Hotel Fritz in Valwig

Booked 2 rooms at this Hotel on Mai 31st to celebrate my cousins 70th B day. 2 deluxe rooms with balcony and Moselblick for August 17th through 21st. for 1200 euros. On July 22nd we got a not so friendly letter that we need to pay in full up front or the booking would be cancelled. My brother spoke to the manager and we could then pay at the hotel which is normal. July 31st we were informed of water damage and our deluxe rooms were no longer available but superior rooms were available and comparable, balcony or moselblick( River view) which she could not say at the time. Those rooms were 20 euros less per night. since it was kind of late to book anything else we agreed. On August 12th we were informed that the rooms were not available and we were offered 2 apartments in the Village 200 meters from the Hotel. At that time we had no choice but to take that. What a joke.. you could call the apartment a Studio at best. looking at the pictures explains it. The rooms were not very clean and our balcony was full of weeds , had 2 chairs and no sun shade or umbrella, surrounded by walls and houses. The bare minimum was supplied in the rooms and 2 tiny pillows in the bed. The worst was the sewer smell in the bathrooms, it was nauseating. We did complain about that and the next day the rooms were cleaned and the smell a little better. We stuffed towels over the shower drain and sink. The restaurant was good and the employees super friendly and nice. The breakfast was good as well , we had to ask for the bus passes that were advertised. When we paid we got a total 10 EUROS discount for our troubles per room that was still 510 Euros . Very confusing was the pamphlet as well were it broke down the prices, 75 Euros for a Doppelzimmer , usually is per room double occupancy . But it was per person. Definetly not worth it and the Communication was not great.

I gave two stars, one for its good location and one for its friendly employees.
I am not expecting anything fancy, but the room and facilities there are rather disappointing:
1. the family room was not fitting with the photo in their booking page, the photo shows a modern looking room but actually it was a old style wooden color furnitures room. Since we were two people so the 2nd bedroom was locked and not offered for us, but we did paid for the rate of a family room.
2. The old wooden bed makes load noise when you just turn or try to sit up.
3. There is zero sound prove, we heard upstairs talking and move around the whole night. We were lucky that we packed ear plugs.
4. the milk in breakfast tasted like water, but not sure whether it is intended, like no fat version, did not see a sign there was also no other option.
