Karawan Riad in Fes

There are quirks to staying in a riad. But they are worth enduring to experience the magic behind the big brown door of Karawan Riad. Tucked away on a back residential alley in the Medina its vibe is casual elegance. Its 7 unique suites are only accessible by stairs but the climber is rewarded with artistic visual treats in each and luxurious showers and bedding. There are common areas both on the first floor and roof (with great views of the Medina) where one can unwind after exploring the city’s But what really sets Karajan Riad apart is the personal attention it offers. The staff to guest ratio is insanely high and everyone who worked for the hotel was super intent on making our stay special. And then there is the food! Our days began with amazing breakfasts that were included with the room rate. Twice we chose to also have dinner and were served the best two meals that we had during all of our time in Morocco.

Our experience at Karawan was outstanding. The property is beautiful, quiet and convenient. The service was memorable- Omar,Neza and the entire staff provided us with everything we asked for and more. The food was very good. I highly recommend this riad.

Terrific location and excellent relaxing respite from the wonderful mayhem of the Fed Medina, which is very close by. NB you must book dinner in advance. Would definitely return. Loved it.

Very Special and unique Boutique Hotel in the Medina worth the short walk from the street. Modernized, but traditional in design rooms with all the necessary amenities. Wonderful spa and “Hammam” (look it up)! Breakfast included and very generous in what they provide. The General Manager, Nezha, is exceptional, with perfect English and a wealth of knowledge about where to go and where to dine in Fez! You will love her and the hotel!

Everything is very decorative, as if you were living in a museum. But it's not very practical; some of the room's amenities haven't been thought through. The bathroom area isn't very clean; there's some mold.
Overall, the accommodations aren't for everyone; they're purely for aesthetics.

I visited for my 50th birthday and this venue definitely didn't disappoint. Bushra and the front desk team did an excellent job in being efficient, friendly and welcoming as you would expect from this class of establishment. The Riad, a former harem, is beautifully appointed and the rooftop terrace is stunning. The hotel put rose petals with 50 written on my bed which was a lovely touch, particularly given that our previous riad Algila had done nothing! The breakfast is truly exquisite and our rooftop suite was beautifully appointed - we felt like staying there for the whole trip! It is a real oasis from the madness of Fez. We also had a very romantic dinner, although I feel portion sizes could be slightly bigger. The hammam was also a lovely experience. Thanks very much to all the staff for a wonderful stay.

A very distinctive traditional Moroccan hotel, not many people staying, very quiet. The hotel is in the old town and it is difficult to find a parking space. If you drive here, it is best to find a local to contact the hotel and then take you to the parking lot. The doorway is very small, and you can't imagine it is a hotel from the outside, but the inside of the hotel is a different world. The room is large, but very dim. Worth a few days stay!
