Friendly staff but hotel room was very dirty incluiding the sheets. Made the beds sloppy did not throw away garbage the last two days of my stay. I won’t be staying there when i return to israel. Gave a two star because some staff was very friendly besides that the hotel stay wasn’t nice especially for the price i paid.

Great location but entrance is up an alleyway with difficult to see sign.
The manager is first class, very helpful and friendly.
Interesting history and character of the building.
Breakfast is excellent.
Good size room.

Quite a bit of street noise at busy Jaffa Gate.
Bed only a double not a queen and hard. Top sheet was for a smaller bed.
Lots of stairs and only a luggage elevator for first level.

The New (built in the 1800s!) Imperial Hotel was absolutely the perfect place for us to stay. As far as location, it cannot be beat. Just inside the Jaffa gate (the main gate to the old city of Jerusalem), the hotel is within walking distance to everything we wanted to see in Jerusalem, including downtown (which is outside the old city walls). Restaurants are a stones throw away, and the Tower of David is just across the road, allowing us to hear the orchestral music each evening that accompanied the light shows on the walls of the tower. The 360 degree views from the amazing rooftop were breathtaking, allowing partial views of the light shows at the Tower of David AND UNHINDERED views of sunsets (and sunrises had we been up early enough), both of which change the colors of this largely stone city from cream to gold and every shade in between).

Our room on the third floor (# 8) was 57 steps from entering the hotel to our doorstep, and faced a busy street, which to us felt like the pulse of this amazing city.
So if you're concerned about noise or stairs, you might want a the room on a lower floor that is not facing the street. But for us, we thoroughly enjoyed the street noises--people singing, dancing, calling out to one other. and even horn honking which is an integral part of the city's communication style.

The room was clean and the staff were very friendly. Amir, the owner/host went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and was always checking to see if we needed anything. My wife arrived at the hotel with an upset stomach and Amir brought her fresh mint leaves in hot water (which is VERY soothing) and checked on her daily. The breakfast buffet was always excellent and one of our favorite times of the day--the atmosphere is so very pleasant, combined with good food and a variety of espresso drinks and hot teas. There is also an espresso machine in the main lobby available 24 hours a day.

The only complaint is that even though there are "no smoking" signs everywhere in the hotel there was always a lingering smell of cigarette smoke in the hallways and occasionally in the breakfast room. We would return to THIS hotel regardless, and hope that the smoking issue will be fixed.

We honestly felt like we were staying in a very elegant home, with extended family. ❤️ There are two elegantly appointed (with antiques) sitting rooms, exterior balconies with seating, and that lovely breakfast room with excellent music, a warm welcome, and home made food. Amir's sister is always making something new and delicious to add to the already bountiful fare, which included healthy and satisfying options. ❤️

We miss being there and talk of it often!

This hotel is a gem. Great, central location in Jerusalem and right inside Jaffa Gate. Safe, clean and comfortable. Terric breakfast included. Every staff person i interacted with was friendly, helpful and kind. The building itself dates from the 1880s which gives it charm and authenticity, but my room & bathroom were clearly 21st century. AC included. No elevator, so be prepared to climb stairs. The front desk man helped me & several others carry our bags. Lovely hotel. I will be back.

This was always a very good hotel.
But since 2025, all Christian symbols and icons have been removed. Ninety percent of the guests are Muslim. The breakfast buffet has been redesigned for Muslims, as has the hotel itself.

The breakfast was very different than a typical American breakfast. Everything fresh, lots of vegetables and healthy food. The staff was wonderful and it was conveniently located inside the old city. Great restaurant just around the corner called The Oak. Lots of shopping around and the roof top is wonderful for views and time together. Most of the staff are family and were some of the nicest people we met during our stay. Also listen to Amir the man running the place. He can get you tours and taxis a lot cheaper than you on your own.

This was my second time staying - last year’s week before Sukkot also. Kind and generous hospitality and friendliness at every turn. Great location. Wonderful rooftop. Delicious breakfast every day. Water and coffee 24/7
In the Old City - short walk to Kotel, Mamilla and Ben Yehuda. Taxis near by. Train from airport to CBD and then light rail to City Hall stop and walk to Jaffa gate. Well done dear friends!

We arrived at The New Imperial Hotel in Jerusalem with low expectations. Four couples of friends traveled to a concert at Sultan Auditorium and decided to choose a hotel nearby and the experience turned out to be far beyond what we expected. The hotel is simple but the experience is powerful and unique. It is housed in an old family-run building that beyond its distinctive architecture is full of history and life. The moment you enter you immediately feel the family heritage and the generations that have cared for it. The ceilings are high, the floors are spacious and each level has a different character. Every detail tells a story.

The staff is literally the family running the hotel dressed casually warm and welcoming making us feel as if we had arrived at a relative’s home. Coffee and tea are available 24 hours a day and the rooftop offers a stunning view where you can sit relax and enjoy a cold drink while overlooking the city below.

Breakfast is an experience in itself. The managers and staff went out of their way preparing and bringing us items that were not even on the menu cutting and arranging everything personally. It made us feel valued and cared for as if we were guests in their own home.

The rooms although old and authentic are clean and well maintained and the corridors are spotless. Every small detail from the cleanliness to the staff’s smiles makes the stay special. The hotel offers a blend of authenticity warmth and genuine care making it more than just a place to stay. It is a place to connect relax and truly feel at home in the heart of Jerusalem.
