Wellness Hotel Szindbád in Balatonszemes

We planned to spend the New Year’ eve holiday at the hotel. Our accommodation was paid in full in advance.
Upon arriving we were shocked about the dated furniture/linen and poor condition of the rooms/bathroom.
There was barely any heat in the room, and we were forced to take shower in cold water for days. After numerous complaints the management provided a small space heater which was not enough to maintain acceptable room temperature. As we found out, the hotel experienced major issues with their furnace prior to Christmas which caused the lack of heat and warm water. The temperature outside was 0 C• or -2 C•- under these conditions the management should have cancelled the reservations, because the lack of basic necessities being provided have ruined our holiday, and the hotel was not prepared to accommodate any guests without sufficient heat and warm water!!!!!
The items on the buffet were not kept under sufficient heat at all but a heating lamp above the dishes provided some level of temperature. I am certain that the kitchen would not have passed the Health Department regulations!
There was zero service for the rooms.
We have felt extremely uncomfortable throughout our stay, because there was not one place within the hotel where we could have warmed up!!!!
The New Year’s Eve party turned out quite nice but by then we were extremely unhappy and rattled due to the conditions.
The only positive comment I could make is the kindness and helpfulness of the wait staff!
Due to all the inconvenience we decided to leave the hotel one day earlier than our reservation was arranged for.
It would be the decent thing to do if we received reimbursement for the day we did not spend at the hotel.
Simply, an establishment especially a hotel without heat and warm water should not be allowed to operate at all since it is winter time!
Also, BE AWARE of all the extra charges for using the sauna, jacuzzi, fitness, bathrobe and scrambled eggs/fresh orange juice in the buffet, bowling alley and other games!!!!! Perhaps the packages could be sold for a higher amount rather than surprise guest with all the additional/unexpected charges most of which are not pointed out upon purchasing the package!

Unfortunately van not recommend the hotel especially in summer time before renovation and climatisation

It's a nice place, but nothing special. The prices are okay, it's cheap. So don't expect fancy things. The food relatively okay, the rooms are more or less clean. The shower, that's bad. The water smells for a minute, I don't know why. It has a Spa area, with sauna, aroma cabin, not tubs.

We were here in August, leaving with mixed feelings: the room was clean, but since we were upstairs and there was no air conditioning, the heat was unbearable. The discomfort was exacerbated by the stench emanating from the spa, which probably took off from the wellness.
The bed was not a double bed, but two sofa beds pushed together, so my particularly sore waist was tortured, but that was more my fault.

What I didn’t like was that you had to pay extra for the egg dishes in the morning, and anyone could come into the area for an extra charge.

And then the negatives after the positive things:
- Breakfast was plentiful and delicious,

- The staff is specifically direct and helpful,

- Pleasant courtyard with pool.

Overall, I recommend this place, but only to people who, like me, can dispense with such things and spend their time mainly on the shores of Lake Balaton.
