Hotel Mennini in Milan

I chose this hotel because it was quite close to the Milano Central Train Station - this is where the list of positive features ends.
The hotel is a relatively old building. The bathroom of the first room I was given, smelled like a pub 30 years ago, when indoor smoking was still allowed in Europe: intense stink of decade-infused cigarette smoke mixed with the cheapest kind of air freshner. The second room was the same. The third room was somewhat better: there only those thick curtains smelled cigarette smoke. The rooms are cleaned only superficially, the bathroom was unclean, unknown hair everywhere, poop in the toilet, stains all over. Disgusting.
The walls are made of paper. The doors just slam, so they are closed but there is no way to LOCK them as keys do not turn, no extra security chain or similar inside.
Around 23:30 in the night, a man (husband?) returned to the room next door and started yelling at his wife on a language unknown to me. As she got engaged in the fight, they started throwing objects at each other and also against the wall. It was very frightening. At this point, my dog started barking as it all sounded like happening in our room. The man then came out of their room, went to my door, started kicking and hammering on the door with his fists, angrily yelling something and imitating the barking of a dog. I was in fear for my dog’s and my own life.
As he went back to his room, I grabbed my coat and ran down to the porter to call the police. The entire floor was covered with cigarette smoke.
The night porter looked at me as if I was lying and said that he is sure that the guy just mistook his own room door with mine, this is why he was KNOCKING on my door. When I told him that it was not knocking and that I demand him to call the police immediately, he told me that nobody is calling the police here and I should go back to my room immediately. The only thing he did is that he came upstairs with me and he knocked on their door and shhhhh-ed them - he did not even say anything, he was just whispering shhhh at them, then he left.
Needless to say that this did not stop the arguing. They kept yelling at each other until around 1:00 in the night, when the wife started crying and the man passed out, snoring like a bear. I had to pile up the moveable furniture at the door, because there are no security locks on the door. Then I fell asleep too.
At 5:00 am, they woke up and continued yelling at each other. I called the night porter again, who was very angry with me. I asked him to do something. He did not even bother to come up, he just called the room next door, the wife picked up the phone and answered that everything is all right. They left with their wheeled suitcases around 5:30 am. As a farewell, they hammered on my door again as they walked out.
I reported the entire thing later, around 9. Apparently, the night porter did not even put a note on all those things, it was all new to the morning shift.
I still had to pay for the room, because the morning porter said that there was nothing to do.
The truth is that there was a lot that the night porter could have done, he just did not want to, because he did not care. He should have called the police to protect the other guests.
Do not stay there, they will not care about your safety. Doors do not have security locks from inside. Even they admit that doors are unsafe, as they ask guests to put their valuables in the safe and not to leave them in the room. The place is also against Law 3/2003 (as amended by Legislative Decree January 12, 2016, no. 6) on general public place smoking ban and it is a health hazard. Guests smoke in their rooms, the hotel management knows this, yet, they do not do anything. This story will not end here: I will notify the relevant authorities, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Municipality of Milan about what happened, nobody can take hostile actions or threaten other guests in a hotel. Shame on that entire hotel, I hope their license will be revoked soon.

When you stay at Hotel Mennonite Milano you start to miss the small things in life you take for granted.

Like a well lit welcoming lounge with a service minded staff. You miss the small things like the staff greeting you on arrival or departure and start to wonder why it is necessary with all the screaming and staff interrupting guests when talking to the receptionist.

In the rooms, you will miss the comfort of a 2000 century bed, thicker walls so that you don’t need to hear your neighbors talk, sneeze or cough. You will also miss the comfort of knowing if it is mold or not in the shower, if you will be able to have a comfortable resonable hot shower or if you will be boiled alive because turning on and off the faucet is either or.

It’s like a time travel back a few centuries which makes you miss all the comfort we are used to from a modern hotel. In short, the location is great but the hotel is outdated.
