Villa Monrepos in Myoko

...I debated writing a review in case I am not able to easily make reservations here in the future.

Very convenient from Tokyo station!! (Tokyo to Nagano station via Shinkansen > Nagano station to Myoko kogen via local train).

The family-run accommodation is on Akakura Kanko slopes, easy to stop by for a rest anytime. Coffee, lunch or dinner (dinners need to be reserved by AM as owner will go out and buy fresh produce in the afternoon for dinner). I noticed Kanko side has more locals than Akakura onsen 🎿🏂
By the way, owner is able to provide a cheaper 1/2 day ski lift ticket versus buying directly, for Kanko side.

They've a dog, Mame chan, that guests can interact with by asking the owner.

The bedrooms are good-sized and comfy, with drying area for snow equipment. They recently renovated a couple of years ago so older reviews may not be updated. The private baths are working fine now.
The fireplace is awesome and guests here are friendly, and there is a homey feel.

Sano san (owner) is very attentive and kind (too kind sometimes!!) and does his best to support guests. He knows everyone in Akakura town and is good guide. From town, the walk is 15 minutes but if Sano san is free he may provide a lift. He also picked us and sent us to back to Myokokogen station (10 minutes from the lodge). His wife can speak conversational English which helps. I recommend dinners here, very yummy and only 2500 jpy for in-house guests, unsure for walk-ins.

They are open all-year round for various activities (Sakura in spring, the ocean is 30 minutes away). If anyone wonders, Booking dot com currently has little reviews because they removed this listing due to inactivity on their site (Covid! Foreigners couldnt enter JP but they were running via local booking sites)

Kaz and his wife are amazing hosts. Everything was excellent!! Going back next jan without a doubt.

Fantastic place, they looked after us very well and location was great — ski in and ski out.

This has been an amazing experience. The host picked us up from the station to bring us to the beautiful villa. It is a family run lodge and you are treated like family your whole stay. They helped with recommendations, lift passes, meals and lifts into town even know it only a short walk. We couldn't find a lift to our next destination when we were checking out and our host help arrange a transfer as public transport was difficult. The hosts went above and beyond continuously, the villa is lovely and cosy and the food they provide is amazing. We will definitely be comming back. 10/10!

If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, this is the place to be. This lodge has been in operations for over 40 years. Kaz and Moko, the hosts, are amazing. They're very kind, helpful and hospitable. They make us feel at home. Their Nepalese staff, Kaji, has conquered the Everest 4 times enchanted us with amazing stories of the Everest. Food is delicious, (especially the Japanese curry!) Breakfast is a real treat and always beautifully presented. Kazu's mum's homemade blueberry and apple conserve are to-die for! Lovely sitting by the fire at night after a long day on the slopes. Great views too. The lodge is spotless. Good sized rooms with comfy beds. We stayed for 10 nights in both the ensuite special room and family room with separate washrooms. Guests can get discounted lift tickets from the owners. It is about 10-15 minutes walk to the main town area. It isn't just the lodge and location on the slopes that sold us, it is Kaz's warmth and kindness, and his family, that have truly carved a very special place in our hearts. We've had terrific time and will be back!

Amazing place to stay in Myoko. Kazu and the team are so accomodating and a joy to be around. Lovely food and on an unbelievable spot. I would give 6 stars if possible

A very friendly and relaxed hotel! The location is amazing, about 25 meters away from the slope for a true ski-in, ski-out experience. The staff speaks English and are very courteous... they even picked us up in the middle of the night when our car got stuck in the snow! Very authentic breakfast is served in the morning, and they offer a discount ski ticket and lunch voucher redeemable on the mountain. House slippers required, shared guest bathrooms, and plenty of ski/boot storage space and drying rooms. Very reasonable price for being right on the mountain. Awesome experience!
