Capsule Hotel New Gloria in Beppu

1. This is a capsule hotel, with individual wooden partitioned rooms.
2. You access it by card, and shoe lockers are at the entrance; you enter wearing slippers.
3. I stayed on November 26th and 27th in winter. The heating was on full blast, so it wasn't cold at all.
4. 24-hour front desk service.
5. There's a large public bath, and you shower directly in the public bath area.

It is a good place to stay if you just need a bed to sleep, there is basically no space to hang out but your capsule. However considering the price I’ve got no complaints :) Also it was already mentioned in other reviews but you can’t shower anywhere if it is not the onsen they’ve got and if you have tattoos, it is not an option either.

The hotel lobby is not on the ground floor and has to be accessed using the elevator (which was slightly confusing). However there’s an onsen that can be accessed on the same floor with the lobby. It was not too busy so I was able to have the place to myself.

The 6th floor houses the guest accommodation. Guests are required to remove their shoes upon entry, and each person is provided with a key-locked shoe locker. Upon check-in, guests receive a key wristband and a room card, both used to access the sleeping quarters. At the end of the hallway in the sleeping area, there are four capsule beds, with the rest being individual rooms.

Adjacent to this is a changing room, where each guest has a key-locked locker containing a towel and a set of pajamas (top and bottoms). The neighboring restroom is very clean; it's thoughtfully designed with a vanity area outside and the actual toilet stalls inside. This layout helps minimize flushing noise, preventing disturbance to others. Foaming hand soap (also suitable for face washing) and paper towels are supplied.

The 3rd floor is the bathing area; shoes must be removed before entering. Guests can enjoy complimentary use of the communal baths and natural hot springs for up to two hours. The hot spring is named 'Tengu-no-Yu,' with separate sections for men and women. The women's hot spring area features, from left to right, a low-temperature bath, a high-temperature bath, and a *mizuburo* (a cold plunge pool, though the reviewer found it to be ordinary warm water). A sauna is also available (I only lasted a few seconds, worried my glasses couldn't withstand the heat).

Complimentary earplugs are available at the front desk, but the accommodation area was very quiet regardless. Overall, it's a compact place that offers all the essentials. At this price point, getting free access to natural hot springs in a major spa destination like Beppu is an incredible deal. Its location, just 400 meters from Beppu Station, adds to its already fantastic value.

It's decent. For a single guy just needing a place to crash for one night, it's totally fine. There's more than enough room to sleep. It might get a bit noisy, though, as it has a semi-open design.

The locker is just beside the public bath which is at the 3rd floor but the rooms are at the 4th floor.
Overall is good

The capsule was clean and very well-located, less than a 10-minute walk from Beppu Station and just 5 minutes from Takegawara Onsen, where you can enjoy a unique sand bath!

The on-site onsen with a sauna, which is included in the price, was a fantastic amenity.

Just one thing to note: there are no showers on the capsule floor, so you'll need to use the facilities within the onsen area.
