Chubu region, Iiyama, Madarao kogen 11492-321 🧭 Map
Stayed here for three days for skiing. The hotel facilities are old and the rooms are not big, but the ski resort is good.
Good location. Nice onsen. Overall it is still the most ideal hotel in Madarao
Although it is the official hotel of the ski resort, it does not located in a best "ski in ski out" place, you literally need to take a very slow chairlift to come back hotel after you finish the run in the main area at the end of the day
The hotel is right next to the Banwei Plateau Ski Resort, a ski in and out ski resort. There are many restaurants and bars near the hotel, which is very suitable for friends or families to come and play
This place is fantastic for skiing at Madarao Mountain!
It's right on top of the mountain, so you wake up to the beautiful view and ski down first thing in the morning.
The room view is also amazing!
There are also parking spaces outside the hotel for self-driving people, which is also very convenient for self-driving tours

She went out to her way to ensure that we had a great time. The other staff members were the same, friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. The hot indoor/outdoor bath was so good after a day in the snow
Breakfast & dinner were excellent. Kids play areas off the dining. Bar staff always available for a drink & great coffee in the morning
There are a few great places to eat near by but we found eating in was just too good. The karaage chicken was still the best we’ve ever had! The onsite onsen was amazing! Outdoors, surrounded by snow
It’s taken me too long to write this review but I couldn’t not! This was our first trip to Japan & certainly won’t be our last. I booked this hotel based on reviews & they lived up to them all
The location is great, only a short walk to lifts, the food was excellent & Lisa went above & beyond as a host. As a family of 4 we stayed in the family room. Plenty of room, very comfortable beds & pillows
I have already rated this property.
We could not have had a better stay. The room was spotless the staff were fantastic and the amenities very adequate.

Chubu region, Iiyama, 11492-233 Madarao Kogen 🧭 Map
This hotel run by married Japanese couples, provided good service, including transportation to and from the ski area.
Also, they provided additional service for breakfast and dinner that are both delicious!
The price was excellent and included three meals a day (including a packed bento box for the trail). Accommodation was simple, but clean and comfortable
They are close to the lifts and will drive you there. The nearest town Iiyama has a Shinkansen stop, and they will pick you up and drop you off. 30pm and got to Iiyama around 8pm, so we didn’t have to stay anywhere else
They know the trail well, so we’re able to suggest a sensible order to walk sections 1-6 to take into account our energy levels. They had already obtained the trail book and maps in advance which we bought from them
We stayed here 10 nights to hike the shin etsu trail. It was recommended by another operator. It’s a fantastic place to stay. Great food (and plenty of it), really reasonable price, comfortable beds, etc
It was a wonderful experience for us and the only way we’d practically be able to do the trail which you can’t do by public transport. It’d also be a great place to stay in winter for skiing

Additionally, we left a very meaningful personal item at the hotel. The staff was so incredibly kind to find the missing item and mail it to us. It meant the world to us that they went to so much trouble
Ski lodge situated at the top of Nozawa Onsen village. The lodge comprises a dry room, lobby, dining room and TV area on the first floor. All guest rooms are on the second floor
Rooms come with breakfast and the hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the gondola, into the village and pick up and drop off for check in and check out. The rooms are spacious with luggage and hanging space
Location is great between the courtesy bus and local shuttle buses it makes easy to get around
I personally found everyone extremely helpful as I was injured in this trip and they have really gone out of their way to assist me! Spacious common area to play a family game or have a drink together

Really good ski resort with lovely small village. It is a calm and relaxed place probably not the best for partying. Ski resort has some really nice and runs.
The rooms : we had five beds with a mix of Japanese and very comfortable western style mattresses with comfy pillows. Breakfast : amazing and changed every day. Snowboarding : well!!! Amazing
Friendly staff. Good facilities and close walk to lifts.
Central apartments staff so friendly Jess was lovley could not do enough for you. Very clean great location to ski feild restaurants. Starter pack for breakfast was a nice touch eggs bread cearl
Special thanks to Saki , Akira and the rest of the polite and attentive staff for making our trip unforgettable. For dinner or lunch I’d strongly suggest “sparina” (the paid onsen)
Villa Nozawa was a really great place to stay for the few days we were there. Prices are cheap when considering there are ski lift packages, and rooms are a very comfortable size

