Reviews
Family owned and managed; great team, friendly and professional. We've stayed there twice and our last stay this season was even better. The ski-room was just renovated and it is super comfy with brand new functional lockers and wide & comfy seating areas. Breakfasts and dinners are just fantastic with wide range of wine selection choices. The lounge & bar area is also quite comfy with great cocktails.
Superior rooms are perfect with double wash-basins, large bathroom (probably the most important part of the room for ski holidays), separate WC, and smart TV -you can log into your own Netflix or youtube account for relaxation.
With the complimentary shuttle service, you can start your skiing day not only from 2min drive Champinoi but also up at Dantercepies (saves a lot of time for doing Orange-Sell Ronda) with 4min. drive. Coming back to Armin by skiing is also possible; just ski down to piazza nives area from Dantercepies, and walk a few meters to the hotel.
Whenever we wish to stay at Selva di Val Gardena, this will be our place. See you there ;)
Location: situated on the main road in the centre of Selva, the hotel is just 5 minutes’ walk from the main Champinoi gondola (and another 5 minutes to the Costabella chairlift), with both giving direct access to the famed Sellaronda ski circuit. These lifts are situated up a gentle hill.
Breakfast (from 0730): delicious and well laid-out buffet with a variety of breads and pastries, quality and freshly prepared fruit salad, cereals, local jams and butter, streaky bacon, sausages, and boiled or scrambled eggs. The scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection every day. Pots of fresh filter coffee (good taste/strength) or tea brought to your table (and cappuccino or espresso upon request).
Dinner: a highlight of our stay was the exceptional 5-course dinner (plus salad buffet). Food was very high-quality, plentiful and beautifully presented. There was a choice of three mains each evening (chosen at breakfast) and we saw that children were also well catered for. Thursday had a Tyrolean theme (the goulash stew was delicious). The wine list was extensive but the local South Tyrol red was delicious and well priced. The dining room was elegant and beautifully presented - small touches like linen napkins and refreshed cutlery between courses were welcome.
Room: our double room on the first floor (above the entry/ground level) was spacious and comfortable with a nice bathroom (with a powerful shower, no bath). All rooms appear to have balconies and our room was at the rear of the property and avoided the occasional traffic noise (rooms/balconies at the front would be more exposed).
Staff/service: the dining room and reception staff were friendly and helpful. Everyone worked to deliver a very high level of service and clearly enjoyed their working environment.
Wellness area (open 1430-1900): the hotel’s basement wellness area was clean and well-appointed with a medium-sized sauna, great steam room and a few other facilities. Never crowded, we enjoyed a post-skiing visit each day. Robes, slippers and towels provided. There’s a ‘no swimwear’ policy in the sauna/steam room but using a well-placed towel for modesty was easy and fine for us Brits (!).
Ski facilities: we didn’t use the hotel’s boot room and instead had chosen to rent a (heated) locker at the Intersport (opposite the Champinoi gondola). We didn’t mind the short walk to this lift, although if using the hotel facilities and walking in ski boots the hotel’s complimentary shuttle bus (from 0815) would have been welcome. The Champinoi and Costabella lifts open daily at 0830.
Ski area: Selva is located directly on the famous Sellaronda circuit and the Dolomiti Superski area is vast - we continued to discover new pisted areas everyday. The Arabba and Alta Badia areas were fun. In general the pistes are wide and often tree-lined, with a good selection of reds and blues. Ideal skiing for all levels of skier. Slope-side huttes for food/drinks are plentiful and mostly full of Tyrolean charm: high quality and good value food (especially when compared to France’s 3 Valleys!). Large sun terraces offer fine views of the Dolomites’ iconic peaks. Some of the lower pistes into the resort get quite mashed up in warmer weather.
Cons? Not really. There’s no swimming pool but we knew that before booking.
In summary, this wonderful hotel delivers far more than what you’d expect for a 3+ star hotel and the half board offering is exceptional and great value.
The staff is so attentive and explained all the dishes well. The ambience at dinner felt warm and inviting, especially with the live music. I felt like I was eating in someone's dining room with the level of coziness they achieved.
Even if you don't stay at the hotel, I highly recommend their restaurant. You won't be disappointed.
