Europa Hotel 3* in Chisinau

This review is based on two nights spent at the hotel in late October 2024.

The Europa is not a good hotel. It is not in a good location. The hotel itself is worn out and not well maintained. The breakfast is okay, but not as good as other hotels in Moldova. The staff is friendly and professional, but they cannot make up for the hotel's disadvantages.

The first night I spent at the Europa, my room was freezing even though I had the split unit heater on full blast. I woke up in the night and had to put on warm clothes. (Several people in my group mentioned the same problem in their rooms.) I brought this to the attention of the hotel staff but, apparently, too late for them to do anything. I suspected that the split unit filter must be dirty, so I got up on a chair and took the filters out and cleaned them in the shower. The heat worked fine after that. I did not charge the hotel for my maintenance work. See pictures.

Even if I had not had this problem, I would not have rated the Europa any higher. The construction and layout are such that it's as if two or three buildings collided and someone haphazardly fastened them together. For example, you have to go up one step from the floor to enter the elevator on the A side of the hotel. I can think of no reason for a step at the entrance to an elevator. That elevator is a glass elevator that has a view of a wall for two floors as you ascend, then a partial view of the street in front of the hotel. Design mysteries like this abound. As the hotel is named Europa, perhaps they are a metaphor for the difficulties faced by the EU in building a harmonious whole from disparate parts.

There are plenty of good hotels in Chisinau. At least at the time of this writing, the Europa is not one of them.

The horror! It's old! Irresponsible staff, cheated with a park near the hotel, in traces of which the tow truck took the car, without security cameras, do not want problems - choose another hotel!!!! Meals as in a canteen for the homeless!

The room was dark and in 80s socialist style. Carpet heavy used and smudges at some places. Not cozy.
Bed was comfortable.
Bathroom with a smell.
Wi-Fi does not work, when you sit on the bed, which is around the corner.
No lift to the 6th floor: For entering the 6th floor you have to take the lift to the 5th and then via the stairs. I had to use my torch to find the way.

Worst Hotel to stay Don't even deserve one star Staff uncooperative Don't even think of staying for 8 hrs in these lousy hotel. Untidy stinky rooms ...sick..
