Ski in out hotel, bus terminal, very convenience
great location and onsen and everything spot on , also the staff many were training , they try hard
Good location. Nice onsen. Overall it is still the most ideal hotel in Madarao
The hotel is right next to the Banwei Plateau Ski Resort, a ski in and out ski resort. There are many restaurants and bars near the hotel, which is very suitable for friends or families to come and play. There are also parking spaces outside the hotel for self-driving people, which is also very convenient for self-driving tours.
Stayed here for three days for skiing. The hotel facilities are old and the rooms are not big, but the ski resort is good.
This place is fantastic for skiing at Madarao Mountain!
It's right on top of the mountain, so you wake up to the beautiful view and ski down first thing in the morning.
The room view is also amazing!

We stayed at Active Life Madarao for a few nights with our son, daughter-in-law, and their 8 year old twins. What an amazing time. The hotel has a great family "vibe," and Lisa, the manager, could not have been more friendly and accommodating. She went out to her way to ensure that we had a great time. The other staff members were the same, friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. The...
The manager Lisa was amazing and went above and beyond to make our stay amazing! great cooked breakfast and great location.
I have already rated this property.
We could not have had a better stay. The room was spotless the staff were fantastic and the amenities very adequate.
It’s taken me too long to write this review but I couldn’t not! This was our first trip to Japan & certainly won’t be our last. I booked this hotel based on reviews & they lived up to them all. The location is great, only a short walk to lifts, the food was excellent & Lisa went above & beyond as a host. As a family of 4 we stayed in the family room. Plenty of room, very comfortable beds & pillows...
Active life is well situated a short walk to the slopes and the bars and restaurants of Madarao. The standout is the experience that Lisa and her team create. It's a homely place with good size rooms and amenities where you are made to feel extremely welcome and nothing is too much trouble. There's a lovely onsite bar and Matt the barman was super friendly and had a great playlist! Breakfast is good...

The hotel has all the basics, the staff are very friendly and helpful, morning and evening buffet is OK, considered high value for money
The staff had a very good service attitude and provided assistance when an accident occurred. They were happy to help communicate with different local agencies and help follow up on the support services requested by the insurance company.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Silk. The facilities were good and the staff were pleasant. The room was large and there was a courtesy bus to get to the lifts. The Onsen facilities are good and the staff members were very helpful, even though we were limited by the language barrier at times. We would love to come back! :)
I had an enjoyable stay here with my boyfriend for a 5 day/4 night ski trip. Although it's not a ski in ski out hotel, it's close enough to the slopes. There's also a ski rental right next door so it's super convenient. We picked the option that included breakfast, which is traditional Japanese style. Food quality is ok, but can be better. One thing I think the hotel can improve is the beds. They seem...
The breakfast is average, the staff is polite, there are few parking spaces, and there is ski equipment rental next to it. It is half the level of the ski resort, but the ski equipment is slightly worn.

The staff are kind and friendly. The food is delicious!
Amazing home cooked dinners and breakfast; I was very well taken care of by the hosts at the lodge. I felt right at home.
Stayed at this delightful pension with friends for the first three parts of the Shen-Etsu Trail in the summer. Run by a lovely couple who were very obliging to our group. The price was excellent and included three meals a day (including a packed bento box for the trail). Accommodation was simple, but clean and comfortable. The owners drove us to the trail each day and picked us up at the end. After...
This hotel run by married Japanese couples, provided good service, including transportation to and from the ski area.
Also, they provided additional service for breakfast and dinner that are both delicious!
The atmosphere was family-like and nice.
The four days were very nice, and the Sato family was kind and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Ski and snowboard rentals were cheap. The baths were also good. This pension is not new, but the atmosphere was family-like and nice.
We stayed here 10 nights to hike the shin etsu trail. It was recommended by another operator. It’s a fantastic place to stay. Great food (and plenty of it), really reasonable price, comfortable beds, etc. the owners are lovely. If you want to hike the trail, the owner drives you to the start and picks you up at the end of each day. Best time is October. The autumn leaves were fantastic. They know the...

