Dauphine Saint Germain in Paris

I checked out today and went back and reviewed what I originally booked. A superior double. I am giving this two stars because our room did not match the photos online. The online pictures had far bigger windows and a larger desk and a larger bathroom.

There are a few things that come with an older hotel that is just how it is, not affecting my review: you can hear all intimate details from your neighbors, the shower, and room was small, things a little older. The shower temperature was unable to hold a steady temp and would jump between cold and hot.

But for $350 a night there are a few things that could improve the experience for guests. The mattress was cheap and sagged. The pillows were well past their prime, flat and uncomfortable. The shower head was so small it would only get part of you wet, high efficiency larger shower heads is a simple swap. The towels were cheap and scratchy. In the shower itself it was a 3x3 stall with a cheap curtain, it only had a body wash/shampoo combination in a single bottle, no conditioner, no body lotion.

I did not raise my concerns with the front desk because these issues are for the managers to solve, not the desk.

I liked the location, but would not stay here again.

A horrible stay, I will never return. The overall cleanliness is lacking. Mold on the carpets and a musty smell permeated the rooms. This is not just an old building, but also neglect. I requested a family room for four persons, but they gave us two rooms separated by a hallway foyer. I asked for communicated rooms, but the staff said they were "interconnected". We had to endure a hallway light on all night. There was even a security camera, so I feared for our privacy. I asked for a refund, but the manager refused. They suggested moving the children to another floor. What parents would do that? They promised their best efforts to find a solution, but they just talked. That never happened. The staff indicated that we had to cancel 24 hours in advance, but it was a "legal" trick they used because obviously you can't cancel until you arrive and check the room. They ruined our trip; we felt cheated.