Very good location. Just a few steps from the bus stop. The lodging is reasonable for its price too. The food is also good if u do not want to eat dinner outside.
The Japanese-style room is about 10 tatami mats in size, and the sink and toilet are shared, so I don't think young people would stay there. It was a Showa-era retro inn with an image similar to a guesthouse
The free-flowing hot spring in the indoor bath was too hot to get in. I went to the outdoor bath, Oyu, in the morning, but since Nozawa Onsen is a free-flowing bath, the water was too hot and I couldn't get in either
I traveled by car to Matsunoyama and Matsudai to tour the rice terraces. There were no business hotels nearby, so I stayed at Ikemoto in Nozawa Onsen. 9,800 yen for a room only is a bit pricey
I guess Nozawa Onsen is a hot spring inn that caters to group ski and snowboard tourists in the winter, so it's viable as a hot spring inn

We made good use of the gym and private baths downstairs
Another highlight was Hardings Cafe in the hotel lobby downstairs… excellent coffee, great breakfast / lunch menu… and they also do a tapas dinner on certain nights which you shouldn’t miss
There are private onsens onsite, but there is a really great free public onsen right next door which we found great fun and a chance to interact with some of the locals (and if you have been to Nozawa before you will know that there are plenty of free onsens dotted through the village)
Overall, an excellent hotel/apartment complex. Be sure to check out Nozawa outside of winter as well - there are some excellent walks and it has a super chilled vice
The kitchen sink is out of this world and the cooking range won’t look out of place in a space shuttle. One of the managers, John Claude, deserves a special mention for excellent service
The restaurant downstairs, "Hardings" is run by a Australian/Japanese couple who do outstanding food, the breakfast is really great, so too the pastries, sausage rolls and pies (just on the off chance you may need some 'western comfort' food)

Very impressed, everything was prepared in the room, and there were also things provided, very good value.
The onsen within the hotel is very nice with good facilities, and the staff are very helpful. Not too far a walk to either ski slope and just off the main street in town
We stayed 2 nights in this hotel and had a fantastic time. Great location, right in the center of town and 3 minutes from the bus station. Very clean, confortable beds, and the onsen is perfect too
Great location, just off the main road. About 10 mins walk to travelator. We stored rental skis and boots at rental shop at top of travelator. We had a western room with 6 beds and kitchen
An amazing little place to stay, absolutely loved it. The rooms were spacious and well decorated - you could easily live in them. Breakfast materials provided were substantial
The TV also had and Apple TV box that allowed me to surf the net and watch a lot of things. The hotel is 3m from the bus stop and 7mins from the slopes

You can book a ski shuttle to take you to the gondola terminals and they run every 20 minutes from 8. To get a place on the early shuttles you need to book by 7. 30 am the morning before (especially on powder days)
First thing to say is the service is excellent and makes up for the slightly rundown and older elements of the hotel. Our room was authentic, spacious and functional for a ski holiday
The breakfast was simple and changed slightly every day for some variety. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. I guess that might vary from season to season but it really made a difference to our stay
It was certainly spacious with a modern shower and separate washroom and separate toilet. The room had a heater which also acted as a drier with a very convenient hanging rack situated above the heater
The room also had coffee and tea making facilities and a small bar fridge. The room also was supplied with plenty of extra futon mattresses for those that like a little more padding
In terms of location it was a 7 minute walk from Chou Terminal the main bus terminal, 5 minutes from the centre of town and around 5-10 minutes to the two gondolas

Best hotel ever, highly recommend to all friends, especially for the families with kids, child friendly!
The buffet breakfast is really good and dinner was exceptional with many courses and changing everyday
The dinners were incredibly generous every night. The room temperature was just right, heated by AC but never cold. The staff were very welcoming and helpful