We had a great time at Altitude Nozawa. One of the chair lifts is just next door so it’s very easy to come and go to the mountain. I believe you’d have to still go to the gondola station if you were looking at buying the tickets everyday tho. Our room was spacious and had a private bathroom. No fridge or kettle. Boiling water is available in the breakfast room all day. The drying room is phenomenal...
Location is great between the courtesy bus and local shuttle buses it makes easy to get around. I personally found everyone extremely helpful as I was injured in this trip and they have really gone out of their way to assist me! Spacious common area to play a family game or have a drink together. Thank you to the team @Altitude Nozawa
Wonderful place in a perfect location very close to town. The scenery was fantastic.Rooms well heated, great lay out and lounge area - I felt so relaxed there. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Night shuttle bus service and hot brekkie also a huge plus! Absolutely recommend. Thank you Altitude!
Hotel staff are mainly Australians, and the guests are also mainly Australians. We felt we were in Australia rather than in Japan! 😀 Hotel served basic western breakfast only. I traveled by car to Matsunoyama and Matsudai to tour the rice terraces. There were no business hotels nearby, so I stayed at Ikemoto in Nozawa Onsen.
9,800 yen for a room only is a bit pricey. The Japanese-style room is about 10 tatami mats in size, and the sink and toilet are shared, so I don't think young people would stay there. It was a Showa-era retro inn with an image similar to a guesthouse...

Nice onsen resort on the mountain. Guests would find the environment relaxing and awesome.
The hotel was very retro, and the entrance wasn't even an automatic lock, so I thought the view would be nice, but it was completely visible.
The inn's hot spring had few amenities and the changing room was extremely cold.
There was no air conditioning, only a fan.
It must be hot in the summer.

The Nozawa View Hotel was a great hotel to stay in Nozawa if you like Japanese style rooms. We stayed in room 309 which was described as a Superior Room. Location was easy to access the moving footpath to the slopes. Staff were so helpful regarding any of our requests...
The accommodation was truly outstanding. The attention to detail in the design of the apartments and in house facilities were exceptional however the reception staff lacked basic training and knowledge which was disappointing.
We had a comfortable spacious room with a view of buildings in the foreground and the mountains with trees changing to autumn colours. It was great having a sitting area with a small table. There are quite a few stairs and no elevator. Everything is impeccably clean. There are free laundry machines to use.
This hotel was excellent in all aspects: value for money, location, service, and cleanliness.
Nozawa Onsen has many outdoor baths, so all you need is a place to stay with a clean and comfortable shower.
I would recommend this hotel not only to Japanese people but also to foreign tourists.
Right in the heart of a truly delightful hot spring town.

Stayed while visiting the snow monkeys. The location was ideal and the food was very good.
While I was there, only one member of staff was manning the front desk as well undertaking other responsibilities around the hotel, but a phone was left at the front desk so you could call when you needed assistance. The reality exceeded my expectations; the hotel was even better than I imagined. The room was very comfortable for a family with a small child! There's a private hot spring for families available by reservation, though the usage time is a bit short, it's still great overall! The food is high-quality, delicious, and varied. We really enjoyed the ryokan; we stayed for one night. The dinner buffet was particularly great, with crabs, fish, hot pot, beer, and sake. Breakfast was also quite good. The rooms were standard. There's an onsen, and we booked a 30-minute slot and went right away. I didn't get a chance to visit the public baths.
I was there for a ski trip, and the hotel's location was quite convenient for driving.
However, I stayed at this hotel for 8 nights, and I found it incredibly hard to understand why the breakfast and dinner were exactly the same every single night, with no variation or novelty whatsoever.
The hotel facilities are very old. The outdoor onsen for showering was extremely cold, to the point of being unbearable...
The facilities are a bit old, and the public bath's hygiene was just so-so. The location is good, but dinner was also mediocre.

Great place to stay if you are looking for a very traditional japan Ryokan, even if the building is old. The owners were super polite and always servicial and open to help.
Excellent Ryokan located in the center of Shibu Onsen, right at the bus stop. The hotel is very typical and traditional, run by the Takimoto family. The private Onsen are excellent and very well maintained. Everything perfect, top welcome and services! We went during the winter with snow and we did not suffer from the cold inside the rooms. Worth every penny, beside the awesome amenities I was led to expect from description, the staff was also extremely welcoming and went the extra mile - the proprietess even drove us to the train station in the morning.
Really lovely location. Best part is the private onsen. Pick up the key for private onsen from reception if it’s there and use for up to 30 mins at a time. Go back again as much as you like. It’s a really really hot spring, but there’s a cold water tap and it’s really tranquil and pretty.
We had a fabulous stay. The staff were incredibly welcoming and incredibly accommodating of our young family. The private onsen was absolutely dreamy. We particularly enjoyed the traditional breakfast and thoughtful touches such as tea on arrival.
I genuinely cannot recommend this place more! If you’re thinking about staying in the town to try all the hot springs , or traveling to see the snow monkeys this by far is the best Ryokan in town! Without a shadow of a doubt. If you’re going to stay anywhere in town, choose Yumoto Ryokan! It’s so dam easy to get to aswell as it’s at the center of the town and it’s so homely and pretty.
The family...
The public bathhouse was broken, so we couldn't shower at all, which was terrible. We had to resort to soaking in the private hot spring instead. The private hot spring had a queue, and guests needed to make reservations for each room. It was very inconvenient; we didn't get in until 11 PM. I think I read in previous reviews that it had been broken for a long time, and it's strange that it hasn't been...

