The Lake Hotel in Ioannina

I stayed 3 nights in this place to take a rest in my long 6 -7 week trip. The highlight for me would be food and service. The food was surprisingly good. I mean really good. A twist on traditional Greek food that was very much to my taste. Food is a personal thing of course and I am English but live in Spain. The food is ideal for an English palate with the pork main dish a highlight and also the Mediterranean salad which is a twist on a Greek salad. I had this salad every day!
The service from the barman (that was working the breakfast and lunch shift when I was there) was fantastic. Watchful, helpful, brave enough to recommend some dishes and always attentive. The front desk was great too and sorted out the laundry of some of my technical clothing which is a pain to wash as it’s no conditioner, no tumble dry and no ironing. He took my laundry himself to make sure the specific instructions were given correctly in Greek. It came back perfect which I am sorry to say is not always my experience.
The location by the Lake is slightly disappointing. But only slightly. The hotel does not own the land all the way to the lake and when I was there the view was disturbed by stadium like seating facing the lake I imagined for rowing or other water sports. It’s a 25 min walk to the old town but it’s worth the walk just to look around and see. There are plenty of things to look at and plenty of coffee and real bars. The American bar is worth stopping for a cold beer on a warm day going back to the hotel. All in all a good place and I would go back without hesitation and aim to eat more of the dishes on the menu
It’s also easy drive to see the Vikos gorge at the various viewpoints and I think better than staying up in Aristi for example as there is much more to do in Ioannina

My favorite hotel in Ioannina. Big and cozy room , mix for modern an tradition style . Nice staff , really good breakfast. The only problem was the crowded pool with people that are not staying in the hotel.

Everything very fine except of breakfast which was terrible but this problem is common in Greece.

Great location, close to the airport wih plenty of parking. Spa, front desk, beach are excellent.

Our experience at the lake hotel was completely unplanned but we were lucky to cross there. It happened to arrive very late at 1 am (after midnight) in Ioannina and all hotels were overbooked. Someone suggest us to go here, the reception staff were very polite and friendly to offer us the suite room. Everything in suite room was fantastic, with details that all of us with a little kid felt very good. The breakfast was very delicious, almost everything you can find and very tasty. However, allow me to suggest maybe two things that for 5 stars hotel maybe it helps to improve. First, it was the window that I didn’t see with details but in the morning when I opened, I saw that curtains “fixed” it, because it was broken. And the closet had a scratch in the middle. It happens of course but for a suite maybe have to give more attention to these little things that make difference. Second, I know there are rules about the breakfast and hours, but as we were still eating (at 10:20) the staff comes and said: take what you have to take, because we will close and remove everything from buffe. It sounds me a little bit rude, because the standard of a 5 stars hotel could be more polite, regarding the price that people pay. After days in the nature, pool was a real treatment. Breakfast very good . One little thing to improve in breakfast- I think the coffee (latte) should be free of charge. Everything else was wonderful!!!!

In the delightfully busy city of Ioannina, the location of The Lake Hotel is perfect, away from the hustle-bustle and yet close to everything. The reception area and restaurant open out to a view of the mountains, with a recreational area and swimming pool that look over the lake. We dined twice at the hotel and loved the food, including the generous breakfast. Our young server, Thanatos, a student of ancient Greek philosophy, was fascinating. In the end, a hotel is only as good as the people who work there and a special commendation goes to Giorgos and his crew, including at reception. We had a wonderful stay in this hotel.

good hotel but quite far from Old Town, restaurants, bakeries and pier to take the boat to visit the island in the lake. the location is not the best. good breakfast
