Reviews
We recently stayed at UMI Hotel and overall had a very lovely experience. The hotel is beautifully located within short walking distance of the Black Beach and about a 20-minute drive from Vík. It’s also only around 10 minutes by car to Skógafoss, which makes it a great base for exploring the south coast.
The hotel is run by Anna and her team and you really feel the family-run spirit — staff support across different areas and create a very warm, welcoming atmosphere. The vibe throughout the property is fantastic.
Facilities include two saunas (one public and one available for private rental) and a small workout room with barbells and a yoga mat. The restaurant served good food — the menu is not huge but the quality is very solid. Breakfast buffet was decent as well.
One highlight of our stay was experiencing the Northern Lights from the hotel — truly one of the most magical moments of our Iceland trip.
The only downside for us was the room pricing. At around €400 per night, we felt the rooms were not fully value for money. That said, the superb location and overall atmosphere still make this a special place to stay. And yes Iceland is expensive and yes we could have chosen another hotel for a lower price but we did not. All i am saying is that the price is too much for what the rooms are 🙏🏻
The restaurant was particularly disappointing. The food simply was not good. We were a group of three, and none of us enjoyed our meals. Considering the way the hotel promotes itself, especially with references to Michelin standards, the experience did not reflect that level of quality. It was far from what we would consider Michelin caliber.
Overall, our expectations were high due to the branding and marketing, but unfortunately, the reality did not match the promise.
restaurant is good - good service and good food. Breakfast is simple but you have a lot of Healthy options, only i would suggest to have a egg order a la carte to make your breakfast complete. ( scrambled eggs where salty and not fresh ) hopefuly for our next visit we can order a la carte eggs.
Cleanliness: Clean, soft towels, disposable slippers and bathrobes provided.
Service: The staff were friendly and helpful.
Facilities: Breakfast was quite substantial, although it was still white food.
