Takimoto in Yamanouchi

Classic old lower end ryokan. Exactly what you would expect. Tatami mat rooms with shoji doors. Dimly lit halls with wood floors, steep staircases and dusty old mementos on display. The halls and any room without a hearer were incredibly cold. Has to keep the heater on in our room all night it was so cold and zero insulation—again exactly what is expected in a place like this. The bath was old and in need of upgrades but the bathing space was large and the water very hot so a big plus. Parking was accessible. We ate outside snd there are restaurants nearby. After check in we never saw tue staff again until check out and the place felt abandoned. After checkout no staff came out to say goodbye which you normally see in a place like this. No big deal but noteworthy.

Great place to stay if you are looking for a very traditional japan Ryokan, even if the building is old. The owners were super polite and always servicial and open to help.

Excellent Ryokan located in the center of Shibu Onsen, right at the bus stop. The hotel is very typical and traditional, run by the Takimoto family. The private Onsen are excellent and very well maintained. Everything perfect, top welcome and services! We went during the winter with snow and we did not suffer from the cold inside the rooms. Very good and very rich dinner!

It's still good. The room is big. I missed dinner and asked for a long time, but they still made food and put it in the room. Although the B&B does not have a car to pick up, it's still okay. The room also has a private bath

A family-style hot spring hotel, clean and well-managed, with an open-air hot spring. The spa facilities are a bit old and mineral, but the water is very pleasant.

The room was extremely spacious and kept us warm even at -10° outside thanks to extra heaters and cozy futons provided. Our private outdoor onsen was very warm and could be used even during coldest times (you can easily add cooler water if you feel like it is too hot). Lunch and dinner consisted of many many small plates continuously served and prepared with great care, which we enjoyed a lot (even if you don't enjoy every single dish served, you will have enough food). The couple running the ryokan helped us with small requests and was very attentive. Location in the middle of Shibu Onsen is perfect for visiting the Onsens, and it's easy to find transportation to the Snow Monkey Park and Ski resorts. Overall, we've had a great experience, and we were very positively surprised, especially given that our stay was booked last-minute and not very expensive.

Amazing! We had a wonderful time here and I wish we could have stayed one more night. The service is excellent and the food is as well. The baths in the ryokan are beautiful and so nice! Would recommend and would come back!