Fantastic authentic Ryokan with lovely outdoor Onsen. Drop and collect you from any nearby ski field in Myoko. I would return here. I left my kindle behind and am struggling to get in contact to get it back please! Have tried email and phone. Please reach me on sophwestgarth@gmail.com or WhatsApp +64276880505, would really appreciate it!
Very clean. Older but charming. Exactly what I wanted. Delicious restaurant on site to use if you get snowed in or just want a fantastic meal. Onsen was also great.
Very old ryokan, even the wallpaper fell off here and there, but feels quite original and ancient, the onsen too, I wouldn’t rate it as a super good stay, but for the price, I would say it is quite worth it
Myoko Onsen, where Kofukan is located, has many abandoned hotels and buildings, and only one restaurant was open. It's easily accessible, just a ten-minute walk from Myoko Kogen Station, and the hot spring water is gentle on the skin, so I'd like to return.
Come here for the best experience. So cozy. Small mountain town. It’s not the four seasons, it’s much better. Family owned. Lowkey. Come and enjoy yourself.
Absolutely amazing stay! The onsen is incredible. The room with a mountain view was fabulous. So quiet! Incredible dining options a few blocks away. Just wow. The 4th generation owners are the kindest hosts. The free shuttles to ski and to the train station are so convenient. You are lucky to stay here.

The hotel room was much bigger than expected. The service was excellent and the Japanese breakfast was most tasty. Being so close to the Snow Monkey Park also helped a lot - after spending the day in the cold, it was nice to return to the hotel and warm up.
Going to the monkey park, the hotel offers discounted tickets and free long boot rentals.
This is the best hotel for visiting Jigokudani Monkey Park; you can walk there easily. The facilities are a bit dated, but considering I've stayed here multiple times across two generations, it maintains a certain standard. Plus, there's a fantastic indoor heated pool. I've stayed here twice already.
The shuttle service was super convenient, and the location right at the entrance of the Wild Monkey Park is unbeatable. The service was exceptional, and both breakfast and dinner were incredibly generous. So many positives, it's perfect for a short stay.
Exceptional service from staff. Convenient to walk to snow monkey park. Appreciate the shuttle to & from train station
A very Japanese-style hotel with a well-designed room and a terrace offering lovely garden views. Dinner was just okay, but breakfast was quite generous. The private onsen wasn't as good as the public bath! Also, there was no shuttle to Yu no Kuni after 12 PM.

A Japanese Australian gave me excellent advice. Spend the w/e’s in Tokyo and on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning take a bullet train to one of the 100 to 200 ski resorts by bullet train 2 hours outside Tokyo and you will have the place to ourselves. So we spent 5 days in this hotel & loved it. We enjoyed an empty hotel, zero queues, excellent snow. 90 minutes by bullet train from Tokyo and...
Mostly good experience. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The French restaurant was delicious. And it was great that there was a ski rental and storage right inside the hotel. Added to that, the convenience of skiing right to the lift is heavenly. The bar/ lounge was chill and cozy. However it either seemed there was a shortage of staff, mostly new staff, or both. The mandatory dinner...
This is my second visit. The hotel is stylish with three decent fine dining restaurants, of teppan, French and Japanese. The wine list is very extensive with lot of Bordeaux and Burgundy wine. The staff are very helpful, especially Yuka who is smart and helpful to reserve the dinner for us though we were late to the hotel. This year, we stay in the new wing and the double room is clean, spacious with...
Good service, room facilities are a bit old
It's the serenity of the location, waking up to fluffy snow falling and the snow filled trees and mountains seemingly right outside your window. Due to being at the end of the line for the ski resorts at Shiga Kogen it has it's advantages and this is one of them. You get first snow as everyone else on the mountain takes their time to get over to Okushiga. Hotel staff are great, you get to know...
Third time at this hotel and it’s still the Best. Ski in ski out fireplace pianist recital every night. Great food in the Japanese restaurant and okay in the French restaurant. Worth getting the better than average rooms and pay a Yen more. Special commendation to the Reception Desk staff and especially Yoshi-san. Yoshi-san provides impeccable, comprehensive and most importantly friendly service...

