Where to stay in Oberammergau

We had a great stay at the Hotel. Super location on outskirts of town. Quiet. Room was very comfortable and large with separate sitting room, bathroom, bedroom and huge balcony with a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. Plenty of easy parking and we used the Indoor Pool. Also, secure storage for bikes. Hotel bar & restaurant is not open on Thursday and Fridays but plenty of places to eat...

I must say that overall, services in Germany have worsened in the last two years. The staff were very friendly and helpful. But the price-quality ratio is quite poor.

Extremely nice food and big portions, on Sunday for breakfast smoked salmon and Prosecco, amazing selection of cheese, nice rooms, small but warm and clean pool and sauna, beautiful views, location 3 min from centre and by the river. Much better choice to stay there and drive to Gapa then stay in overpriced Gapa

I stayed in this hotel in July. As I travelled with Deutsche Bahn, I took a bus from the train station, because of the heavy luggage (Oberammergau was not my only stop). I was glad to see that there's a bus stop near the hotel. We traveled and the weather wasn’t the best but we spent a great time. Shoutout to the kitchen/waiter personnel because they went above and beyond for us, traveling with a child that is a very picky eater! The hotel is located in a quite small town close to Linderhof palace. It works well as a gateway to Zugspitze in the south and Neuschwanstein in the west. The room is big, clean and modern. The restaurant and the breakfast are excellent. Truly a hidden gem.

Very convenient if you are planning to go to NATO School - 15 min walking. It is also the first stop if you take the shuttle from NATO - 5 min by bus. Nice breakfast. Small gym and sauna. 5/10 min walking to city center. 15 min walk to the train station and to supermarkets - LIDL.

Happy to be back at Mammhofer and Oberammergau We’ve been here 5 times, last 3 at Mammhofer. Close to everything we want to visit, easy go anywhere in town just walking. Excellent care and attention of the owner. It is like visit friends. I think that if we comeback to the same place and plan to return next time means more than many positive words We can write or say.

We were there just for a meal as part of our visit to the Passion plays. It was well organised, the food was excellent, drinks served quickly, time was of an essence as we were there during the interval. It’s a 10 - 15minute walk from the main part of the town, but there is a free bus which circulates every 20 minutes.

Only issue was the tv stopped working. Wasn't all that of a big deal since all German but management did not check it after it was reported.

Wonderful stay with friendly and helpful staff, quiet location with mountain view right across the street. Sauna available from 3-8pm is a treat after a day in the outdoors. A hot Gluhwein on tap in the afternoons and the fireplace rounds off a luxurious stay. Breakfast from 8-10am is diverse and high quality. Rooms and bathrooms are immaculately clean.

Hotel Maximilian was quite enchanting. The location is ideal since it sits in the heart of the village where you can find unique shops, restaurants and a beautiful cemetery with interesting headstones of past generations. The hotel is centrally located, which makes it great for getting around. Overall stay was okay, but the place feels outdated and parts could use renovation. Breakfast was average at best, and the broken coffee machine didn’t help. Decent for a short stay, but not memorable.

This was an excellent hotel for a 2 week stay. The hostess is extremely friendly and goes out of her way to help. The rooms are extremely spacious and everything is kept very clean. One of the best stays I've had, largely due to the great hostess.

We loved our stay here. We came for the Passion Play and Erol & Petra made us feel so at home. As if we were family. The place itself was excellent. What a great place! This is a great property that is well worth the price. The family that runs it are wonderful. We had a wonderful room with a balcony. It is very up to date. There is even a reasonable cost to use the laundry. Breakfast was outstanding with numerous selections.

This is an excellent place to stay when visiting Oberammergau. The rooms are spacious, the breakfast excellent and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. We stayed here in 2023 and again this past July in 2025. The hotel is conveniently located in Oberammergau and is an easy walk to restaurants and shopping. If we ever return to Oberammergau we would definitely stay here again.
