Hokkawa Onsen Hotel in Higashiizu

The hotel's kaiseki dinner wasn't a hit with a lot of my family; they found it a bit strange, though I thought it was okay. The hotel itself is very comfortable, and the rooms are quite spacious. The tatami mats were a huge favorite with the kids, and the onsen (hot spring) is really authentic.

The room was spacious and bright with a beautiful sea view. The front desk staff was very helpful. Complimentary drinks and coffee are available on the 2nd floor. They offer free pick-up and drop-off service if you book in advance. There are clean and comfortable hot springs on both the 2nd and 11th floors. We had a private room for breakfast with a great view, which required booking a day in advance!

This was a really great experience. I specifically came to Beichuan Onsen (hot spring) to check it out; it's quite wild, right by the Pacific Ocean, and staying at the hotel grants free access. Beichuan is a small station, and the village only has one convenience store and one restaurant. Although it's remote, the convenience store has a good selection, and prices are cheaper than in the city. The only restaurant serves really good food! We didn't book hotel meals; the restaurant is right next to the hotel, and the sashimi is superb and affordable. Even the cheapest room we booked was excellent, ocean-facing, and had a comfortable layout. The rooftop hot spring offers amazing views. Overall, it's great, highly recommended. The only downside is that they charge extra for children… even though we didn't get extra beds, it almost doubled the room rate.

The hotel facilities are quite good; although it's an older hotel, it's clearly been recently renovated. The service was excellent. When we arrived at Izu-Atagawa Station, we hadn't arranged a pick-up with the hotel beforehand, but after a quick call, the front desk immediately sent a driver to get us. He arrived in about ten minutes, which was fantastic! I used the hotel's 11th-floor indoor hot spring and had it practically to myself every time; there was hardly anyone else there. The rooftop hot spring was noticeably more crowded, so I preferred the indoor one. We stayed in the annex, and as previous reviews mentioned, there are a few steps between the two buildings. This was a bit inconvenient for check-in and check-out when carrying luggage, but otherwise, it was fine. There's only one restaurant outside the hotel, but you can also order meals within the hotel, which is quite convenient. The scenery outside the hotel is also very beautiful. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay.

Our trip to Japan this time unfortunately coincided with a typhoon, but thankfully we arrived in Izu *after* it had passed. It felt like even a typhoon couldn't spoil our enjoyment! The weather was even better afterward; it was incredibly relaxing to enjoy the sea breeze while admiring the ocean view. Our room was excellent – easily the largest we've stayed in during our trips to Japan. It came with great amenities and was spotlessly clean. Just let the front desk know if you need room cleaning. The public hot spring baths also offered stunning sea views and were separated by gender, providing a good level of privacy. Overall, it was a very satisfying trip, and I would definitely choose to stay at this hotel again next time.

This was my first visit to Izu. I compared several hotels in the area, and the one next door, which boasted a sea view, was literally double the price – frankly, a bit much. This hotel, in comparison, offered the best value for money.

We booked a Japanese-style room with a direct sea view, which was incredibly comfortable. We were also treated to breathtaking scenery.

The hotel facilities were comprehensive, and the cleanliness was excellent – certainly not as 'terrible' as some other reviews had suggested! The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Despite a slight language barrier with the Japanese staff, they generally understood our needs.

On the second floor, besides the front desk, there's a lounge area featuring amenities like a pool table and game consoles – a really nice bonus!

Choosing this hotel for our vacation truly exceeded our expectations. After all, getting great value for money is something Chinese travelers really prioritize!

The room was spotless and had a subtle, pleasant fragrance. Looking out from the room, I was instantly captivated and soothed by the stunning sea view – it was absolutely beautiful! I also enjoyed the hot spring on the 12th floor; not only did it offer a fantastic view, but after soaking, my skin felt wonderfully silky and incredibly relaxed. I ended up booking breakfast for the following day on the spot, and to my surprise, even I, who typically aren't particularly fond of Japanese cuisine, found their dishes incredibly delicious. Overall, it offers excellent value for money, and I'll definitely be back!

A really nice resort hotel. The room was spacious, and the private onsen bath was very clean. The peculiar smell was likely from the tatami mats. We had the hotel's set menu for breakfast but didn't have dinner at the hotel. The supermarket next to Izu Kogen Station offers abundant sashimi, enough to eat your fill. The photos show the places we visited during our stay, and it was all very relaxing.

Having seen some less favorable reviews, let me share my own experience. The hotel's occupancy is highly seasonal, so there might not be many staff members, but they all provided attentive service. During our stay, the station pick-up and drop-off service was always well-arranged. When I'm on vacation, I prefer to relax and not be disturbed, so I opted out of daily room cleaning. I've stayed at some older Japanese-style hotels, similar to those in areas like Shikoku's Oboke, and this level of service is pretty typical. Of course, perhaps I just haven't visited enough Japanese resort hotels to generalize.

Overall, I highly recommend staying here. Don't set your expectations too high, but it delivers on all the essentials for a relaxing getaway.

The room was fantastic, and the view was perfect. While transportation wasn't the most convenient, the Chinese guy at the front desk was very enthusiastic and responsible. All in all, I felt it was a worthwhile trip.
