Il Canale Hotel in Bologna

Stayed December 30, 2025 - January 2, 2026. During the night of January 1st to 2nd, I found myself locked out of my room after forgetting my keys inside. The hotel advertises a 24/7 reception, which was an important factor in my booking decision. Problem: no one was physically present at the reception. I called the hotel multiple times with no answer. *********** also tried to reach them without success. No emergency contact number was displayed anywhere, not even on the hotel's own business card at the reception. I had to spend the night in the corridor. When I requested a refund, the hotel refused, claiming I should have rung a doorbell outside (even though no one was visible) or called from the phone in my room (even though I was locked outside with no access to my room). They also labeled my request as a "threat" simply because I stated I would seek a refund and leave an honest review. When I retrieved my keys at 7:00 AM after my sleepless night, I asked for a late checkout to recover. The staff member told me checkout was normally at 10:00 AM but that he was "doing me a favor" by allowing noon. However, on my first day, I had been clearly told that checkout was at noon. So this was no favor at all, just what I had already been promised. I should have received an actual late checkout (1:00 or 2:00 PM) as compensation for their failure. After checkout, I left my luggage at the hotel. When I came back to collect it before catching my Flixbus to Switzerland, a staff member stopped me to "settle the score." Despite clearly stating I was in a hurry, this person repeated six times that they did not accept threats. I nearly missed my bus. He addressed me as "man" instead of showing basic respect. We are not friends. Completely unprofessional. Room doesn't match photos and is very small. Elevator urgently needs maintenance.I would not be surprised if it breaks down soon, trapping someone inside. Avoid at all costs.

Really surprised by all the good reviews. The staff were nice and helpful but the room was tiny and dirty; unpleasant stay. Breakfast was not very good. I would not recommend.

Stayed 4 nights in May. Beds are rock hard, black mold in shower, walls paper thin ..woke up to snoring in next room, walls are just dirty and just need to be cleaned, so much dust in the air conditioning I’d never turn it on, watch your wifi it will come on then keeps switching off. Upside it is a great location to everything.

Horror
Air conditioning not working and making a lot of noise. Breakfast so limited and the woman in charge of breakfast is so unpolite. Really disspointed.