Really clean and the service is excellent! The hotel is also very kids friendly.
Great location with superb views from the room window. The breakfast and dinner buffet spreads were excellent. Although there is no private shower in the room, the shared shower facilities were clean and well maintained.
Prime hotel that has premium facilities, rooms, onsen and service. The hotel provides shuttle to various ski resorts in the Myoko region and has a good breakfast buffet. The buffet dinner is not very good and relatively over priced for what was served.
The stay was absolutely comfortable. Good onsen and nice breakfast. Bedding was solid as well. The friendly staffs also assisted with restaurantsreservations too.
The rooms were spacious; we booked one Western-style and one Japanese-style room. The hotel's public bath was also very comfortable, and it wasn't crowded during our stay, making it a wonderful place to soak after skiing. The hotel is also not far from the ski resort, about a 10-minute drive away. Overall, the hotel offers excellent value for money.
Nice resort with spacious room and has basic facilities that are well maintained. Staff are all helpful and friendly. Will recommend to friends and family who wish to visit Myoko.

Nice location very near to Onsen street, convenient to restaurants and everything
The hotel has Onsen, a very good facility. The hotel is very close to the Akakura Onsen Ski Area and within walking distance, only 8 minutes walk
This traditional Japanese onsen hotel is perfectly located an 8 min walk to the closest ski lift & right by the main street. Breakfast had both Japanese & Westrn options. The pancakes were delicious! Mizuki at the front desk of hotel Taiko went above & beyond to ensure that we were happy throughout our stay. Every interaction with her was warm and welcoming. We were always greeted with a smile....
Hotel in a small village you can't ask for too much dude
The exterior looks old and dull, but the interior is in good condition, and the lobby is spacious and bright, with a panoramic view of Mt. Madarao. The room was a modern Japanese-style room with 10 tatami mats, but there were chairs by the window that could seat four people, so the two of us could have a relaxing time. The hot springs are spacious and have a great view. Dinner was kaiseki style and...

Hotel is perfect location to walk to food and the mountain. The onsen is well maintained and hardly anyone there. Breakfast is everything you could want with amazing service and smiles. However the most important part of this place is the staff… All so kind, bright and going above and beyond to help in any way. I would never stay anywhere else.
Kogakuro Onsen was one of the best hotel experiences I have had. Located close to the main street of Myoko, Kogakuro has the perfect mix of sophisticated customer-centric service and warm inviting generous cultural hospitality. Mieko and the team were wonderful and make your trip easy and very special. The rooms were spacious with delightfully simple Japanese furnishings. Breakfast was everything...
I will definately return to Kogakuro. We had a great holiday in Myoko Kogan and this accomodation had alot to do with it. The hotel is an all round balance for location, great staff culture and comfort. We took 2 rooms with our teenagers in one, at one end of the building and with us at the other end. Our rooms were comfortable, quiet, warm, clean and pleasantly extra spacious with great views and...
Outstanding memorable stay. Onsen is lovely, with delightful amenities. Open overnight, it offers a great respite soak after a long day of ski. It is within a 10min walk to the ski lifts (with 3 kids along) and <5min to main street where everything is. Pacing expectations that this is a traditional older establishment, the rooms were very warm, clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast spread was...
This might be one of my favourite hotels i've ever stayed in. Our family of four (including two adult children) spent a week here and we LOVED it. The highlight is definitely the owner/ manageress Meiko and her amazing...

Kaz and his wife are amazing hosts. Everything was excellent!! Going back next jan without a doubt.
Fantastic place, they looked after us very well and location was great — ski in and ski out.
This has been an amazing experience. The host picked us up from the station to bring us to the beautiful villa. It is a family run lodge and you are treated like family your whole stay. They helped with recommendations, lift passes, meals and lifts into town even know it only a short walk. We couldn't find a lift to our next destination when we were checking out and our host help arrange a transfer...
If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, this is the place to be. This lodge has been in operations for over 40 years. Kaz and Moko, the hosts, are amazing. They're very kind, helpful and hospitable. They make us feel at home. Their Nepalese staff, Kaji, has conquered the Everest 4 times enchanted us with amazing stories of the Everest. Amazing place to stay in Myoko. Kazu and the team are so accomodating and a joy to be around. Lovely food and on an unbelievable spot. I would give 6 stars if possible
...I debated writing a review in case I am not able to easily make reservations here in the future.
Very convenient from Tokyo station!! (Tokyo to Nagano station via Shinkansen > Nagano station to Myoko kogen via local train).