Staff were so helpful regarding any of our requests including recommendations and organising ongoing luggage delivery. We would return in a heartbeat
They stayed on a Sunday night, so when they tried to order breakfast for Monday, the cafe was unfortunately closed. The morning market wasn't open either, of course
Our premium 2-bedroom apartment was everything we'd hoped for and more. Spacious, well appointed, clean and inviting. The wood chip fire was amazing
This hotel was excellent in all aspects: value for money, location, service, and cleanliness. Nozawa Onsen has many outdoor baths, so all you need is a place to stay with a clean and comfortable shower
Location was as a good as I have had in Nozowa - right in the heart of the village overlooking prime Noz attractions
The welcome provisions were such a lovely touch and really set the tone of the whole Tanuki experience (cafe, coffee shop and restaurant). Location was easy to access the moving footpath to the slopes

Out first time as Canadians in Japan with a family of 4 (two teens). Nozawa was recommended to us by a friend who lived there for awhile
Staying in a traditional ryokan was one of the best decisions we made on our holiday. We were treated like members of the family by Ko and the staff the entire time
I suspect that many ryokans in the area provide similar services, but I can say we all loved this place. The food was excellent and had enough variety of everyone in our family from adventurous to picky eaters
The location is good with a short 5 minute walk to the main part of town and a 5 minute walk to the moving walkway to the base of the mountain
What's your time worth? Kiriya's location in town is perfect. Everything in the entire town is walkable. There are many food stops nearby to try. I recommend the small izakaya right on the street down from Kiriaya

Their outdoor onsen is beautiful during snow. But the place is old but well maintained. And for me, unlike other reviews, nobody offered me transport to the monkey park, they said no staff
The hosts were extremely polite and welcoming. They explained all the house rules in detail and kindly recommended great places to eat nearby
The place was spotless, warm, and very comfortable for an overnight stay with my husband and our two kids. We would definitely come back
This place was a very cute, homely, with a family owned ryokan vibe. We had a nice spacious room, the biggest we had in our whole trip to Japan, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains
We would have loved to stay longer, but we had to return to Tokyo right away to catch our flight

The breakfast was also very good, and the room was sizeable. This was our favourite stay in Japan
Tawaraya is a very nice Ryokan and Onsen in the small town of Yudanaka. While not very distinctive from the outside, the interior is very quaint
There are both a male and female only indoor onsen where you can shower and bathe from 1600 - 0900 daily. In addition there is a beautiful outdoor onsen surrounded by rocks and a Japanese garden
The temperature of the onsen is perfect. Hot enough to be comfortable, but not too hot so you can't stay in! There are also slightly cooler sections of the pool or areas to sit partly out of the water if desired
Go down the hill to the SE 1 block, turn right at the first traffic light at the bottom and then 2 blocks to find it on the right. There is the name in English on the door. The staff also speak English
, plus an additional hot-pot you use to cook an additional dish provided. Very yummy and filling (and I'm not usually a fan of Japanese breakfasts - but each one we had was different and satisfying)

The facilities are a bit old, and the public bath's hygiene was just so-so. The location is good, but dinner was also mediocre.
The room was very large and comfortable. What made the place great was the ping pong table, mini pool table. Once you understand the onsen process it is pretty easy. Note: restaurant is by reservation only
We really enjoyed the ryokan; we stayed for one night. The dinner buffet was particularly great, with crabs, fish, hot pot, beer, and sake. Breakfast was also quite good
It's also possible to extend your stay for 1000 yen per hour, which is super convenient when traveling with a child. The hotel corridors aren't perfectly clean due to age, but the room itself is clean and pleasant

Great onsen and dinner
The room shows some age but it’s comfortable. The public onsen is very good with an indoor pool and an outdoor one for both men’s and women’s spas. We have the half board option with our room
The onsen was extremely hot and had an absolutely gorgeous view. The older couple that runs it were incredibly kind and hospitable to me, including a shuttle to the Monkeg Park and Yamanaka Station free of charge

Exactly what you would expect. Tatami mat rooms with shoji doors. Dimly lit halls with wood floors, steep staircases and dusty old mementos on display. The halls and any room without a hearer were incredibly cold
Excellent Ryokan located in the center of Shibu Onsen, right at the bus stop. The hotel is very typical and traditional, run by the Takimoto family. The private Onsen are excellent and very well maintained
Has to keep the heater on in our room all night it was so cold and zero insulation—again exactly what is expected in a place like this

