Breakfast and dinner were both excellent. The explanations were very helpful. I would definitely stay here again

A quiet little town, the waitresses were exceptionally kind. The hot springs were very comfortable; I booked two private baths, and everything was perfect except the water was a bit cold

Day time with the sun glistening on the water and spring foliage blooming made the scene feel like a video game / avatar. But if you stick your head out to see the water, the dinner venue / bridge area can see you naked

The whole experience at this ryokan was magical. Our room with the private onsen was so comfortable and we were lucky enough to get snow on our final morning

But the best part was the service, the guy who attended us during reception, show us the room and explained the dinner was just fantastic. Thank you very much for making us feel welcome!

Sitting in the onsen while it snowed outside is a memory I will be forever grateful for. The food was exceptional and the staff were so attentive and kind

As you stroll along the quiet country road from the train stop to the inn, you are transported back in time and imagine being a merchant, warrior or weary traveler making your way from some faraway town to Edo

The staff, location and surroundings are elegant and beautiful. Be sure to include the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Each meal is locally sourced, very unique, tasty and beautifully presented

Good service and food, also the spa. Very calm place, good space of the room. It is available on all occasions.

A beautiful traditional Onsen ryokan! We had experienced a couple of Onsen ryokans in other big cities in Japan at double the price that are much more ‘resort’ centric

Daisuke, the 3rd generation owner and his wife are GREAT hosts and made our stay memorable. An absolute MUST DO experience. The best deals are usually directly through their website

After the bath, they even served ice cream, so we were treated to the best possible service

Gasthof Ami

A very nice family-run guesthouse, offering a taste of living in a Japanese country villa during the Showa era – well worth it! The breakfast was excellent and very palatable

Excellent, exceeding expectations. The owner was very thoughtful; because of the inconvenient transportation, they would take you to town to buy things when they had time

The room had two air conditioners, which was sufficient for a winter stay. You could see the distant mountains as soon as you woke up. The owner was very kind and talked about his trip to China

So, you have to go to the train station first, then take the right bus. There's a bus stop (number 14) right outside the hotel, but the bus passes by because it's full

Dinner was so filling, we barely made it 😅 We were there during peak season, late October, and to get to the lake, you have to take a bus from the train station

Also, the bus stop is quite close to the hotel; if you need a taxi, you can ask the owner to make a reservation. Overall, it was an unforgettable trip

Chuzenji Pension

We enjoyed very much staying at the pension. It was situated close to the bus station and with beautiful scenery of the lake. The host were very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the dinner very much

A retro 9-room hotel that felt like home. Yummy western-jap breakfast & dinner. They have fixed timings for breakfast & dinner as they need to serve all guests at the same time

You may book the onsen for a one-time private couple use but we felt that the onsen is not as good as those we went in other parts of Japan. We wasn't sure what was the temperature of the water

We had a surprise 6 course fine dinning , breakfast was good too. Love the onsen after our hike. Will definitely recommend to our friends

Private onsen facilities are great though they are not available in the morning. Foods provided are in Western style and they are good, but not that great

Love this small hotel, it's view is facing the lake. Location very near to the bus station. Room is clean bed is traditional bed, quite a big room. Staff is very friendly and helpful

The only thing I missed in the room was tea bags. Otherwise, everything was great. The window opened, and there was a really good breakfast included, which wasn't even mentioned here on Trip. I'd happily come back!

The hotel is great and very convenient, just a two or three-minute walk to the JR station. On the first day, I got bitten by mountain leeches while visiting the World Heritage temple complex

Thankfully, the front desk gave me medicine to apply and bandages to stop the bleeding. I'm very grateful for the hotel's help

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Nikko Station Hotel. Its location was excellent, just a short 5-minute walk from Nikko Station, making it very convenient for exploring the area

The room was comfortable, and I appreciated the thoughtful recommendations provided in the lobby, which were helpful for planning my visit. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and always willing to assist

The hotel was clean, and its location near Tobu Nikko Station was fantastic, about 300 meters if you follow the right navigation

Although the room is an old Japanese hotel, the price is good and affordable

Excellent accomodation! The hotel was next to a beautiful lake (with a beach) where we went swimming at midnight. Afterwards, we hopped into the onsen

It was good value for the price, but the portions are small.

My hotel room was very basic, but quite nice and as expected judging on how affordable it was to stay here. The room was clean, and had everything I needed; clean white sheets, covers, mats, robes, slippers, etc

My stay here was quite lovely! The people and the staff were so helpful, very polite, and efficient. Check-in was really efficient and smooth. The moment I said my name, the keys to my hotel room were ready

There is a small scenic hiking trail around this lake you can explore. The location is absolutely wonderful. The hotel itself was very comfortable. We enjoyed the small gift shop and the treats
