Reviews
Room was great. Comfy bed. Nice products. Lovely bottle of local sparkling wine to welcome us into the room as a bday surprise.
Service within the hotel could be better.
- welcomed at front desk, asked for our card and ID and then immediately answered the phone and disengaged with us. Left waiting a long time to check in after a long day of travel. No tour or information about the hotel or amenities.
- a long time to be seated for breakfast despite it being quiet. Taken to our table and then had to wait for it to be cleaned. Brought coffee but nothing else to be able to enjoy the coffee. Once finished, plates removed, informed we weren’t wanting anything else and then waited a lifetime to get our bill before we could go on and start our day.
- not many ‘hellos’ or pleasantries from hotel staff when walking the corridors.
- listed as a 5-star hotel but quite often experienced 3-star service.
Spa was excellent. Excellent service and facilities. Definitely worth it. Would return for treatments.
Staff around the pools were pushing for sales re: food and beverages. Often continually returning despite regular explaining we didn’t want anything before our treatments.
My favourite part was the gorgeous mineral pools, hot tubs & saunas. Everything is the perfect temp & pristinely clean. The contrast of the brisk ocean air, cool light rain or mist & the glorious hot soothing water, all buffered with endless warm fluffy towels for transitions was idyllic.
The sauna is pleasantly unusual with a giant plexiglass window & skylight resulting in a view of a lovely rock “island” where I watched exotic (to me) sea birds & a seal. Observed stars at night from the lovely balmy cedar redolent room. From afar we saw otters playing around the rocks the first day.
A gorgeous massive bald eagle soared over the grounds several afternoons.
Our room was gorgeous & comfortable. Nice, well appointed kitchenette let us cook up local delicacies. Large balcony gave us an incredible ocean view & felt like the outdoors was at our fingertips. Management kindly provided a loaner board game, Scrabble, which my son, my local friend & I throughly enjoyed an afternoon of on the opulent but comfy furniture.
This trip was a tad odd as I have a terminal cancer diagnosis so it was rather a “bucket list” trip &, after, by sheer accident, management found out about my death sentence I noted they were extra kind. Nice details like a treat of free oranges to my dear son who’s hurting & struggling with my eventual fate. Kindness’s here & there while I’m sure they always excel at that.
I particularly appreciated excellent recommendations from our main concierge Dillon. Great referrals to the BEST ethical whale watching co & to a sushi place that was crazy outstanding. He even hunted down my odd, out of season, zip lining inquiry & suggested the easiest way to Butchart Gardens.
The Oak Bay Beach Hotel deserves each of its 5 stars & was even a great value with an “off season” & over 3 nights discount deal. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel & have already booked another long-ish stay there in May, health permitting.
Treat yourself, try it especially if you are part otter like I am. I enjoyed the pools a minimum of twice a day & the entire place 100% of the time.
The spa itself is stunning serene, spotless, and thoughtfully designed. But the real showstopper is the oceanfront mineral pools. Relaxing in the warm water while looking out over the endless blue ocean and sky is pure magic. The view alone is worth five stars. It feels peaceful, luxurious, and grounding all at once.
Everything from the ambiance to the amenities to the exceptional customer service exceeded expectations. If you’re looking for a spa experience that blends luxury with breathtaking natural beauty, this is it. I will absolutely be returning.
PS - if you visit, try the pizza restaurant (FARO) - it was delicious!
All in all, 5/5
The reception staff was so helpful when we arrived, really taking time with our older parents to get the right dinner reservations, early check in and later check out.
The mineral pool was lovely and in a beautiful spot.
Enjoy!
