Best experience! Amazing place with nice and warm people. We went horseback riding in the stunning landscapes and ate great meals in the restaurant. Will warmly recommend this place to anyone visiting Iceland.

We arrived by chance last minute as we fled our previous hotel (UMI). Skalakot was a true haven. We were so surprised by the amazing food, which was all local, and homemade (amazing bread selection at night, fresh eggs in the morning and pancakes on demand). So cosy, beautiful bedroom and bathroom with an amazing huge bath, with a beautiful view on both sides. Looks like a chalet, so authentic and not touristy. A true local experience with amazing service as well! By far the best choice in the region! Highly recommend it.

We had our wedding here and rented out the hotel for the weekend. The rooms were clean and sophisticated, the food was some of the best I've ever had, but most importantly the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful with every little detail. Special thanks to Lorraine (spelling?) who went above and beyond to make sure everyone had an unforgettable experience.

Skalakot was our favorite stay on our two week trip around Iceland. The attention to detail is just amazing, the rooms are beautiful, the hospitality is wonderful. Everyone on staff was so attentive and obviously very good at what they do. And the food, the food was amazing, we had a few meals and everything was just phenomenal. The entire atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the horseback riding is incredible as well! Everything was just perfect!!! Can’t say enough good things and hope to come back someday!

I had the opportunity to visit this property in May 2017, and I had an unforgettable experience riding horses to a beautiful waterfall. The horses were so well behaved and the ride was smooth. The staff did an excellent job of leading the group, keeping everyone encouraged and calm, and teaching us about the area and the traditions surrounding the Icelandic horses

I'm not an experienced rider but I've done a lot of trail riding around the world (because my partner loves to ride). This was the best trail riding I've ever done. The scenery was unbeatable and the horses were so well trained! The tölt is incredible! Thank you Linn and Nicole for a fantastic ride! You took care of the two beginners in our group and created opportunities for our experienced friends.

Not recommendable! We were a small group of 4 people + guide. The Tour took us along the main street to the black sand. This is where everything went wrong. Horses got nervous, guide started yelling at people and horses and kicked the "misbehaving" horse from a standing position , while holding its reins tight. The rest of the horses got nervous and were not easy to handle. Due to quick Sand we had to ride back again, without actually reaching the black Sand... And the Tour is called 'Black Sand' but you will only See the Street! Someone should have told us before. Choose another one.

Visited Skálakot in mid-Oct 2013 witthe family. Had a great ride with just the four of us and our guide. The horses were so gentle and friendly. Really cute dog, who was shy at first...but then was extremely friendly and playful.
Great location with stunning scenery. Highly recommend it for a short hour ride or an extended trip!
