Royal Batoni in Kvareli

This place does not let people in that might not seem that wealthy! They most certainly profiled us!
My sister and I were there with our husbands 3 days prior to the incident. We were all dressed up and in a nice car. So that time all we heard was please welcome, this way, enjoy your evening…

After we left I realized that I lost my sunglasses. We called and they said that they had multiple different sunglasses that matched the description of mine so we went back to pick it up.
This time around I was with my parents. We had diner plans later on so we thought we’d get a quick glass of wine and appetizers beforehand. My parents live in the village. All we wanted was a quick glass of wine to catch up.
We were in my dad’s car. They stopped us at the gate and the gentleman made a phone call. He walked away so that we would not hear what he was saying.

He came back telling us that there was no space in the restaurant everything was reserved. We all understood that. And we were aware of the fact that we didn’t not have a reservation so it was all good.
So I explained that I needed to go up there anyway to pick up the sunglasses. On my way back into the car he very rudely said : “Don’t go into the restaurant!” The way he spoke to us made me think that there was more to the story.
I asked the receptionist if they had the space for 5 people for a quick wine and appetizers as we were headed to the dinner after. Turns out the restaurant was empty!!! Server said pick any table you like. And it hit me that it was not about reserved restaurant. It was about the fact that we drove old car and we did not come across as wealthy.
When I asked them what was going on because they were turning us around at the gate while restaurant being empty here was an awkward silence between the employees.

Remind you, We spoke Georgian to them so there was not any kind of misunderstanding! This place is keeping local people out of the restaurant if they come across as poor. If you are not driving a nice car and you can still pay for a diner and enjoy a glass of wine too bad for you, you still are not welcome here!
This place is discriminating against middle class that might not be able to drive just released cars but can afford a diner!
Please don’t go there!! There are so many chateaus in Kakheti right now that you do not need this fake pretentious environment around you that discriminates against local residents!
I left speechless and extremely heartbroken to realize that it is how they treat Georgian people there. I left feeling extremely angry and sick to my tomack.
