Shonai Hotel Suiden Terrasse in Tsuruoka

My second time staying in suiden terrase this year, still amazed with every detail on this hotel! Will come back again soon

Very good value for money. A modern Japanese hotel with large rooms. Views from the hotel are amazing and the Onsen was hot and clean. Staff very professional and friendly.

This hotel is about 1.5 km from Tsuruoka JR Station. The nearest bus stop is 'Science Park.' There's a direct bus from Yamagata Airport, but other bus connections are unavailable, making transportation a bit inconvenient; it's more suitable for those traveling by car.

The hotel itself is newly renovated, surrounded by rice paddies, offering a beautiful and clean environment. Breakfast is a Japanese-style buffet featuring locally sourced ingredients. Dinner requires a reservation, as dining options nearby are limited to a convenience store. There are three dinner set menus, which I found a bit pricey, but the food was delicious, especially the bread and desserts.

Service was, as always, attentive, and the hot spring facilities were excellent. The only downside is its relative distance from famous Tsuruoka attractions like the Dewa Sanzan mountains and Kamo Aquarium. It's also a bit far from the S-mall bus terminal and the JR station.

I went there during a big cold wave so it was too cold and I turned on the heating. It was very beautiful and the sauna was nice! I'm glad there are amenities and running water. It was a bit disappointing that the restaurant didn't have many individual dishes but I was able to relax and drink and eat slowly. I want to go there again when the seasons change.

living room is beautiful, buffet breakfast is good but little bit busy. spa is always crowded and maybe will have some bugs in summer time

Love this hotel. It's beautifully designed by 坂茂 and it lives up to his fame. The buildings look like they are floating over the rice fields. Both dinners and breakfast were excellent. Most ingredients are sourced locally and they are delicious. But what I love the most is the open baths. Both are small, but they're carefully designed with a tranquil, soothing view. I'd love to come back again just for the hotel.

Such a WONDERFUL hotel I never stayed before. This is a new, eco, comfortable & beautiful place that I don’t want to leave. It is very suitable for any tourists especially for family, I will highly recommended & must visit again next time.

Room is very big and there is an in room private onsen. Location is a bit far off, need to go to sister ryokan for outdoor onsen.

I would go back to Tsuruoka just for this hotel!
Especially loved the modern, clean onsen with views of the mountain.
Rooms were thoughtfully designed and the breakfast on the terrace had stunning stunning views.
