Description

Hafnarnes is a 2-star guesthouse located in Hofn, Iceland, offering a range of room types including standard singles, doubles with views, triples, quadruples, and run of house options. The property features free WiFi, heating, family rooms, and a concierge service. While the rooms and common areas such as the kitchen and dining spaces are generally clean and tidy, guests should expect shared bathrooms that can become crowded during peak times. The kitchen is equipped with coffee and juice machines, and there is free parking available. Although pets are listed as allowed in services, the official policy prohibits them. The guesthouse has a lift but some guests have noted narrow staircases. Overall, Hafnarnes receives an average rating of 8.2/10, with guests praising its beautiful views of snow-capped mountains and a nearby lake, as well as the helpfulness of the owner. However, some find the exterior cluttered and the facilities basic compared to the price.

Location

Hafnarnes is situated in Hornafjordur, around 3 km from Hornafjordur Airport (HFN). The guesthouse is about 1 km outside the town center of Hofn, making it more convenient for travelers with a car rather than on foot. The location offers direct views of snow-capped mountains and is adjacent to a scenic lake. The setting is quiet and surrounded by natural beauty, with horses kept outside the rooms, adding a rural Icelandic touch. Although it’s a bit removed from town amenities, the proximity to the airport and natural landmarks makes it a practical stop for travelers exploring eastern Iceland.

Tips

  • If you plan to stay here, bring your own toiletries and extra towels as the shared bathrooms may be crowded.
  • Renting a car is advisable since the guesthouse is about 1 km from Hofn town center and public transport options are limited.
  • Be prepared for some noise from shared facilities and an exterior area that may appear cluttered; packing earplugs might help light sleepers.

Nice views but not fancy
Guesthouse with nice views. Shared bathroom which were too busy in the mornngs. Also shared kitchen with 2 small fridges. It was okay, junky outside the bldg. Owners could be more available. I waited outside for extra pillows. Someone went in but nevver came out again.

It is a nice place but a little bit outside of walking distance from town. I really enjoyed the coffee from the complimentary espresso machine.

Quiet, tidy guesthouse. The kitchen was well stocked with a juice machine and coffee machine. Bed was comfy.

On the upside, the interior (the bedrooms and kitchen/dining area) were clean and there was plenty of seating for dining. But the exterior feels like it is slowly turning into a junkyard - it was full of old/rusty vehicles/farm equipment, there was a rusty chimenea full of trash out front, and multiple trash bags were piled up under the stairs leading up to the guesthouse. The shower in the guesthouse was leaky and clogged and there were wires ripped out of the walls and an unfinished window in the shoe removal area. With some cleanup and proper care this place could be perfectly fine, but as it is now, I found it off-putting and would look elsewhere for a place to stay.

An absolute dump. Paid close to 400 US for a place not as nice as my freshman year dorm. Should take some of the exorbitant fee to reinvest in building and rooms. Of course sleeping here was better than sleeping in your car or outside but that’s about it. For those who have limited options, I guess stay here.

We stayed at Guesthouse Hafnarnes for one night during our ring road driving trip recently. This was the only accommodation that we had to share bathroom with more than 10 other people. And they wouldn’t allow cancellation more than 1 month before the trip. The price this place was charging was one of the highest among all of hotels we booked for this trip. Definitely overpriced. But I have to say the property was so beautiful, I got up early in the morning and was able to take some most beautiful pictures of the area for the entire trip.

not worth the price. its like a motel in usa. shared bathrooms were not enough for all rooms. rooms are very small. not a good finished property.

The location of the hotel is still some distance from the town, but it is quite convenient if you drive by yourself. The surrounding environment is okay. It faces the snow-capped mountains directly and is next to a beautiful lake. The owner has horses outside the room. However, the room is not clean. There were stains on our bed. There are dead flies, the sheets are not clean, and there are huge mosquitoes in the room. The bathroom and kitchen are shared, and basic necessities are also available. It is not worth the room fee. It is the uncleanest hotel around the island.