Skiing in Shiga Kogen, you're right on the gondola, hahahaha.
Breakfast and dinner are included, so don't worry, the dinner was delicious.
The only downside was the lack of WiFi in the room.
The room is big. The service is good. Dinner is ready when you come back from skiing.
You need to book breakfast and dinner! Otherwise there is nowhere to eat, the hotel's dinner is very good! I went skiing specifically, right in front of the Ichinose Snow Resort, the location is great! The hotel has history!
It is very convenient to ski, ski-in, ski-out, and rent skis. Although the quality of the skis is average, the price is affordable. You can exchange ski tickets across the street. What I am not satisfied with is the breakfast, which is too American. There is nothing to eat, and there is no food after 8:15. I stayed for several days and the bacon was gone every time. The good thing is that the dinner...
The hotel facilities are relatively old, and the only difference is that it is located next to the Ichinose cable car. The hot spring is only open in the afternoon, and the breakfast is average. It is not recommended.
The impression of this hotel is very special. The old man at the front desk is very friendly. Although we don't speak the language, he still tries to help us solve the problem. The location of the hotel is very good, ski in and ski out of the ski resort.

Just a short walk to the ski lifts and restaurants all just down the road. This place was perfect. Multiple Onsens to relax in. Will stay again.
This hotel is quite old and outdated. It could use a facelift. I would say probably overpriced for what it is.
The rooms are also quite strange - my wife and I’s room was split into 2 across the hall way. One side the tatami / sleeping area, the other side the family room and bathroom. The location is amazing so that’s the only reason I would stay here again, but this hotel is quite old.
The hotel is very close to the ski resort, which is very convenient. Our family of four had a slightly unusual room; the bedroom and living room were separate, but to get to the living room, you had to go outside to a public area, which was a bit inconvenient because you might run into other guests. Therefore, you had to be properly dressed before going out. It felt a little awkward.
The breakfast...
Staff are very kind and helpful, super friendly, love the ppl and the vibe. Breakfast food was good, apple juice is a highlight. the 3 onsens available were nice, ppl could spread out
We stayed as a family, difficult to control the temperature in the room with the heaters being inconsistent, luckily we could move to a different room.
The drying room for gear downstairs did not have a space heater...
The hotel's outlook/renovation is to a point it felt like travel back in the early 80's or in a move set. Even all the details as big as the sofa and as detailed as the mat to put the vase in the room. So if you are looking at an old style japanese place there it is. We booked two rooms for a family of 6 and we love the space- there is a tatami room and also a living room accross which is perfect...
A much older hotel, we had go pay to upgrade our room to a bigger room as there was limited space for ski luggages.

This hotel is right on the slopes! Make sure to book your ski rentals in advance, as you can't rent them on the spot without a reservation. Once reserved, they'll deliver your gear to the hotel's basement, which is super convenient. You can change in the drying room, store your belongings, and have your ski equipment looked after. Very large hotel with very few guests, felt a bit post-apocalyptic. On the plus side, meant always having the onsen to yourself! There are hotels closer to the ski slopes, but still only a 5 minute walk. Rooms were slightly outdated but enjoyed the traditional tatami mat and futon. Very spacious. Best part of our stay was the food! Multiple dishes including hot pot for both breakfast and dinner which...
great japanese breakfast included in our tarriff. The manager went out of his way to assist us with an issue unrelated to the hotel. Great access to Ichinose slopes, which is in t

Breakfast was a superb Kaiseki Japanese style with a few bakery items as well.
Staff were always friendly and helpful.
It was ski-in/ski-out most days depending on the snow cover on the side of a road section about 100m. Location was excellent in the centre of the many Shiga Kogen ski fields.
Rooms were large for Japanese tatami style accommodation.
We ate 3 meals in-house which were Kaiseki style...
The food was delicious, the rooms were clean, and above all, it was a very good hotel where kind people served customers.
It’s a great hotel! The breakfast was very good, you can tell the owner pays a lot of attention on its quality. The hotel staff is nice and friendly. Although the hotel is a bit old, but it’s really good. I would recommend my friends to stay here.
Quirky hotel, close to ski lifts
Not a great selection of hire gear but there is a good rental shop close to the main gondolas.
Strangely there is a 7am wake up call for the entire building.
Our room didn’t have showers but it was entertaining having to use the Onsen
