Where to stay in Beppu

Wow, what a great place. It's a hot spring hotel with traditional Japanese rooms that are comfortable and spotless. There are no attached bathrooms as you are meant to use the hotel spring and showers on the ground floor. The decor is lovely with hardwood polished floors and inspiring decorations. Excellent value. Walking distance to all the nearby onsen, and it has a free tattoo friendly Onsen for guests. Paid ¥1600 for a tent in an air-conditioned room. You get a nice comfy futon setup and linens are starchy clean.

We had a great time at matsukiso! First we stayed in one of the indoor camping tents where we had a much better night than we thought we would have( the room has two big aircons and also a window you can open) Upon arrival we were welcomed very kindly by the owner/manager. I used this hotel for one night with a friend during a trip to Kyushu. I can honestly say that the accommodations exceeded my expectations. Some parts of the hotel look old if you look closely, but it is excellent value for money. The hot spring was achiatic and very pleasant. 1. This is a capsule hotel, with individual wooden partitioned rooms. 2. You access it by card, and shoe lockers are at the entrance; you enter wearing slippers. 3. I stayed on November 26th and 27th in winter. The heating was on full blast, so it wasn't cold at all. 4. 24-hour front desk service. 5. There's a large public bath, and you shower directly in the public bath area.

It is a good place to stay if you just need a bed to sleep, there is basically no space to hang out but your capsule. However considering the price I’ve got no complaints :) Also it was already mentioned in other reviews but you can’t shower anywhere if it is not the onsen they’ve got and if you have tattoos, it is not an option either.

The hotel lobby is not on the ground floor and has to be accessed using the elevator (which was slightly confusing). However there’s an onsen that can be accessed on the same floor with the lobby. It was not too busy so I was able to have the place to myself.

We loved the Japanese style room with tatami mats, incredibly spacious room, amazing Japanese breakfast included in (low) price, great location that was walking distanc to Hyotan Onsen and the Beppu Jigoku (Hells of Beppu). The location is great. There is one sink and one toilet. The bath in the building uses regular boiled water, they explained, and they gave me information about a nearby public hot spring.

The location is good for sightseeing in Hell, and there are many hot springs to drop by. The owner gave us a handmade map, so we could enjoy the hot springs in the morning and at night by looking at it. I stayed in a dormitory, but I happened to be the only woman there, so it was spacious and comfortable.

Beppu is a famous hot spring resort, but the main purpose of this trip was not to go there, but to take part in the Sunflower Casual Cruise, an event that runs around the Seto Inland Sea during the day. I often heard people talking loudly at night and early in the morning, which was unpleasant. I felt the bathroom was not cleaned very well. I thought that having only one bathroom might be an issue when it was crowded.
