Occidental Hotel in Bilbao

The room is large and clean. Location is fine, close to a metro station. If you arrive with luggage, I’d recommend taking metro instead of bus.

Very clean hotel , good location with metro nearby for city centre. Great choice at breakfast. Be mindful you do have to pay for the gym/sauna

The only disappointment was the low water pressure and the inability to dispense water for bathing which it might be specific to the room.

Great value for money, clean and friendly staff. Comfy beds and nice shower.

There were 2 things which were not in line with my expectations:
The window in the room was blocked since the handle was removed, so we could not open the window for fresh air or emergency
The airconditioning was very poor. Even when leaving it on, it took hours before the temperature came down from 26 degrees to 23 degrees. This is too high for sleeping.

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The surrounding is amazing.

This is a lovely hotel and very central , the staff are supper amazing and we even got a room upgrade when we complained that we didn’t have a room with a view

I recently stayed at the Occidental Bilbao Hotel for a 3-night vacation. Overall, my experience was a mix of positives and areas for improvement.

Firstly, the hotel’s location is excellent. It’s easily accessible by car from the motorway and conveniently within walking distance to downtown and many local sights. This made exploring Bilbao quite effortless and enjoyable.

Upon arrival, I found the hotel to be clean, comfortable, and functional. The room amenities were all good, providing a pleasant stay. However, I was disappointed to discover a forgotten sock between the curtain and the couch, which suggests housekeeping might need a bit more attention to detail. One of the light switches also has a contact issue and crackles.

The continental breakfast was another area that could use improvement. Despite Spain’s reputation as the greenhouse of the EU, the selection of vegetables was very limited. Additionally, there were no milk alternatives available, which was surprising and a bit inconvenient.

One thing to note is that the hotel is on the pricey side. While this isn’t inherently a problem, it was frustrating to find that they charged extra for parking and gym access. Given the hotel’s cost, it felt like these amenities should have been included.
