain hotels. It’s cozy, clean, and full of warmth, both in ambiance and attitude.

Our room was adorable and comfortable, with just the right blend of old-world charm and modern comfort. You can feel the history in the walls, yet everything is so well-maintained and fresh.

We would 100% stay here again and will absolutely recommend it to friends and family visiting Victoria. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. A true gem!

Excellent location, 8-minute walk to Parliament House and 12-minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf. Old building, but facilities have been updated. No elevator, and the bars downstairs can be a bit noisy late at night. Very good value for money.

The hotel has basically no facilities, only a good location. The staff are generally friendly. There is a smell of oil smoke in the room, which should be coming from the restaurant downstairs. Be careful when checking out.

Quaint hotel, with a great location.
Staff greeted us as soon as we walked through the door, we were able to check in early and dump our bags and walk into the city centre which is probably 10 minutes away.
Room was very big with 2 huge comfortable beds, no tea or coffee facilities in the room but you could get some from the reception area.
We decided to eat in the pub downstairs which was lovely, it was packed and there was a game on so everyone was very happy

This is the best price for what you get and really nice food and tea. People that work here are wonderful!

Lovely spot with character, fantastic tea and comforting food. Their earl grey is excellent. They also have gluten free bread and English muffins, which was a nice surprise. I highly recommend this as an authentic alternative to the downtown tourist traps.

My family had breakfast here while in town for the weekend a few weeks ago. We were a little concerned because there was only one other table occupied, but decided to give it a try. The service was great, prompt and friendly and our food was also good. Nothing fancy, but the eggs were cooked perfectly (everyone ordered a different style), we tried both types of scones, raisin and cheese, and they were delicious! Would definitely go back.

The breakfast plate was nothing noteworthy other than the sausages (two) which they called bangers were rock hard. Even the knife could not cut through the hardened shell and the sausage meat was tough as leather, clearly freezer burn had got the better of these bangers that should never have been served to paying customers.
