I had an exceptional stay at Hilton Kota Kinabalu. From the moment I arrived, the service was warm, professional, and attentive. The staff were incredibly welcoming and always ready to assist with a genuine smile, which made the entire experience even more pleasant.

The VIP room was absolutely impressive — spacious, elegant, and beautifully maintained. The room was quiet and comfortable, with thoughtful amenities that made my stay truly relaxing. The bed was extremely comfortable, and everything was perfectly prepared to ensure a luxurious experience.

The VIP Lounge access was definitely one of the highlights of my stay. The lounge offers a calm and sophisticated atmosphere, creating a perfect space to unwind in peace and privacy. The cocktail session was especially enjoyable, with a delightful selection of drinks and light bites. It was a wonderful experience to sit back, relax, and enjoy the quiet ambiance without any disturbance. The overall lounge experience felt exclusive, refined, and truly memorable.

Overall, Hilton Kota Kinabalu exceeded my expectations in every way. The outstanding service, premium facilities, and excellent lounge experience make it a hotel I would gladly return to and highly recommend to others.

For culinary enthusiasts, the Ramadan iftar experience at Hilton Kota Kinabalu stands out as a compelling destination that should not be missed. It offers not merely a meal, but a carefully curated gastronomic journey that celebrates both Sabah’s rich culinary heritage and Malaysia’s beloved traditional favourites. For families and food lovers alike, it becomes a natural choice for breaking fast during the holy month.

One of the most captivating highlights of the spread is the succulent kambing golek, slow-roasted to perfection with tender, flavourful meat that draws long queues of eager diners. Equally impressive is the Sabah-style satay, which delivers a distinctive regional character through its aromatic marinades and expertly grilled texture. Seafood lovers will also find themselves well rewarded, as the buffet showcases an abundance of fresh seafood dishes prepared with remarkable attention to flavour and presentation.

The true strength of the offering lies in its thoughtful fusion of authentic Sabahan cuisine with classic Malaysian Ramadan staples. This balanced culinary composition not only honours local traditions but also reflects the broader diversity of Malaysia’s gastronomic culture. Each dish contributes to a coherent dining narrative that feels both indulgent and culturally grounded.

Equally commendable is the sahur offering. Despite being hosted within a prestigious hotel brand with more than a 100 years of global hospitality legacy, the sahur meals remain surprisingly accessible and reasonably priced. This combination of culinary quality, cultural authenticity, and value enhances the overall Ramadan experience.

In essence, the iftar and sahur itinerary at Hilton represent more than a buffet; they embody a refined celebration of Ramadan hospitality, where tradition, flavour, and generosity converge to create a memorable dining experience for families and devoted food lovers.

Dear Ms. Joana Gabah

First and foremost, on behalf of my family, I want to extend our deepest gratitude for the wonderful journey we embarked on in Kota Kinabalu, which began with your exceptional kindness. Your warm welcome set the tone for cherished memories that we will treasure for years to come.

As a Hilton Gold member, we have enjoyed many privileges, but none compare to the genuine warmth of your smile and the personalized care you provided. It truly surpassed any benefit we could have anticipated, making our stay not just comfortable, but truly special.

We firmly believe that Hilton’s inspiring motto—‘To fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality’—is brought to life through dedicated professionals like you, Joana.

It is our sincere hope to encounter another ‘Joana’ at Hilton properties around the world, continuing this legacy of excellence.

At the same time, Mr. Herry Sahry, thanks for your kind advice for touring programs and authentic restaurant. Your kindness was also very appreciated.

Thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts.

Everything else was acceptable, but what was truly disgusting was the questionable hygiene at breakfast. There was a tissue in the food, which ruined my appetite for the entire day. If I wasn't rushing to catch a flight, I would have definitely complained to the manager. This definitely deserves a bad review! See pictures below ↓

After a terrible night's sleep, I couldn't even stomach breakfast the next day. I dozed off again in a daze that morning and finally headed out for food around 11 AM. When I got back, I asked the front desk to change rooms. A new, handsome guy was at the desk and asked why we wanted to switch. We told him it was too noisy, specifically from traffic. He said okay, but we'd have to wait until after 3 PM when a room was cleaned. What could we do but wait? Eventually, we were moved to the 7th floor. It overlooked a parking lot, and the room was a bit smaller with a slight musty smell, but it was wonderfully quiet. After being so tormented, we fell asleep around 8 or 9 PM, but it felt like we'd wasted an entire day. The rooftop pool was quite chill, especially in the evening when the temperature was pleasant and there was a gentle breeze.

Our first night, the flight from Singapore to Kota Kinabalu was delayed, so we didn't get to the hotel until after 10 PM. We checked in first, then took the kids out for dinner. By the time we got back to the hotel, it was almost midnight. That's when we realized how incredibly noisy our room was. It was on a low floor, the windows were thin, and there was absolutely no soundproofing. All night long, there were these loud 'boom! boom! boom!' sounds from motorbikes revving their engines, non-stop! But I was so exhausted, I couldn't bring myself to go downstairs and ask for a room change. I eventually drifted off to sleep, but my husband didn't get a wink of sleep all night, which totally ruined our plans for the next day. Why was the woman at the front desk who checked us in so awful? There's no way this noisy room hasn't been complained about before. To assign us a room like this when we arrived so late – she must have a heart of stone! I want to complain about her!

Facilities: Pretty good for a city hotel, very convenient for dining and shopping.
Hygiene: The hygiene was excellent on the first day, but I was surprised that over a three-day stay, the room was only cleaned once. I had to request water myself, but they provided it promptly when asked. Also, the in-room safe had no battery and couldn't be used. I informed the hotel on the first day, but it was still broken when I left, so I had to carry my passport with me every day.
Environment: The environment is quite nice, with its own swimming pool and clean towels available.
Service: The staff were very friendly, always smiling and greeting guests. However, despite informing the front desk about the safe issue and being told it was 'OK,' no one ever came to fix it.

The location is pretty good. It's right behind the Welcome Seafood Restaurant and Borenos Fried Chicken, and about a kilometer from Gaya Street, so it's walkable. Just a heads-up, there's an elementary school next door, so I recommend avoiding taking a taxi around lunchtime as traffic can get really bad when school lets out.

The breakfast bread selection was excellent, and the variety was decent. One thing to note: when checking in, the staff might be unsure if your tourism tax has already been paid. It's a good idea to screenshot the part of your booking confirmation that shows you've already paid the tourism tax beforehand.

The breakfast selection was extensive, and the restaurant staff were all very welcoming. The front desk service was also excellent; they really tried their best to accommodate my request for a quiet room. The hotel's back exit leads directly to a seafood restaurant, and there's a convenience store not far away, both of which are very handy. Overall, it's a great hotel and definitely worth recommending!

A great hotel and friendly staff. Syaniezal in particular was very friendly and helpful to us. We stayed for 4 nights. The breakfast selection was great, nice ambiance and relax. Hotel location is quite near to everywhere. Gaya street is just about 8 minutes walking distance. Borenos fried chicen is exactly at the back of the hotel and welcome seafood as well!
