Athens Center Square Hotel in Athens

I read previous reviews on different platforms before booking this hotel for a 2 night stay. I do wonder if I am in a parallel universe to other reviewers. My expectation was a quiet clean hotel in central Athens near the markets with a good breakfast. The reality was a noisy hotel in a very downbeat area. I had a room on the fifth floor facing the markets. The hotel has placed lighting all round the frontage of each room and level which the curtains do not black out. The market starts up maybe 5am and that’s without incessant alarms going off throughout the night. The bedroom and bathroom layout is poor (the cupboard doors bang into the bathroom door). There are no locks on the bathroom door. The room was small and the decor was poor. The breakfast area is a joke - let’s put all the coffee and drinks machines in one corner along with the cutlery to make the guests fall over each other. The quality of the breakfast was average at best. The reception staff ranged from amenable to surly. I feel the room cleaners and attendants are the real heroes and heroines here because they do their best with what they have and I applaud the job they did cleaning our room. However, this wasn’t the most expensive option and I feel you could get much better for your money. Three stars is generous.

+ Comfortable mattress and efficient A/C (not too noisy). A little dark, but a good thing in summer. Good and varied breakfast buffet
