Kassandra Hotel in Ialyssos

Decent hotel in terms of size, cleanliness and apartment. Fresh towels and bedding daily which is great, however the shower isn’t great, not much hot water and pools are small and dirty. It’s definitely a hotel to just stay at self catering (rest your head) and eat out. 90% of staff are great, helpful and smiley, 1 or 2 are miserable and feel like a chore to help. Car hire is easy and deposit free which is great, good price too. We had room 104 which is a 3 bedroom apartment and very spacious. Big downside was that you don’t get aircon included - it’s €9 per day which is heartbreaking :( They have karaoke Tuesday; Thursday and Saturday nights which is a good laugh and everyone joins in. 8:30 - 11:30. If you get to the pool before 10am you usually get a good spot, it opens 9-7 daily.

I was happy to stay in a budget hotel and expected it to be out dated and didn’t mind as it was just a base. The cleaners came every day which I was impressed by so although the room was shabby I knew it was clean! It was a bigger room than I expected as well as the studio for 2 there was a separate double bedroom. The bathroom floor was constantly wet as the shower curtain wasn’t fit for purpose. You had to pay extra for them to switch the air con on so we didn’t bother. My daughter was keen on using the gym equipment and spa. - There was none available as seen in the photos online. The ‘gym’ room was full of builders tools and rubbish. The sauna, jacuzzi and treatment rooms were closed. The pool side bar in photos looked like it’s not been open for years. We were pleasantly surprised to find 2 pools to use and plenty of sunbeds. The staff could be a bit rude, we asked the receptionist to order us a taxi and she made me pay €5 cash to her and told me to pay driver another €20 to the old town, I’m guessing the €5 was just for her to call taxi firm! Once there we realised that the journey should have cost €15. The food in the taverna was very good, we ate there several times and most of the staff were pleasant. There was one older guy who was very rude though and spoilt it for us. He took down our order wrong and when he brought the wrong food he got really angry! (No such thing as customer always right here!) rather than apologising for his mistake and our inconvenience he was muttering and laughing with his colleagues, making a big deal and when I paid and he asked if it was card or cash and I said card, he rolled his eyes and said “of course you’re paying with card” indicating that I was a problem and they all laughed, it was my last day and I had run out of cash, I didn’t want to bring several Hundred euros in cash!! He then had the cheek to point out where to add the tip. He really spoilt it for us. Entertainment in the evening was either non existent or very poor. Great location, close to the beach and a short walk to lots of bars and restaurants. Very close to airport and old and new towns. Would I gonna k to Rhodes? Yes, would I stay here again? No.
