Masseria L'Antico Frantoio in Gallipoli

Attractive initial presentation but does not deliver on food quality, service, ambience or value for money. There were several issues with our meal tonight and a combination of carelessness and defensive posturing by the management meant that our long-planned outing was less than satisfactory. My dish (linguine w/ mixed seafood) was good. The starter was not so great, a loose interpretation of that old favourite—mussels gratinate. Then there was a mixed seafood appetiser, an assemblage that overeaches, although it does have its moments. The low point was the overpriced linguini ricci, this was yet another 'interpretation' — with a gravy-like sauce and served lukewarm. None of the plates were heated, although this is not usually the custom here, any chef knows for outdoor service on a not-too-hot evening, the plates will lose temperature as soon as they leave the kitchen. More astonishing was the owner/hostess' reaction upon being told this: she denied flatly that there was any issue with the temperature and made an uncomfortable scene. I found this peculiar, as she wasn't eating the food, we were, and so we were better positioned to judge! Other issues included a dirty plate for the starter, some inept bussing resulting in a tomato sauce stain on my Covid mask, and a white wine served lukewarm, not cold. In summary, L'Antico Frantoio charges 4 star prices for 2 star service, and a variable menu with some good and some poor dishes.

Avoid this place. Overpriced and with rude staff. I booked a junior suite with 1 double bed and a single bed. On arrival, the hotel had reserved us a room with only a double bed. After a lot of disagreement, they put a very uncomfortable make-shift single bed into the room and charged us €30 extra per night, having already paid €230 per night. The hotel is also in a very bad location. It is off a motorway so you need a car or taxi's to and from the nearest towns. There's absolutely nothing nearby. They are only short of charging you for using the tap water and the breakfast is very basic.
