Landhotel Potsdam in Potsdam

We stayed as a stop on a long return journey - a great opportunity to visit the famous Potsdam castles/palaces in Park Sanssouci!

Rooms are neat and clean and relatively modern. Beds can be separated.

The train station at 12min walking has trains & buses stopping at the Park Sanssouci. Speaking of which...

The trains on the nearby traintracks frequently use their horns when approaching the Golm train station. We also had a room at the back, where the sun terrace is (and thus you can sometimes hear people talk).

The hotel's restaurant is NOT serving dinner during the weekend. It's open on Saturdays, but only for cake. There's also very little restaurants in the area - we were turned away by Golmé on Saturday as they already had too many guests. There's 2 döner spots, though.

The hotel charges for parking. There's a couple of public spots opposite. At 10min walking you also have the university's free parking lot.

Overall a decent hotel. Definitely cheaper than Potsdam itself, but you may have to drive to Potsdam to get food.

Well located for those going to the nearby university or Max Planck Institute (when their hotel is booked out). But let's say that service in the lobby is something of a throwback to former political structures in Germany: the receptionist looked aghast when we said we had a reservation. It took a moment or two for him to look it up (I think it was in a big book). Then, highly flustered, he fixated on some newfangled technology that he desperately wanted us to understand: apparently, the room keys are not metal, but rather these... I don't know...cards of some sort. It seemed that, to him, this concept was highly foreign to my wife and me. He *really wanted to make sure we understood, as if there'd be a quiz later.

It wasn't "bad" service so much as it was bumfuzzled and weird. He wasn't unfriendly, but the whole thing had a seriously anachronistic throwback to DDR service - when, at dinner time, you and some friends dressed for dinner showed up at a restaurant that serves dinner, and the door was blocked and zealously guarded by a goon who demanded to know what you wanted.

We took the "luxury" junior suite and were aghast to see an entire wall covered in peeling paint; paint flakes the size of dinner plates leaning off the wall.

There was no telephone (crucial when we needed to call downstairs), no air conditioning, and a carpet out of a 70s porno movie. But it was clean, the bed comfortable, and a well-appointed bathroom.

The restaurant is very good, worthy of a visit if you're in the area.

Wonderful property in the quiet village of Golm. Very well-appointed, spotlessly clean & well furnished. Food excellent, staff even better!

Breakfast okay, Hotel is acceptable, the door cards are not always functional. Lunch and dinner, too little and no wifi
