Overall, it was a pretty good experience. The hotel is very spacious, perfect for family trips, and the kids had a blast. It offers great value for money.
The views are absolutely amazing, the sun was perfect, and the pool was fantastic. Honestly, everything was just excellent.
The room is spacious and the environment is pleasant. It's a short taxi ride to the city center, and the breakfast is good too. There's a beach where you can snorkel, and the surrounding coastal reefs are full of sea urchins and schools of fish.
Horizon view is truly amazing! However, the room cleanliness could be improved.
The hotel is really nice. The sea-view room was excellent; falling asleep to the sound of the waves at night was wonderful. The service is great, and breakfast is good too. I highly recommend the freshly baked waffles with honey. You should definitely set aside more time to enjoy the hotel facilities.
Very close to the airport, a taxi ride costs about 9 MYR. You can see planes flying by every day. The beach and pool are beautiful, and if the sunset is nice, you can even go paddleboarding right at the hotel.

The hotel environment is really nice, especially the Wi-Fi, which is a huge plus! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 The breakfast spread is fantastic and caters to all tastes. I originally booked this hotel to watch the sunset, but unfortunately, the weather wasn't cooperative for two days in a row, so I missed out on seeing the most beautiful sunset. A little disappointing.
Came to the beach with the little one, and Shangri-La was our top choice! The weather was perfect, and the scenery was absolutely beautiful. Even though the hotel is a bit older, it didn't dampen our holiday spirits one bit! ❤️
I guess a Ferrari, even an old one, is still a Ferrari! The facilities might be a bit dated, but the location and views are definitely worth it! You can take amazing photos everywhere, and there are plenty of pools to enjoy. Plus, there are lots of staff on hand. My only minor complaint is that the walk to the lobby is a bit long. Breakfast gets crowded, but it's still well-organized with a good variety...
We had an absolutely wonderful honeymoon stay at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth and excellent hospitality that made our honeymoon feel truly special.
The room was spacious, beautifully maintained, and offered a stunning sea view perfect for a romantic and relaxing getaway. The ambiance throughout the resort was calm and luxurious...
For families with kids in Kota Kinabalu, I highly recommend Shangri-La. You can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets right from the hotel (non-guests aren't allowed in). It's less than a 20-minute drive from the airport. While the facilities are a bit dated, the service is truly five-star. The sea-view rooms are spacious and come with a ready-made sofa bed. The kids' club is suitable for children under...
The room was quite old, but luckily I had read other reviews before checking in, so I was prepared. We were notified in advance that the hotel rooms were under renovation, but strangely, there was hammering every night. It wouldn't stop until we called customer service (dial 3 on the phone) to complain. The latest it went on was until 12 AM, which was unbearable. Yet, the next day, it was the same...

The resort is at an excellent location with good pool facilities. The pizza at the alfresco restaurant is great. However the resort itself is fairly dated and old and I don’t find the staff to be very friendly
Good location and good view, but took too long for checking in. Hotel facilities are a little bit old, rest are quite ok. If you want to see sunset, it is high recommended , this resort has perfect location to see the sunset view.
The biggest issue is that for a beachfront resort, its beach is practically nonexistent – though it doesn't really hinder the fun! I booked a sea-view room for three nights, expecting to step right out to the ocean. However, Magellan (hotel) seems to have a dock, so the 'beach' is all rocks. There's only about a 10-meter wide 'sandy' area, suitable for snorkeling. The underwater rocky reefs here make...
The hotel room felt a bit old and small, and the bed was narrow. However, the shower pressure was great, and there was unlimited complimentary drinking water. The staff were very enthusiastic, and the public facilities were decent. Breakfast was average, with a Korean focus. The sunset bar had a lovely ambiance, and the hotel's small private beach was excellent for spotting fish. The location between...
The pool is great, the view is amazing, but breakfast is just average. It's really convenient to take a boat from their private pier.
Thank you for providing an all-in-one environment for busy professionals like me. A place where I can work, meeting old friends, and at the same time allow my 3 boys to enjoy themselves safely. The availability of both a swimming pool and a small beach, with lifeguards on duty, gave me peace of mind throughout the day. the room was also clean and convinient for us also to enjoy beautiful morning sunrise...

The room was excellent, very spacious, comfortable, clean, and hygienic. The service was fantastic, and the hotel environment was great – it's a large property, perfect for families with kids.
An absolutely amazing experience, the best five-star hotel I've ever stayed in. Shangri-La truly lives up to its reputation! Although it's a bit far from the airport, they offer shuttle services. Every staff member was incredibly friendly, and the hotel breakfast was delicious – especially the steak, so fragrant!
It was actually hilarious when a large lizard got into our bathtub during check-in....
Really enjoyed my stay. The beach is clean and peaceful, staff are very helpful, and the resort feels very relaxing. Great for a short escape.
Large private beach, rainforest surroundings, and scenic views. Great for relaxation, honeymoon, or family getaway.
Whatever said about our stay is little. I am in awe of the hospitality and warmth of the staff. They did everything possible to make our stay comfortable. Suddenly I am a big fan of Shangri-la resorts. If not KK, will surely book shangrila for future stays
Resort was huge, we had to walk quite a bit to get to our room. Services was good. Staff was trying best to help when we needed. First day we arrived there were lots of guests, and pool water was so murky. Luckily after the big group left, pool water turned to normal. Kids area was a bit small and old, and was a bit far away to get to. We had half board package - buffet dinners were pretty nice. Different...