Air conditioning was very effective considering the size of the room and the breakfast was too much to finish and offered a taste of everything
Lastly you are on top of the onsens as soon as you step out and monkey park is a 25 minute walk north but talk with the Owner, she has a link to the Monkey security cameras so can tell you ahead of time if theres...
The Yumoto Ryokan is great for a stop to relax a bit. One gets access to the 9 Onsen in the village and can take a dip in every one, or take a small hike to see the Japanese macaques that like to relax in an Onsen
Best part is the private onsen. Pick up the key for private onsen from reception if it’s there and use for up to 30 mins at a time. Go back again as much as you like

Awesome location for visiting Jigokudani Park (snow monkeys in hot springs) but otherwise isolated. The room was very spacious, especially considering i was a solo traveler
Finally, while this is close to shibu onsen, it is not part of it and shibu onsen is about a 30 min walk away and you don't have access to the public baths there (to do the 9 bath crawl)
The private onsen attached to the room was unexpected and must appreciated. The food was the highlight of my 2 night stay
Also the building is pretty old with commensurate insulation so i was pretty cold all the time except for when i was cozy in my futon or in the onsen (and for about 30 mins after)
I'd been to other food forward ryokans elsewhere before and while they were fancier, the food at Jinpyokaku Honten was better or maybe just more suited to my tastes

The hotel room was much bigger than expected. The service was excellent and the Japanese breakfast was most tasty
Perfect place to stay!
Location is really good, it’s easy close to the snow monkey park and bus station. Hotel is beautiful and authentic. Breakfast and dinner were amazing
The private onsen wasn't as good as the public bath! Also, there was no shuttle to Yu no Kuni after 12 PM

The downside is that the bathroom is brand new, but my room smelled a bit like horse manure. In summary, although it is deep in the mountains, it is comfortable and good to live in
We had a great stay at the Okushiga Phoenix Hotel. The Italian dinner was simply perfect, the onsen was wonderful and relaxing, and the staff were consistently friendly and professional.
It was in good business condition. I booked a top-floor room with an area of 42 square meters. It was sunny and had a mountain view. The room pictures had not been updated, but it had actually been renovated

So we spent 5 days in this hotel & loved it. We enjoyed an empty hotel, zero queues, excellent snow. 90 minutes by bullet train from Tokyo and then 90 minutes by bus. The hotel is truly ski in & sort of ski out
Spend the w/e’s in Tokyo and on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning take a bullet train to one of the 100 to 200 ski resorts by bullet train 2 hours outside Tokyo and you will have the place to ourselves
I found the ski rentals good enough for an advanced skier. Pleasingly the hotel provides good ski lockers so of a morning it’s easy to gear up & ski out to get on a lift. I have no complaints about the hotel
A Japanese Australian gave me excellent advice
For instance: First, There is a ski mat in the beginners area but they never turned it on! After watching my novice partner spend 45 minutes of the first hour trudging up a gently slope with her ski instructor to learn how to do “pizza skis” down I asked why it wasn’t working
Secondly, from the bottom of Okushiga Kogen you cannot ski from the beginners lift to the other more advanced lift even though it’s downhill! You have to trudge across a flat & up a small slope because of the way they have roped off the areas

The stay was absolutely comfortable. Good onsen and nice breakfast. Bedding was solid as well. The friendly staffs also assisted with restaurantsreservations too.
The hotel is also not far from the ski resort, about a 10-minute drive away. Overall, the hotel offers excellent value for money

Kaiseki is fine, and the quality is excellent, suitable for Chinese palates. The special kaiseki I chose for an additional fee the next day was terrible, with a heavy sugary sauce that made it unpleasant
The room also had a slight odor due to the high humidity, which exposed the room's shortcomings without the beautiful view. The air conditioner was too loud, and the toilet was difficult to flush
The buffet has a wide variety of dishes and good taste, while the set menu is average, but the view is beautiful. I booked a room with breakfast and dinner included. Dinner was served at Shirakaba
Aqua Dining is located in the Premium Building, with windows on three sides, offering a fantastic view. The food, both the white corn and scallop appetizer and the wagyu steak main course, exceeded my expectations
It takes over five hours by car, but when I arrived and took in the views from the lobby, my room, the Aqua Terrace, and the open-air bath, I thought, "Akakura Kanko Hotel is truly amazing
This is my favorite hotel, and I think my July stay was my 10th. Because it's far from Tokyo, I usually stay here once or twice a year, but this year I stayed back in June and July

