Pensione Rittmeyer in Trieste

1 | The Pensione, with three or four rooms, is a 4-minute walk from the main train station. Within walking distance, there’s also a supermarket (which closes at 9 PM) and the riverfront. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much where the list of advantages ends.

2 | The toilet and shower are shared by all four rooms. There was no shower gel in the bathroom, and the equipment was very basic, but it was clean.

3 | The entire pensione feels very outdated — rooms with parquet floors, damaged doors, and a window with a broken pane. In-room amenities included a TV, a ceiling fan with a light, and air conditioning (controlled by the receptionist). The room itself was surprisingly spacious.

4 | The price-to-quality ratio is not great. If there had been more options available at the time of booking, I would have chosen something else.

5 | A downside is the noise from the busy street. The guesthouse is in an older building and the sound insulation is poor.

6 | One highlight was the friendly lady at the front desk. It seemed she runs the place with her husband and they live in a room behind the reception. She didn’t speak English and only spoke Italian, which made communication a bit difficult.

The hotel is in an relatively old building, where different rooms of the apartment are different rooms of the hotel. It is one a common concept in Italy. Since the apartment is not so new, the quality of the interiors it not high, but the room is big. The position is good, very close to the train station. The management was kind.