I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely consider staying here again.
The hotel location is great. There are lots of food court and shops nearby. The hotel facing seaview.
Best location... Nearest waterfront seafood food court... Nearest the mall to shopping
Definitely value for money. Good location with walking distance to Imago shopping mall, Filipino market and famous restaurants nearby. Nice sea view from the room. Cleanliness of the room also above expectation. Breakfast was average but acceptable.
The room was spacious and comfortable. The location is just in front of the waterfront. The hotel service was good. The breakfast is okay. Enjoying my stay here.

Strategically located at gaya street, comfortable bedding, breakfast reasonable nice
The twin room was quite spacious, and the bathroom was large with both a bathtub and a shower area. The breakfast at the ground-floor restaurant offered fresh fruits, juices, teh tarik, and a wide variety of freshly made breads, pastries, and hot dishes. The second-floor pool overlooks the sea. There were many international guests staying there. Booking a month in advance offered great value for money
Great location! Many options to eat nearby. Very close to Jesselton Port (5 min by car). Beautiful view. Polite and attentive staf.
very nice experience to stay this hotel for 2 nights, breakfast is very good, especially Nasi Lemak, very very tasty.
Excellent view, king bed room with a sea view. Absolutely amazing
This hotel has been open for over 20 years, so the facilities are a bit old and the soundproofing isn't great. However, the location is absolutely fantastic – you can walk to all sorts of dining, drinking, and entertainment options. The sunset from the ocean view rooms is also beautiful. I had a wonderful experience during our stay. Special thanks to Mohd Fazali for the excellent service at the check-in counter. He was very friendly, understanding, and attentive to our needs as a family.

Great staff, unbeatable price... and I survived the night!
I booked this hotel last minute for an ad-hoc trip purely because the price was unbeatable. It was only after confirming that I read the famous ghost stories online—too late to cancel! 😅
I arrived at 11 PM and, feeling a bit paranoid, asked the receptionist for a room near the elevator (to avoid those long, scary hallways). The staff was...
Stayed for 2 nights for business purposes
Booled for 2 days breakfast but eventually too tired to woke up very next morning so i skipped it
Anyways price was on the average to high side, internet wifi is ok
The downside is the spillage of water after u taking a shower, up to the toilet door, surprisingly water pressure was superb
5-10min to Imago Mall walking distance

Very comfortable, perfect for a vacation. It's quiet with a great natural environment. We enjoyed kayaking and cycling. It was good, but the rooms are hard to book.
The ecological environment is really great. It's a nice place for families with kids to stay for a night. We were in room 8448, and from the balcony, we occasionally saw a few lizards swimming in the stream.
Location of the resort was fairly close to KK. The room was nice and view was awesome. Had a small hiccup whereby there was leakage from the air conditioning system which soaked through the cupboard and all our belongings became wet. Room service to clean the room was slow too. They sent an engineer to fix the problem and offered to dry our bags. Otherwise, it was a comfortable and memorable stay.
The hotel is located in the suburbs and is an older property with somewhat dated facilities. Make sure to request a newly renovated room on the 5th floor. The hotel environment is beautiful and home to many small wild animals. However, it also means there are a lot of insects, which could be a nightmare for those who are afraid of them. I left my power bank plugged in and forgot to take it, but when...
We brought our kids, and everyone loved the activities here. We tried surfing and kayaking. The staff were very friendly, greeting and smiling at our baby whenever they saw her. There was also a live singer at the lobby bar at 7:30 PM, which our baby really enjoyed. The hotel's overall outdoor environment was great; we saw many small animals, and it was very walkable. However, the hotel rooms were...
Let's start with the positives: The hotel is quite large, sharing its grounds with a golf club. It offers a comprehensive range of facilities, with the main highlight being its incredibly long coastline. The gardens are full of lizards, giving it a very natural and untouched feel. The service attitude is excellent, and the hotel's pool is also quite nice.
Now for the drawbacks: The hotel's location...

This is my second stay at the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, and the experience was excellent once again! 👍
📍 The location is absolutely perfect, right in the city center. It's a 5-10 minute walk to shopping malls and duty-free shops, and even closer to Durian Street and Gaya Street, making it super convenient for dining, shopping, and exploring. In the evenings, it's lovely to stroll to the night market...
We booked a twin room, but the beds are really more suitable for one person. With our child, it felt a bit small for the three of us. The hotel's location is excellent, making it easy to get anywhere, and it's close to the sea with a great spot to watch the sunset. As for service, there's a Chinese translator sometimes, and you can usually get by with basic English.
The location is fantastic, just across the road from the beach. The facilities aren't as new as some of the hotels downtown, which is to be expected, but the cleanliness and service were absolutely fine. There are shops and restaurants in the nearby streets, and a durian street is just a few minutes' walk away, haha! The large window in the sea-view room was a big plus. Right downstairs is the pier...
The lady staff was very enthusiastic and provided thoughtful service; communication was a breeze. Taxis were readily available, and the buffet's flatbreads were incredibly delicious. It's also conveniently located within walking distance to Gaya Street, the jetty, and the beach.
The location is superb, very close to the jetty, Gaya Street, and the Filipino Night Market, all within a 10-minute walk. The room is large and clean, and the service is decent. Highly recommended for a trip to Kota Kinabalu.
This hotel is great! The staff and front desk were all exceptionally good and welcoming. The room was also very spacious and had no strange odors. It's located right on Gaya Street, which makes dining incredibly convenient. The jetty is also very close by. Definitely recommend!

Everything else was acceptable, but what was truly disgusting was the questionable hygiene at breakfast. There was a tissue in the food, which ruined my appetite for the entire day. If I wasn't rushing to catch a flight, I would have definitely complained to the manager. This definitely deserves a bad review! See pictures below ↓
After a terrible night's sleep, I couldn't even stomach breakfast the next day. I dozed off again in a daze that morning and finally headed out for food around 11 AM.