The hotel has Onsen, a very good facility. The hotel is very close to the Akakura Onsen Ski Area and within walking distance, only 8 minutes walk
The exterior looks old and dull, but the interior is in good condition, and the lobby is spacious and bright, with a panoramic view of Mt
We visited the onsen after every day of skiing as well! Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful, but Mizuki stood out in her customer service abilities. She should be the customer service manager
We were always greeted with a smile. She helped with our check-in, coordinated our transfer to the train station, helped with dinner reservations, lift ticlets & gave lots of great recommendations
The pancakes were delicious! Mizuki at the front desk of hotel Taiko went above & beyond to ensure that we were happy throughout our stay. Every interaction with her was warm and welcoming
This traditional Japanese onsen hotel is perfectly located an 8 min walk to the closest ski lift & right by the main street. Breakfast had both Japanese & Westrn options

Good location, but small and old room. Overall still quite good. Recommended for ski in ski out
My ski pants broke on the trip and we went to so many different shops in shigakogen but only found 2 shops that sold a very limited selection of ski pants - Restaurant St Christophe (at Okushiga) and Snowcan Ichinose Diamond shop
service and environment is good, however too expensive, i would expect better facilities for this price
Ski gears quality are quite good in hotel rental shop. Room is small if u choose the cheapest type of room
Another thing was that we had the room at the end of the corridor which the furthest away from the lift- it was a long walk to the lift, around 100m. It’s better to request for a room near the lifts (lifts are not noisy)
Breakfast and dinner buffets were pretty decent - there was a wide variety of foods to choose from. The west building was conveniently located near two chairlifts and we could head to different ski areas easily

Kogakuro Onsen was one of the best hotel experiences I have had
The best was the fluffy thick pancakes with the lightest of whipped cream - get in early for them! And at the end of the day - the hot mineral spring Onsen
Located close to the main street of Myoko, Kogakuro has the perfect mix of sophisticated customer-centric service and warm inviting generous cultural hospitality
Mieko and the team were wonderful and make your trip easy and very special. The rooms were spacious with delightfully simple Japanese furnishings
Super relaxing while the minerals work their magic on muscles and joints. Not to mention the added bonus of soft skin after
Breakfast was everything you need for a day of skiing - a wide choice of Asian, European and US style food

Kaz and his wife are amazing hosts. Everything was excellent!! Going back next jan without a doubt.
Fantastic place, they looked after us very well and location was great — ski in and ski out.
Kazu's mum's homemade blueberry and apple conserve are to-die for! Lovely sitting by the fire at night after a long day on the slopes. Good sized rooms with comfy beds
If anyone wonders, Booking dot com currently has little reviews because they removed this listing due to inactivity on their site (Covid! Foreigners couldnt enter JP but they were running via local booking sites)
You probably won't regret staying here^^
they even picked us up in the middle of the night when our car got stuck in the snow! Very authentic breakfast is served in the morning, and they offer a discount ski ticket and lunch voucher redeemable on the mountain
If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, this is the place to be. This lodge has been in operations for over 40 years. Kaz and Moko, the hosts, are amazing. They're very kind, helpful and hospitable

The room is big. The service is good. Dinner is ready when you come back from skiing.
You need to book breakfast and dinner! Otherwise there is nowhere to eat, the hotel's dinner is very good! I went skiing specifically, right in front of the Ichinose Snow Resort, the location is great! The hotel has history!
The good thing is that the dinner is very rich. The dishes are changed every day. The taste is satisfactory but the quantity is large
The location of the hotel is very good, ski in and ski out of the ski resort
What I am not satisfied with is the breakfast, which is too American. There is nothing to eat, and there is no food after 8:15. I stayed for several days and the bacon was gone every time
It is very convenient to ski, ski-in, ski-out, and rent skis. Although the quality of the skis is average, the price is affordable. You can exchange ski tickets across the street
