Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso in Athens

The hotel staff had a bad attitude. We booked 2 rooms for 4 people, but the hotel said they only received an order for 2 rooms for 3 people, so we were overcharged by 60 euros. If we didn't look carefully at the details, we wouldn't have noticed. Later, Ctrip covered the cost. The room facilities were old and the soundproofing was poor. I didn't sleep all night on the first day. There were constant sounds of people walking and moving chairs upstairs, and I could even hear people talking next door. It was very noisy, just like a 3-star hotel in China.

I booked Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso expecting a luxurious 5-star experience, but what I got was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we walked into the room, the first impression was completely ruined: ants crawling on the floor, pubic hair in the bathroom sink, dirty sheets with stains, torn curtains, and even a used sock left under the bed. This wasn’t just disappointing—it was appalling.

We immediately asked for an early checkout, offering to pay for the first night just to leave. Instead of addressing the issues or showing any professionalism, the manager, George Giannitopoulos, not only refused our request but shifted the blame onto us, even accusing our dog of causing the damages. Let me be clear: the issues were documented with photos upon our arrival, and the dog is well-behaved and incapable of the so-called damages they claimed.

The lack of professionalism and accountability was astonishing, and frankly, I wouldn’t describe this manager’s approach as anything close to being a gentleman. This refusal to handle the matter fairly caused us over €1,000 in damages and ruined what should have been a relaxing trip.

Even basic expectations were ignored—how does a 5-star hotel have bathroom doors that don’t lock?

Fortunately, Booking.com refunded their service fee after reviewing the situation, but the experience left a bad taste that no refund can erase. Avoid this hotel and its management at all costs. Cleanliness, professionalism, and respect for guests are clearly not on their priority list.
