This could be the most expensive hotel in our Iceland trip. Anyway it's great as expect. The hotel is great, we like the decoration and the room. Breakfast is good too. Staff can wake us up if there is a northlight available, good service. Furthermore, you can enjoy taking a photo around the hotel, very good landscape view.

Facilities in our accommodation were of great quality: we particularly appreciated the comfort of the bed as well as the shower room.
The staff were very enthusiastic; while we were having dinner at UMI restaurant, the northern lights were visible in the sky and they let us know, keeping our dinner warm while we went outside to view the lights. The dinner was excellent and our breakfast options were also delicious.
While checking in, the staff also recommended us to walk to the nearby black sand beach. We got there at sunset, and the scenery was incredible. The views from both sides of the hotel (the seaside and mountain) were great although, I think the mountain is probably more interesting as the sea is quite far away (we chose sea).

We really enjoyed our stay at Umi Hotel and would highly recommend it. The private black sand beach was incredible. We had it all to ourselves in the morning and it was one of our favorite highlights from our one week trip. Definitely take the 10-15 minute walk from the hotel over to it!
Our room at the hotel was very nice and clean. The shower was O-M-G perfect after a long day of hiking and sightseeing. The rainfall shower had incredible water pressure and the local bath products made of Icelandic herbs was an extra treat.
We also had dinner at the on-site restaurant as a treat to celebrate our anniversary. The food was fabulous. We ordered the Icelandic Scallops and Minke Whale Tataki appetizers, Icelandic Cod and Confit Arctic Char mains, and Hot Chocolate and Peanut Butter Lava Cake dessert. We also ordered the Umi Special cocktails and several glasses of wine, including orange wine. Service was slow and a little inattentive, which was the only less than perfect thing about dinner. But we still had a great experience and would highly recommend both the hotel and restaurant.

I had my wedding here Oct. 13th of this year. To be honest, I planned my entire wedding around this hotel. I absolutely fell in love with it when I saw it for the first time, and then happened to fall in love with Kvernufoss down the road. They were so amazing to us. My family and I can get rowdy and loud, and it wasn’t a problem at all. The staff was so incredibly nice and friendly, and the rooms were so cute. It was better than I could have imagined. My husband and I will be back, I’m certain. We wished we could have met the doggy, but we know he was there in spirit. The food for our reception was also so good. The wine though, was SO STRONG. Lol. I was drunk before dinner was over. Nothing wrong with that though. Thank you so much for turning my dreams into reality. I could never thank you guys enough.

Just loved this place! Beautifully located and with really nice restaurant. Don’t miss taking the short walk down to the black lava sand beach. We walked down in the morning and caught the sunrise, all by ourselves - a truly unique experience!

Overall, our stay at Umi was just ok. Here are some pros and cons:
Positives:
1. Good location, close to a lot of great stuff.
2. The modern design aesthetic is cool.
3. Everything was very clean.
4. Solid breakfast.
5. We had dinner at the restaurant, and the food here was better than any of the other hotel restaurants we went to during our trip.
6. One of the staff members we interacted with was incredibly kind and lovely. She was our server for dinner and she was great and went above and beyond.
Negatives:
1. The soundproofing is really bad. Significantly worse than all of the other hotels in Iceland we stayed in. You will legitimately hear everything outside your hotel room.
2. Beds were not comfortable. We stayed in several hotels during our trip, and the beds at Umi were the worst.
3. Window ventilation was very limited, and our room got too hot. This was uncomfortable.
Overall, they got a lot of things right with the design and the food. Unfortunately, the negative items are primary to getting a good night’s sleep, which is the main purpose of a hotel.
Would I stay here again? Honestly probably not. The negatives are too problematic to justify the cost of this hotel, and unfortunately it was the least comfortable sleep of our trip compared to the other hotels we stayed in.
